CHI Limited, incorporated in 1980, is a fast-moving consumer goods company that provides consumer products in the dairy, beverages and snacks sectors. The company's headquarter is in Lagos, Nigeria and it is primarily owned by The Coca-Cola Company. 2 CHI Limited's major manufacturing facility is located in Lagos 3. The company’s range of products is categorized under the master brands, Chivita and Hollandia 4. CHI Limited holds the Nigerian license to market Capri-Sun 5. History Incorporated in Nigeria in 1980 by Dutch entrepreneur, Cornelis Vink, it began operations in March of the same year 5. The company was part of the Tropical General Investment (TGI) conglomerate which had diverse business interests in food, healthcare, agriculture, engineering and other industries 6. The company began distribution of Capri-Sonne in 1982 which later emerged as one of its flagship brands 7. In 1996, the firm introduced Chivita Orange Flavoured Juice to the market, and it was originally sold in cans until 1997 when a paper carton packaging machine was installed. The firm later launched three new flavours in Tetra Brik: Pineapple, Mango and Apple, and in 1999 it introduced blends of Orange and Pineapple 7. CHI Limited is the pioneer in the industry in the use of Tetra Pak packaging for its value-added dairy category, Hollandia. 8 On 30th January 2016, Coca-Cola announced a binding agreement to acquire an initial minority equity shareholding in CHI Limited. Within the agreement, Coca-Cola, made an initial 40 per cent equity investment in CHI Limited and intended to increase ownership to 100 per cent within three years, subject to regulatory approvals, while working on other long-term commercial structures. 9

On January 30, 2019, The Coca-Cola Company announced that it now had a 100 per cent ownership stake in CHI Limited, after acquiring the remaining 60% it did not already own. Brands CHI Limited has two main brands, Chivita and Hollandia, under which it provides a range of Fruit Juices and Value Added Dairy beverages respectively. Its range of fruit juice, juice nectars, and fruit flavoured drinks products are offered under the Chivita master brand, namely Chivita 100%, Chi Exotic, Chivita Active, Chivita Ice Tea, Happy Hour by Chivita, and Capri-Sun.

Its drinking yoghurt brands include Hollandia Yoghurt and Hollandia Zero Yoghurt, while Hollandia Evaporated Milk, Hollandia Slim Evaporated Milk, Hollandia Lactose-Free Milk, and Hollandia UHT Milk, are its milk brands, all housed under the Hollandia master brand.

CHI Limited also produces a range of Snacks products. They include Chi Superbite Sausage Roll, Beefie Beef Roll, and Beefie Meat Pie.

Production At CHI Limited, extra care is taken to use only high quality ingredients which are sourced from all around the world.

Its Chivita juices are made from fruit juice concentrate produced from fresh fruits and vegetables grown in well-maintained groves and orchards. The milk and ingredients used in its drinking yoghurt and milk products are sourced from well-nourished cows which have been bred on fresh, healthy grass growing in hygienic pastures, while the ingredients for snacks are sourced from certified suppliers who are committed to the highest quality and production standards that we also abide by.

An ISO 22000-certified company, CHI Limited employs state-of-the-art and internationally certified manufacturing technology that automates our production processes. These high-quality ingredients and raw materials go through a fully automated production process that restricts human interference and then is finally packed in aseptic packaging to ensure that the quality of the products is retained until or products by consumers.

Retail To avail its products to a wide consumer base, CHI Limited has established footprints in urban and rural Nigeria through a large network of depot operations and distribution partners, key distributors, wholesalers and retailers across the country. Partnerships Manchester United CHI Limited signed an endorsement deal with Manchester United F.C. making them the official drink partner of the Manchester United F.C. in Nigeria. The partnership allowed CHI Limited to use Manchester United F.C's brand assets on a range of CHI products in Nigeria. The partnership was expected to strengthen the company's image especially amongst the over 50 million followers of Manchester United F.C. in Nigeria. 10 The partnership was concluded in August 2020. Mercy Johnson-Okojie In October 2019, CHI Limited signed on accomplished actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie as the Brand Ambassador for its Hollandia Evap Milk brand. With the partnership, she will be able to share how the brand has enabled her to achieve goals on multiple fronts while inspiring consumers who aspire to do the same. It is expected that through her versatility, Mercy Johnson-Okojie would bring her lifestyle choices and influence to bear to fully relate the nutritious benefits of this wholesome all-rounder Hollandia Evap Milk to every member of the family.

Zainab Balogun-Nwachukwu

CHI Limited announced a new partnership in February 2021 with Zainab Balogun-Nwachukwu, a multiple award-winning actress, entrepreneur and influencer, as its Brand Ambassador for Hollandia Yoghurt.

This move is seen as part of the brand’s plan to appeal to a wider consumer audience and reinforce its market leadership. The partnership also recognizes the values which the brand and the actress have in common and celebrates the recognition and leadership both parties have achieved.


Initiatives Chivita World Juice Day In October 2019, CHI Limited held its first-ever Chivita World Juice Day. The aim of the initiative is to promote the fruit juice drinking culture in Nigeria in order to achieve everyday wellness. Set to be celebrated annually on October 17, the initiative has seen CHI Limited bring together nutrition experts and key stakeholders to drive conversations around fruit juice consumption in Nigeria and its health benefits. The 2019 theme was Everyday Wellness: Crystallizing the Role of Fruit Juice, while in 2020, the theme was Fruit Juice: The Smart Secret of Boosting Immunity. Hollandia Nurture A Child In 2020, CHI Limited launched its Hollandia Nurture A Child initiative, which is aimed at addressing the challenge of malnutrition amongst Nigerian children and the overall wellbeing of the Nigerian child in general. Under this initiative, CHI Limited through its Hollandia brand has donated Hollandia Evaporated Milk and Hollandia Yoghurt products to children in IDP Camps, Slums and Orphanages across several regions in Nigeria. The initiative is designed to ease the challenges of children in vulnerable situations, currently experiencing inadequate nutrition, by providing healthy dairy nourishment to boost their immunity and wellness. Awards In 2017, CHI Limited received the Business Day Award for Most Innovative Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Company, while it also received Guardian’s Manufacturing Excellence Beverage Manufacturing Company of the Year Award. The company in 2018, was awarded the Best Kept Industrial Premises by the Manufacturers' Association of Nigeria (MAN).
