Renaming

edit

I am going to rename this article to George Harrison (Irish republican) in line with the naming of other IRA Volunteers and in order to stop confusion with other types of republicans. Would anyone object? Vintagekits 18:29, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I will give it another week before I change it. Vintagekits 16:49, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The CORRECT references!

edit

For those who provide links to any IRA groups: It is IMPERATIVE to know whether it is to the OLD IRA or any of the more recent groups that you are referring to. It is misleading, and offensive to most Irish to confuse the two. 86.43.71.254 (talk) 13:51, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Who exactly are the "old" IRA? Who came up with that term? Who came up with the term "Provisional" IRA? Are they just misleading? "offensive to most Irish" and you assume you are speaking on their behalf? --Domer48 (talk) 15:29, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

While it's not disputed Harrison was a member of the pre-split IRA and supplied arms to the Provisional IRA, he doesn't appear to have been a member of the latter. Sean Boyne's Gunrunners: The Covert Arms Trail to Ireland page 197 states Unlike Harrison, who was essentially a sympathiser doing his bit 'for the cause', the authorities in the US were to conclude that Megahey was a senior member of the IRA, in charge of arms procurement operations in North America, and under the control of the IRA back in Belfast. I have amended Category:Provisional Irish Republican Army members to the parent category Category:Provisional Irish Republican Army. FDW777 (talk) 14:48, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
