– The word "Conference" is not really necessary and makes an already-long title even longer. The proper name for the tournament is "Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament" as listed on the conference's official websites.[1][2] This name is also used by ticketing sites[3][4][5] and some other secondary sources.[6][7][8]

Some sources do use other variants on the name, such as "Big Ten men's basketball conference tournament",[9] or "Big Ten Conference Tournament"[6]. Most commonly, sources will just say "Big Ten Tournament" and use context to indicate which sport,[10][11][12] but that won't work here – we need disambiguous article titles. The title "Big Ten Conference men's basketball tournament" does see some use,[13] but it's just one of many variants out of the crowd (and it's worth remembering that some sources might be copying us).

I'm also proposing similar moves for all the other Big Ten tournaments based on the same reasoning (with the exception of men's ice hockey and the 2015–17 women's lacrosse articles, which already use my naming scheme). All the tournaments exclude "Conference" from the official title, and I suspect the names used in secondary sources would look pretty similar for each of them. Requested move 23 March 2020 (arbitrary break)Edit

Comment: The {{requested moves}} template doesn't allow me to propose moving categories, but presumably, we would want to move these as well:

    • Support all and would support removing the word "conference" for all conferences where the word isn't required for understanding (not CUSA for example). However, that would definitely require a new RM. Red Slash 17:16, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
