Illness (2007) edit

The previously scheduled dates mentioned in the article have been postponed and or canceled, if her MySpace blog is to be believed. Is there any information about the nature of her illness? 70.107.144.119

Comments from Gillian Gaar: Errors in Danielle Dax entry edit

My friend Gillian Gaar (who wrote the book She's a Rebel: The History of Women in Rock & Roll, among other things) says there are quite a few errors in this article. I don't know enough about Dax to feel comfortable editing, and not all of this is thoroughly cited (do note, though, that the dates are, if a big vaguely), but I'd be mildly amazed if any of this is wrong: she knows her stuff.

What follows is paraphrased from Gillian. The passages in quotations are from the current article.

“Dax then left The Lemon Kittens and embarked on a solo career, recording and producing the albums Pop-Eyes (1982), Jesus Egg That Wept (1984), and Inky Bloaters (1987) on her own label, Awesome Records. In 1988 she signed with Sire Records, which released her double album Dark Adapted Eye, containing material from her previous recordings, such as the well-known song "Big Hollow Man", and included the new and un-released recordings "Cat-House", "White Knuckle Ride", "When I Was Young", "House Cat", "Whistling for His Love", and "Touch Piggy's Eyes".”

  • Dark Adapted Eye is not a double album. It is a single album with 12 tracks. My source — the actual vinyl album. The CD and cassette do have 19 songs however and on vinyl that would be a double album. Perhaps that explains the error (whoever wrote this having the CD and assuming the same tracks appeared on the vinyl version).

“new and un-released recordings "Cat-House", "White Knuckle Ride", "When I Was Young", "House Cat", "Whistling for His Love", and "Touch Piggy's Eyes".”

  • Most of these songs were already released in the UK and thus are not “new and unreleased.”
  • Cat House was first released in the UK as a single in April 1988.
  • When I Was Young was first released in the UK on the 12 inch single of Where The Flies Are in October 1986.
  • House Cat was first released in the UK on the 12 inch single of Cat House in April 1988.
  • Touch Piggy’s Eyes was first released in the UK on the 7 and 12 inch single of Cat House in April 1988.
  • It was the first appearance of these versions of White Knuckle Ride and Whistling For His Love though. These two songs were not released in the UK until April 1989. An earlier version of Whistling does appear on the 1987 Japanese EP The Chemical Wedding, however.

All the dates were taken from an article on Danielle in the UK mag Record Collector, November 1989, by Mark Paytress.
