October 2017 edit

Hello, I have altered a sentence to remove some transphobic language from the "Gender Analysis" section of this article. The first paragraph doesn't make much sense and actually contradicts itself (not to mention is grammatically incorrect), so I think that should be removed also. Does everybody agree? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.245.138.58 (talk) 13:28, 13 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

The segment has been removed entirely because it was unsourced and poorly written. However, keep in mind that it's not up to you (or anyone) to project non-neutral political views based on what you think is offensive onto Wikipedia articles, as it contributes nothing to the article and Wikipedia is not a soapbox. sixtynine • speak up • 14:00, 13 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Writer above was not engaging in soapbox behaviour, but removing offensive comment. The entire section appears unacademic and soapbox to me. As one of several examples, the sentence in the article "a peculiar gender expression, despite a widespread sexual binarism" refers to the greater, umbrella category of trans*, rather than "transsexual", which is generally viewed as a sub-group of the above umbrella group. And also, it would appear that the differentiation in the article is between local transgender people and immigrants trangender groups, rather than transgender and non-transgender groups. Add to that that we should have a lot more than one (or even two) sensationalistic tabloid articles.
I vote that the entire section be removed and re-written in a more balanced, academic manner, with adequate sources, not a one-off tabloid article and a blog entry based on the same. ~~PPCG~~

Image removed edit

I've removed this image from the article because it does not depict a Neapolitan femminiello – it's a picture of Dina Alma de Paradeda, a trans woman from Brazil, and it was merely taken in Naples, according to the description. --CRYptex talk 20:22, 19 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Drag queens? edit

Since the article mentions that defining Femminielli as transgender is reductive, would a comparison to drag queens be more apt and accurate? Especially given the context of taking part in rituals and ceremonies, it does indicate to me that there's a sort of performative aspect to Femminielli that does resemble drag performances.
