Revisiting the Notability of Chip Merlin for a Wikipedia Page
editDear Wikipedia community,
Amidst my research of this wonderful platform and the racing yachts I envy, I came across this individual who owns a racing yacht and previously had a Wikipedia page. This led me down the rabbit hole of notability and page creation on Wikipedia. At this point, I am confident in suggesting a reconsideration of the recent deletion of the Wikipedia page for Chip Merlin. The deletion discussion resulted in the removal of the page due to concerns about notability and the perceived lack of significant coverage focused specifically on Merlin as an individual. However, since that discussion, new sources and developments have surfaced that might support a different conclusion regarding his notability under Wikipedia’s guidelines. I've collected my thoughts and would like to share them. I appreciate any guidance in the form of feedback or help in moving this forward.
New and Significant Coverage:
- Tampa Bay Times - The article “Tampa's Merlin Law Group Expands Nationwide Footprint” provides a comprehensive overview of the growth and influence of the Merlin Law Group under Chip Merlin's leadership. This piece offers valuable secondary coverage that highlights his impact within the legal industry, particularly in the realm of insurance litigation.
- Super Lawyers Recognition - Merlin has been consistently recognized in Super Lawyers from 2007 to 2024, with features like “Marathon Man” and “Chip Merlin’s Well-Grounded Boots.” These articles not only document his professional success but also contribute to establishing his prominence and influence in the legal community.
- United Policyholders Involvement - Merlin’s extensive involvement with United Policyholders, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for insurance consumers, is well-documented. He has been cited a multitude of times in the organization’s news section, recognized for his expertise and advocacy efforts across various media outlets. Example: https://uphelp.org/smoke-damage-a-source-of-friction-for-standing-home-survivors/
- Coverage in Sailing Publications - Merlin’s ownership and racing achievements with the yacht Merlin have been prominently featured in Sail Magazine and other reputable sailing publications. This coverage adds another dimension to his notability, demonstrating his influence beyond the legal profession. Community Impact and Advocacy:
Chip Merlin’s long-standing advocacy for insurance policyholders, especially in the aftermath of natural disasters, has had a substantial impact. His authorship of Pay Up, Preventing a Disaster with Your Own Insurance Company, along with appearances as a guest commentator on CNN and Fox News, further illustrates his authority and influence in this area.
Improved Sourcing and Notability:
The previous page and deletion discussion did not cover the points I've mentioned here. These new articles, which highlight his career, impact, and recognition in both the legal and sailing communities, provide a stronger foundation for demonstrating his notability.
It appears to me that Chip Merlin meets the notability criteria for a standalone Wikipedia page. It would be beneficial to revisit the deletion discussion in light of these developments, and I welcome feedback from the community on how to best move forward.
Thank you for your consideration. CrimsonGrove (talk) 16:55, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Please stop. Wikipedia is not here to promote Chip Merlin. You are free to create a draft and submit through WP:AfC but keep in mind this was already deleted once pursuant to a deletion discussion. --CNMall41 (talk) 18:41, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
