After giving the matter some thought, I modified Chosenlink's edit changing my original statement that Prof. Markel and Prof. Adelson were involved in "divorce" proceedings. I agree a more accurate statement would have been for me to say they were involved in "post divorce" proceedings. But Chosenlink stated that Markel and his ex-wife were involved in a "custody battle" and cited to a CNN article. While the cited article does, indeed, refer to Adelson as Markel's ex-wife, it makes no mention of a "custody battle." "Custody" is rarely--although admittedly sometimes--an issue in Florida dissolution of marriage cases. Parents are most often given "joint custody" with the issue of "primary physical residence" being contested by the parties. In this case, there were several issues involved in addition to the question of the children's primary physical residence, and those additional issues are referred to in the Miami Herald article I cited. I did retain Chosenlink's correct reference to Adelson as being Markel's "ex-wife." As always, I invite Chosenlink and others to use this Talk Page to share their viewpoint as to the issue. Possible BLP violations?

edit

It's been suggested at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wendi Adelson that the content of this article is not fully in accordance with our BLP policy. That's not an area where I have any great expertise or experience, but it does seem to me that, for example, the content added with this edit is negative in tone, about living people, and based on speculation or suspicion rather than solid fact. Much of the content here was copied to Wendi Adelson and Charles Adelson, both of which are now at AfD. If there's agreement here that the recently-added content is inappropriate, a possible solution would be roll back to this version of the page, and then clean that up (remove the uncited content etc). Thoughts, anyone? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:56, 25 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Done – almost a week has passed, there's been no objection. The article now needs a good deal of cleaning up. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:52, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

should this article be converted to something like "the murder of Dan Markel" ?

edit

It seems like it might work better that way given the lack of biographical information and strong focus on his murder. The majority of the article is about the investigation and trial of his murderers and the after effects. The entirety of the article (~10% of it?) that focuses on Markel's biographical information could easily be converted into a subsection of a larger article about the circumstances of his murder. 2600:4040:254D:9700:AC74:2F71:791B:81BA (talk) 04:09, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Fair question; the trick is that his murder was newsworthy because of the prominence of his legal scholarship and his position. I think in an ideal world there would be more analysis of the substance and impact of his scholarship. Sha-Zeditor (talk) 20:56, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
