Is it okay to add a section about that? In Supernatural Episode 8.23 'Sacrifice' the King of Hell rants about 'Girls', claiming that Sam would be his Marnie and that Hannah deserves to be loved. Is it worth mentioning? 89.14.215.13 (talk) 23:33, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Transphobia

Under the Feminism section it mentions that the show has been criticized for transphobia. By whom and on what grounds? It seems a bit farfetched. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.90.50.211 (talk) 09:58, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

I've found an article talking about a transphobic joke in the show. It's a crude brief joke, told offhandedly enough that it doesn't seem to be all that self-aware.

I’m not sure I can even remember there being a trans character or a reference to transgenderism over the course of the show. I think I may take it out if I don’t think of anything. PalmyranRealness (talk) 00:57, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

Broadcast section

This is the first time I've noticed name-dropping in a Wikipedia article. If there is any other purpose to the final paragraph, I'm missing it. I seriously think that the following can be deleted without any loss whatsoever:

Models Karlie Kloss, Karen Elson, and Hilary Rhoda; designers Nicole Miller, Cynthia Rowley, and Zac Posen; and editors Anna Wintour, Joanna Coles, and Amy Astley were all in attendance.[72] The after party was at the Allen Room and "hosted by HBO and the Cinema Society".[72]

It's become a bit of a prototype for the new kind of tv series that focuses much less on actual storylines than on "fly on the wall observation" of a certain sociocultural environment. The narrative arc becomes vague and endlessly extendable. Mad Men had something of that too. In two pieces recently in Guardian, two different writers have pointed out this aspect of Girls, and how it made it difficult to give the show a "proper ending" because the fans are so poss4essive of the characters that they simply don't want to have to lose their sompany. Zoe Williams in the second one: "The different rhythms of reality TV have also seeped into drama so that, as Sweden’s leading TV critic Kjell Haglund says: “The art of fiction TV is moving from telling traditional stories towards depicting social environments.” It’s something you can also see in Girls, not just the show itself but in the ferocious sense of ownership among its fans". Sex and the City had the same devoted, even tribal bond between its fans, the lead characters and a glamourized Manhattan environment. After seeing style note suggestion expansion of the lead section's summary, I added a paragraph about the controversy and accolades, as well as including the information that Judd Apatow is an EP. I think it would be good to include something mentioning that the opportunity to create the show arose out of the success of Tiny Furniture as well as a little more information about the plot/thematic content beyond the current "...following the lives of four young women living in New York City". 66.165.13.239 (talk) 05:01, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
