Did you know? If you fancy doing so, I always have plenty of GA nominees to review. Just look for the all-uppercase titles in the Television section. Reviews always appreciated.

Copy changes edit

Lead edit

  • Jackson began work on the album in August 2002 after finishing the All for You Tour, and continued until February 2004, Add a comma after "August 2002" to complete the appositive.
  • Damita Jo received mixed reviews from music critics, who praised its production, but were dismissive of its excessive sexual content and its overlong duration. Remove comma after "production" — it's one long appositive.
  • Conglomerates involved with the broadcast who received massive fines by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), including Viacom and CBS, and subsidiaries MTV and Infinity Broadcasting,
    • "from" the FCC, not "by"
    • Viacom still owned CBS at this point, so "Viacom and subsidiaries, CBS, MTV and Infinity Broadcasting" would be correct.

Background edit

  • It saw the singer working with new producers for the first time since Control (1986), while maintaining her partnership with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Remove comma (WP:CINS)

Writing and recording edit

  • The record saw Jackson liberated from recording exclusively with Jam and Lewis, which she had attempted upon recording with other producers on All for You, teaming up with several producers, among them Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Kanye West, Dallas Austin, Scott Storch, and duo Bag & Arnthor, consisting of Anders Bagge and Arnthor Birgisson. Try restructuring this sentence.
  • Sessions with West took place in October 2003, who described their work together as "unbelievable" Can October 2003 talk? Try Sessions with West took place in October 2003; he described their work together as "unbelievable".
  • Austin worked with Jackson in Atlanta from late 2003 until early 2004, before deciding which songs would make the final cut. Remove comma
  • He considered it "easily the most sexy thing she's done", and that it was "her Dirty Mind". Remove comma
  • He also described it as a "really sexy record, but not in a sensual way. It's bold, it's fun, it's really positive. Nobody's sad, nobody's mad. It's just really fun songs where she happens to be talking frankly about sex", he also said, before completing that "It's one of the best records she's made". The "completing that" is awkward here.
  • "I thought working with Janet would change my life and it definitely did. [...] She was one of those people that I really wanted to work with" Add a [.] inside the quotes. For some reason, the period is missing in the original quote.
  • Several collaborations were considered during the album's recording sessions, but never came into fruition. Jam discussed potentially writing a duet with Timberlake for the album in its initial stages, but never came to fruition. There's a WP:CINS error, but never came to fruition. Your sentence endings here are repetitive, but never came to fruition.

Composition edit

  • Speaking about the personae, Jackson said "She's another way to express and expose a deeper part of me". Add a comma after "said"
  • She detailed their personalities, revealing that Damita Jo was a lot harsher, and "quick to put you in your place", whereas Strawberry was the most sexual of them all and the wildest one. The comma after "harsher" needs to go
  • Following the incident at the Super Bowl halftime show, Jackson was urged to remove or tone down the suggestive lyrics of several songs, but resisted pressure to do so. Remove comma after "songs" (CINS)
  • Thematically, the singer describes her alter persona as being "Sexy, quiet / Shy but down for a good time", but also asserting Removesecond comma
  • "Spending time With You", intended capitalization error?
  • in brief interlude, "Magic Hour", which transitions you can either do in brief interlude "Magic Hour" which transitions or in a brief interlude, "Magic Hour", which transitions
  • as Jackson compliments her companion, and performs with authority over the track's minimal "bass thump" remove comma (CINS)
  • Thematically, the lyrics are about Jackson just wanting a "zipless fuck" with her lover, and also alludes to masturbation Lyrics / alludes is an agreement error. The comma after "lover" must go.

Packaging edit

  • Jackson had planned to use her middle name for an alternate project, but decided to use the concept at that time rather than waiting. Remove comma (CinS)
  • EMI Music Japan released Damita Jo on March 22, 2004, in Japan, with two bonus tracks: "I'm Here" and "Put Your Hands On". Maybe EMI Music Japan released Damita Jo in that country on March 22, 2004, with two bonus tracks: "I'm Here" and "Put Your Hands On". This would reduce the comma density.
  • editing five tracks due to its sexual content, and omitting two songs entirely – "Warmth" and "Moist". Remove comma after "content"

Promotion edit

  • I'd use "appeared on" instead of "appeared at". You use "at" a bit more than you should here.
  • Jackson made a brief return to her home country to perform at MSN Music's studios, and at the Wango Tango concert, before moving on to Japan, where she made an unannounced performance at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan, and was the recipient of the "Inspiration Award". Most of the commas here need to go. Jackson made a brief return to her home country to perform at MSN Music's studios and at the Wango Tango concert before moving on to Japan, where she made an unannounced performance at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan and was the recipient of the "Inspiration Award".
  • Following this, Jackson returned to Europe and was interviewed at Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, before performing at Festivalbar in Italy, and on Gala Xacobeo in Spain Drop the last two commas.
  • unlike most of television shows drop "of"
  • Following its release, the single quickly became the most added and played song on pop radio formats, and achieved Drop comma after "formats"
  • Hyphenate "lowest-peaking"
  • Remove comma after "chart" and "three in Canada"
  • but its release was never materialized drop the "was"
  • Singles, and remove comma
  • peaking at number 17 and nine I'd use "9" to be alike. Even MOS:NUMNOTES commands, "Avoid awkward juxtapositions."

