Galway United

I decided to keep one article here instead of starting a new one for Galway United - following Cork City W.F.C. who started out independent then merged/re-branded into the local men's club. Plus the article already contains lots of info about the forerunner Galway select team who won the FAI Women's Cup. Although I don't mind too much if anyone feels strongly there should be two articles instead – I can see an argument that it's actually a new club rather than a direct continuation. According to their own website [2], they're now "Galway Women's F.C." That seems like the way to go with a page move. Or perhaps the current Galway W.F.C. is correct and the meaning of the acronym just needs to be straightened out in the article's text. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:35, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

You'll notice the website hasn't been updated since 2021. The independent Galway Women's F.C./W.F.C. club has now withdrawn from the league, dropping none-too-subtle hints about "other individuals or entities" coming in and taking over. And, after some whining about the costs involved, Galway United (the local men's team) confirmed they'd be running the women's team from next season. • Oppose. There are several possible ways forward but this RM is none of them. The proposed name makes it appear that there are now two clubs both called Galway United F.C. and so we have added the disambiguator (women) to distinguish them, with the men's club being primary topic. But this doesn't seem to be the case. There is only one. It apparently now fields a women's team formerly called Galway W.F.C. (or Galway WFC according to the current lead). The article on this club should have a section on its women's team of course. There is probably also be a case for keeping an article covering the historically separate women's club and its teams. • Support definite move per GiantSnowman. Per logo and other sources, they don't abbreviate the WFC, similar to AFC Bournemouth where the 2020 nomination had good support, so if the nom fails, Galway WFC would be my second best title. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 22:01, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
• Oppose per @EchidnaLives the team has played their final game so from my understanding Galway W.F.C. no longer exists. A new, separate team exists at Galway United F.C. that's taken over the mantle, but is not a direct continuation. Therefore I'm of the opinion that the article for Galway United F.C. should contain sections for the women and mens teams and this article remain under it's current title, updated to reflect the team is no more. • Oppose per EchidnaLives and Cashew.wheel. This looks like a new women's team is being created, and so a new article should be created/new section in the men's team article added.
