  • What I think should be changed:

2008–2009: "Final season and continued success" should be changed to "Ballon d'Or and Premier League 3-Peat" 2021-2022: "100 Premier League goals and and first season disappointments" should be changed to "All-time top scorer in football history"

  • Why it should be changed:

For 2008-2009, the original "continued success" is insufficient to show what achievements he has attained. For 2021-2022, Ronaldo's biggest achievement is becoming the all-time top scorer in football history. The original "100 Premier League goals" can be mentioned as well but this should be inferior to the aforementioned achievement. And the original "first season disappointments" is a subjective opinion. On an individual level, Ronaldo was third in the Premier League top scorers chart, and named in the PFA team of the year.

Taot7rc (talk) 15:09, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

Imo the disappointing man utd season should be mentioned, but idk about the wording. Maybe "team struggles" or something? FMSky (talk) 17:43, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

The disappointing team season is indeed a point to mention for this year. However, from a broad perspective on his career, one disappointing team season is not worth mentioning. Instead, the fact that he broke the record to become the top scorer in the history of football is more important and relevant. Thanks for your reply! Taot7rc (talk) 14:36, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
Done but @FMSky: has changed "and first season disappointments" to "team struggles". Reopen if you disagree. SWinxy (talk) 03:14, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

The game was played on Telly in the United States. I witnessed it along with 10 million other people. It’s The Premier League. Look it up! RayJ (talk) 21:18, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
In addition, it’s in the Wikipedia statistics table labeled “ Career statistics — Club”. The 2022-2023 season has 1 goal . That is the October 9th goal, the first he’s scored this year. If you don’t think it’s memorable, please google “Ronaldo 700” ! RayJ (talk) 21:25, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
The game was witnessed by millions of people. The statistic is in this very own page in the “Career Statistics” section. Take a look it says 700 club goals. Adding the reference to this one stat is way overblown. It’s already in your tables. Really? RayJ (talk) 12:02, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Club level

What is "club level"? Is it greater or lesser than "international level"? Or does it actually mean nothing? All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 09:07, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

It means goals scored for just club and not national teams --FMSky (talk) 18:49, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
So you're saying the phrase "700 club goals" would suffice, as you can't actually distinguish whether it's greater or lesser than international level? All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 08:29, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
In addition to my above point, which is more succinct and less bumbling - "700th career club goal" or "700th career goal at club level". All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 18:33, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello, hope all is well. I was wondering if I may please add a few lines to Cristiano Ronaldo's Wikipedia page, specifically for his goal celebration section, for a communications class assignment. The last entry talks about his Siii or Siuu celebration, and I wanted to add his most recent goal celebration that he did at the most recent Manchester United VS Everton game. Thank you for taking the time to read this message, and I hope to hear from you soon. " Ronaldo previewed a new celebration when he scored his 700th career goal in the 44th minute of the Everton versus Manchester United game that gave them the 2-1 lead and secured their victory. After scoring with his left foot, thanks to an assist by Casemiro, Ronaldo slowly jogs towards the right corner flag, stops, turns his back to the Everton fans to look infield, leans back, closes his eyes, and rests his hands on his chest while his finger is interlocking each other. It was later revealed on Manchester United's official website that Ronaldo's goal celebration was a " self-deprecating in-joke with his fellow team-mates, highlighting the strong bonds among the players in Erik ten Hag's squad." https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/cristiano-ronaldo-goal-celebration-explained-from-everton-1-man-utd-2

Not done. He's scored hundreds of goals, can't cover them in such detail. --Mvqr (talk) 12:35, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
Hello Mvqr, thank you for your reply, appreciate it and appreciate you. My article addition request was only going to cover his most recent goal, which was the one against Everton and the celebration he chose. I was hoping to add that to the "GOAL CELEBRATION" section on his Wikipedia page. Is that still not allowed? GEBO23 (talk) 16:21, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
There is no reason to cover every single celebration made by Ronaldo. What's already at the section as is is fine for now. But if you're still insistent on this addition, is there another reliable source for this one in particular? Jalen Folf (talk) 22:25, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Hello Jalen, hope all is well. Thank you for your reply, appreciate it and appreciate you. I have three other sources that talk about Ronaldo's most recent goal celebration. sportsillustrated.com, talksport.com, and the the-sun.com mention his goal celebration and explain that the celebration was a "self-deprecating in joke- with his fellow team-mates" which highlights "the strong bonds among the players" The the-sun.com article also explains that the closed eye element of his goal celebration, was referencing to how Ronaldo likes to take power naps throughout the day as part of his fitness regime. Below are the sources. Thank you again

