Talk:Christopher Dawson

Famous citation

edit

I personally only know the following quote by Christopher Dawson:

"As soon as men decide that all means are permitted to fight an evil, then their good becomes indistinguishable from the evil that they set out to destroy." (https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/c/christophe402604.html)

It so appears to me at present that this quote is the most famous one by Dawson since I have heard and read it in different especially when it came to criticizing torture of potential terrorists committed by CIA agents in order to obtain information on future terrorist attacks.

Does anyone know more about this citation? Maybe in which of his works he mentioned it? Do you find it worthy to be mentioned in the article? --Abzo (talk) 10:02, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I can't figure out how to remove the link and I don't think it's proper to link to the bookseller in this case. Lmlmss44 (talk) 18:52, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Citations don't match, and needs attention to tone

edit

I believe this article needs some attention. The main issue is that many of the citations do not actually seem to contain information corresponding to the statement that was cited. A lot of the writing is too formal and stilted, plus it does not seem an entirely neutral perspective towards Catholicism. I have made some initial line edits but will need to read through sources first before making more detailed edits. Rental87 (talk) 12:11, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, I’ll compensate for my bombastic writing style by redoing it in due course. Mea culpa. Raulois (talk) 16:55, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