Critical reception edit

  • Quoting a sentence fragment? Make sure to use MOS:LOGICAL quotes
  • Similarly, Ian Wade of BBC Music felt that " ... ", and concluded that One subject. No comma needed after the quote (CINS).
  • Sal Cinquemani of Slant Magazine said it featured "a slew of the gooey, structureless sex ballads that have become Janet's staple", and although Jackson recruited new producers, "she doesn't really create a new sound for herself here", and called the songs "Like You Don't Love Me" and "Moist", produced by Jam and Lewis, "two of the album's best". Split this long sentence after the second quote. Cinquemani called the songs...
  • content, although complimented "Just a Little While" and "I Want You" add a "he" after "although"

Accolades edit

  • Hyphenate year-end

Commercial performance edit

  • The album also reached number 32 on the UK Albums Chart, and was certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on April 2, 2004, denoting shipments in excess of 60,000 copies Remove comma (CINS)
  • It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association Singapore (RIAS) in June 2004, and also peaked Remove comma (CINS)

Blacklist edit

  • "taken to Supreme Court" for several years. maybe "taken to court for several years in proceedings that reached the Supreme Court"
  • In retaliation, the aforementioned conglomerates, which include Viacom and CBS, and subsidiaries including MTV, the halftime show's producer, and radio broadcasters Infinity Broadcasting and Clear Channel Communications This is an odd one because the nesting density is rather deep. In retaliation, the aforementioned conglomerates—Viacom (including CBS; MTV, the halftime show's producer; and radio station group Infinity Broadcasting) and Clear Channel Communications—
  • "most villified female artists of all time" "villified" is a typo in the original (it was originally a blog, so only NewsBank has it) that deserves a [sic], and Langston said "one of the most", not the most.
  • I'd do get to [got] in the quote to conform the tense in the quote to the rest of the passage.
  • "MTV's 'Spanking New' videos in heavy rotation include a gyrating, cleavage-baring Beyoncé [in 'Naughty Girl'] and a bleeped-out Eminem with his group D12 ['My Band']. Yet the sedate new video from Janet Jackson—a fixture on the cable channel for almost two decades and its first 'MTV Icon'—has been absent from its playlist. Meanwhile, Jackson's name had barely been mentioned on MTV—unusual for a superstar whose previous projects have typically gotten heavy promotion". this is a long quote that might merit presentation as a box quote with {{Quote box}} instead of in the mainline.

Sourcing and spot checks edit

  • 20: Guardian article. His forthcoming album features Kelis and Jarvis Cocker and collaborations with Janet Jackson and P Diddy are mooted.  Y
  • 24: The source says Diddy became irate when he found out that Winans, whom he manages, had produced a song and a publishing executive at record label EMI wanted to use it for an upcoming Janet Jackson album. Diddy has reportedly wanted to work on a Jackson project for a long time, and other than appearing on the remix of SON OF A GUN on her album ALL FOR YOU, he has yet to get the opportunity to actually produce for her.  Y
  • 26: However, what she's feeling at the middle time of the album is usually what the album ends up being.  Y
  • 47: Pitchfork piece is used four times...
    • On the go-go inflected stroll of “Spending Time With You,” Jackson sings of wanting to “Use all our energy/Under the moonlight making love.”
    • A terrific track like “R&B Junkie” doesn’t have very much to say—it’s a hazy salute to old school R&B ... (However inept it is at telling, though, certainly basing a song around a sample of Evelyn “Champagne” King’s glistening boogie classic “I’m in Love” is a way of showing the degree to which Jackson was an R&B junkie.
    • On the album’s first single, “Just a Little While,” which combines frenetic breaks, elements of ’80s new wave guitars, and keyboards almost certainly inspired by Prince’s “Dirty Mind,”
    • Review of 7.8
  • 52: this song was an ode to the addictive qualities of the dance floor and should have been a major smash hit
  • 56: She pulls us in, though, with the delicious Quiet Storm cuts: "Spending Time With You," "Warmth" and "Truly." Her vocals are feathery, layered and almost hypnotic.  Y
  • 75: Link to Top of the Pops appearance.  Y
  • 79: Recap of Tonight Show appearance.  Y
  • 101: Checks out to the blurb on the top left of the cover page.  Y
  • 109: UK OCC listing for Jackson, with Just a Little While peaking at 15 after 5 weeks.  Y
  • 116: The Going for Adds section does not include a release date.
  • 119: Offline source—skipping.
  • 125: Quote and characterization of the Globe and Mail review check out.  Y
  • 162: Yeah, that quote checks out.  Y
  • 163: But when I'm onstage, it's my alter ego, and it kind of does adjust my personality.  Y
  • 166: AllMusic track listing for clean version.  Y
  • 171: Canadian chart history with peak at 7.  Y
  • 182: Swedish chart history with peak at 43.  Y
  • 189: US R&B year-end chart with Damita Jo at 20.  Y

Earwig flags the various quotes.