Should "CR7" be included as a nickname in the opening sentence? FMSky (talk) 18:20, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

  • Support: Widely known under this name, almost as popular as his regular name --FMSky (talk) 18:21, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
  • No It looks like this has come up before[4] and I don't see a good reason to add to the lead sentence. Similar to nicknames for LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, it can be mentioned later in the summary. Nemov (talk) 19:32, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
No, for the exact same reasons as made in the previous discussion. All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 20:07, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
  • Support, widely used and marketed. I don't see the harm.--Ortizesp (talk) 20:43, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
  • Support, Huge nickname for his brand, widely known by most fans of football as CR7 much like Ronaldo Nazario has now become known as R9 to distinguish the two. RossButsy (talk) 23:32, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
Ronaldo was known as R9 a long time before Cristiano ever went by CR7. – PeeJay 10:08, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
Yeah no he wasn’t. RossButsy (talk) 10:30, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
Actually, yeah he was. Nike marketed boots with R9 on them in the late 90s! – PeeJay 13:45, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
    And here's the evidence: https://www.soccerbible.com/performance/football-boots/2020/05/remembering-r9s-world-cup-boots-1998-2006/PeeJay 13:47, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
  • No we don't do it for anyone else, and it's not encyclopedic content for the lead. Put it in the infobox and nowhere else. (This is exactly the same as I posted on the last RFC, which was procedurally rejected as an RFC) Joseph2302 (talk) 08:14, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
  • No We don't do nicknames for any BLPs unless they are known more by that name that their real one, which isn't the case here. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "CR7" in real life, it's an Internet contraction and a branding. Black Kite (talk) 10:18, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
Surely we can't discard something simply because it mostly appears on the Internet. This is Wikipedia, after all. PraiseVivec (talk) 11:32, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
I'm not saying it can't be mentioned, just that it (definitely) shouldn't be in the opening sentence. Black Kite (talk) 13:29, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
  • No. Sources that use this seem to be referencing his brand more than using it as his nickname. Barnards.tar.gz (talk) 20:17, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
  • No per WP:UNDUE. He is more commonly known by his full name than this nickname. It would be more appropriate to detail the nickname in either the section about the club he was playing for at the time he earned it, the player profile section or the personal life section.
  • Eh I don't think it belongs in the lead, but it is common enough that it deserves mention maybe in the infobox? Cessaune (talk) 02:33, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
  • No UNDUE for the lead and especially the lead sentence. But the nickname can be mentioned in the body of the article. Some1 (talk) 19:35, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

New Picture?

Will there be a new picture for the 2022 World Cup? I don't think this picture is a good one, it's a 3/4 Quarters view. ~ 71.9.141.71 (talk) 12:43, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

  • That depends on if someone takes one, and licences it under a free licence, and it's a better photo. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:22, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
I still think ultimately the precedent should be facing the camera, also perhaps from upper-torso on wards, or a photograph from the neck-up. I don't really see any Wikipedia photos of high profile individuals, in 3/4ths view, maybe a very slight angle, but not to the extent of this current Ronaldo photo.
I think something like this
It also doesn't look very natural, given that it looks like it was taken during the national anthem, where players are trying to be as physically erect with very little natural facial expression as possible. 71.9.141.71 (talk) 14:42, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Edit request for section "2021–2022: 100 Premier League goals and team struggles"

The information In the next Champions League fixtures, on 10 October, Ronaldo scored again a last minute winner, with second coming seconds before the full-time whistle, as United overturned a two-goal deficit in a 3–2 home victory against Atalanta is seriously misleading about the time of the match between Manchester United and Atalanta, it's 20 October 20, not 10 October. Very need someone to fix this! Hongkytran (talk) 13:39, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Cristiano Ronaldo officially signs for Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr

Crannofonix (talk) 17:58, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

Start year for Al-Nassr in infobox should be 2023 not 2022

Even though the contract was announced on 30 December 2022, the contract officially starts on 1 January 2023, as that is when the transfer window opens. Even though Ronaldo was a free agent, because he was not yet a free agent when the previous window closed, he has to wait until the next transfer window opens to be registered. For Saudi Arabia, this is 1 January 2023. See Free_agent#Association_football and the example regarding Sol Campbell joining Arsenal. Essentially, he has signed a pre-contract which begins in two days. RedPatch (talk) 02:04, 31 December 2022 (UTC)

GA review by Chipmunkdavis questions

@Chipmunkdavis@Koncorde I have some questions about the review, as I am interested in making this article reach the GA status. If there is any places you want me to fix (please be specific) I will be happy to.

A: Does the lead still need reworking, since it looks consistent with the Messi article's lead.

B: I have some questions about the notability of some text, and was wondering if I should remove them or not.

I see a lot of text about games, not really notable in their own right, but being included because he was named the man of the match.

"In Portugal's opening match of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup against Mexico on 17 June, Ronaldo set up Quaresma's opening goal in a 2–2 draw. Three days later, he scored in a 1–0 win over hosts Russia." seems like a lead up to the statement "On 24 June, he scored from a penalty in a 4–0 win over New Zealand, which saw Portugal top their group and advance to the semi-finals of the competition; with his 75th international goal, Ronaldo also equalled Sándor Kocsis as the second-highest European international goalscorer of all time, behind only Ferenc Puskás." but was once again included because he was named man of the match in all 3 games.

Let me know if I missed anything. I also am working on fixing the specific things that were mentioned in the peer review, like this setnece where I added the final score, and date of the match. "United reached the final against Chelsea in Moscow on 21 May, where, despite his opening goal being negated by an equaliser and his penalty kick being saved in the shoot-out, United emerged victorious 1–1, winning the penalties 6–5." The Greatest Player Of All Time

Cristiano Ronaldo is known as the greatest football player of all time and is many upcoming footballers idol some names you might know are Messi, Mbappe and Haaland who all see Ronaldo as their idol. Ronaldo has also won league trophies in several leagues while certain players stick with one club built around them Ronaldo is a player that likes to escape from his comfort zone in order to prove himself. In the section "legal issues", the following sentence seems to be factually incorrect, or at least deviates from the source that is given: "Within days, the two women withdrew their allegation and Scotland Yard later issued a statement declaring there was not enough evidence for a prosecution." However, the BBC article given as source states quite clearly: "One of the women later withdrew her allegations." [1]

That only one of the two accusers withdrew her allegations is also confirmed by this article: [2]

The other woman never withdrew her allegations. (If she did, a source would have to be given for that.) Certainly, the claim that both women withdrew their allegations "within days" contradicts the source given, and I couldn't verify it by an internet search either. This is quite significant, given that Ronaldo was later accused by Kathryn Mayorga, who also never withdrew her allegations that he raped her (she only agreed to a settlement at the time, and later wanted to reopen the case, which was denied).

Therefore, the statement needs to be corrected: Only one of the women withdrew her allegations (also "within days" should be changed to "later" according to the source, the BBC article). Fountaindyke (talk) 10:51, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United in November of 2022. Therefore, this achievement cannot be included in the article. NextEditor123 (talk) 20:02, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

This achievement absolutely CAN and SHOULD be include in Ronaldo's honors. It happens with everybody. Players who have participated in some matches or were even apart of the squad get medals and recognition for their previous contribution, even if they leave. Dubravka was also present in the squad and got a medal, even thought he left in the middle of the season.
Another example was Luis Díaz who left Porto to Liverpool, but got a "Portuguese champion" medal and recognition for his 1st half of the season. DesCartavel (talk) 20:31, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
Mind you, the "Luis Diaz case" is just an example (among thousands). It's just one I know by heart. Another one, for instance, is Luis Suarez who moved to Liverpool in January 2011 and still got the "Dutch champion" medal for 2010/11 with Ajax. Anyone who moves mid season is eligible for medals/titles for the competition they already played and contributed to. DesCartavel (talk) 20:38, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Except he did not play any matches for EFL Cup and was not even called up for the final. NextEditor123 (talk) 20:45, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

True, you're right, he did not play, but I think it still he counts as participant, just like others who may have been in the registered squad. The contribute being "squad building" and "dressing room/practice field influence" in the squad. I could be wrong, but I think those cases (3rd choice goalkeepers are often examples) are still counted. DesCartavel (talk) 21:20, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Good Evening

I was just wondering whether or not you plan to remove Ronaldo’s 6 goal tally in the recent Arab Club Champions Cup. That competition (as confirmed by the Sporting President) is a club friendly and therefore, any goals scored should not be counted towards the official tally as it is not recognised by FIFA. Similar to Pele’s tally where his goals were reduced for unofficial games, this should be the same for Cristiano Ronaldo. Here is the link to the video where the President states it is a friendly:

https://twitter.com/bt3/status/1690437880647237632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1690437880647237632%7Ctwgr%5E57db89aabe91bbf4c4d073a7c8e198593b27f022%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.redditmedia.com%2Fmediaembed%2F15pnt5b%2F%3Fresponsive%3Dtrueis_nightmode%3Dtrue

Is Arab Club Champions Cup a friendly tournament? can someone clarify? Eduardo2024 (talk) 12:23, 13 August 2023 (UTC)

Yes it would be a club friendly as confirmed by the president. 109.149.197.100 (talk) 19:54, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
both arab club champions cup and goals should be removed because it a friendly or pre season cup and no valid mean of qualification and above all it was not recognised by CONTINENTAL FOOTBALL BODY AND FIFA only recognised and organised by UAFA which is not official recognised 102.88.62.232 (talk) 05:47, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

Count the Toulon Tournament also

Ronaldo has 34 carrier trophies if we go by consensus in wiki. I think Toulon Tournament is not counted in the current article. In the honours list Toulon Tournament is present, that makes the total trophy count 34 not 33, thanks. Eduardo2024 (talk) 00:29, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

Toulon Tournament and King Salman Cup are exhibition match Penyuntinghandal (talk) 00:16, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
its not an offical competition just like king salma cup or arab club cup. They are both like preseason or friendly cup. Both should be removed to avoid confusion 102.88.62.232 (talk) 05:49, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

Arab cup

Arab cup should not be added because its not an official match but friendly. It is not recognised by Asia local association also by fifa. 102.88.63.215 (talk) 14:09, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

There's no guideline preventing use from mentioning friendly tournaments --FMSky (talk) 14:16, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
Why don't we include the Emirates Cup or the Amsterdam Tournament, or any other club friendly tournament? All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 17:51, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Because no one cares about them, while the arab cup was widely covered in the media --FMSky (talk) 18:20, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Yes I'm sure that's the reason... All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 21:06, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Yes thats the reason. All my warmest wishes FMSky (talk) 21:13, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Well it's actually because club friendlies don't count. All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 21:29, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
Agreed. Friendly competitions do not get mentioned. – PeeJay 08:41, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
Its not sure if its a friendly, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Arab_Club_Champions_Cup multiple sources state different things --FMSky (talk) 10:58, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

Wrong info on Al Nassr image, please use this

In Al Nassr section the image description says: Ronaldo playing for Al-Nassr in a Saudi Pro League match during the 2023–24 season but this image has taken in 19 September when the team was playing an ACL game against Persepolis. btw the image is not good please remove it and please use this file: File:Cristiano Ronaldo in Al Nassr in 2023.jpg and in the description use this: Ronaldo playing for Al Nassr against Persepolis in September 2023 Thanks. Choosing a new picture

Of all the new pictures available in Category:Cristiano Ronaldo in 2023, I think File:Cristiano Ronaldo Al-Nassr 2023.jpg might be better. We should consider the best picture from the available options. MJXVI (talk) 09:18, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Change recent international fixture date

The text of the article indicates that the game in which Ronaldo scored two goals in a 3-2 win over Slovakia was played on "November 13th". Clearly this is intended (both in the source and given that that date has not yet occurred) to be "October 13th". Would change this myself but I don't yet have clearance. Hello On this page, you wrote the number of championships during Cristiano Ronaldo's football career as 34, which is wrong, and the number is 35, and I have two sources for my words. Please correct the wrong information .

First source: https://jobsinfootball.com/blog/who-has-the-most-trophies-in-soccer/

Second source: https://www.messivsronaldo.app/honours-and-achievements/ Mohammad nazem (talk) 13:49, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Change Man Utd 21-23 goals

All the goals Ronaldo scored on his Manchester United return was 27 2A02:C7C:7802:400:A029:546A:AA47:DDBA (talk) 08:29, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

If you're talking about the infobox, the stats are for league only which is 19, not 27 which the table further down says. Therefore, 19 is the correct value for goals scored for his return. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 22:01, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

NOT A BILLIONAIRE

It should be clarified that he is not a billionaire (and never will be if the billion dollar lawsuit against him is allowed to proceed). The article says Ronaldo "is the first footballer and the third sportsman to earn US$1 billion in his career" BUT CAREER EARNINGS ≠ NET WORTH. 65.88.88.56 (talk) 22:11, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

The article doesn't say he is a billionaire though? It just says he has earned $1 billion in his career which is factually correct. It doesn't talk about net worth. Serrwinner (talk) 08:11, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
