Bernard Malone/Bernie Malone

edit

The electionsireland.org website has entries under each of these names. The first entry is that of a Labour politician who, it would appear, was only ever a candidate for the Dáil; the second, that of a (female) Labour politician who, it would appear, stood only in local and European elections. The local and parliamentary contests all seem to have taken place in the Northside. I invite comments from all those with specialist knowledge: is there a story here? If so, what is it?

I spotted this odd coincidence when looking up the 1987 result from Dublin North in Irish Politics Now (Brandon/RTÉ, 1987); the figure named in the tables of the DN article as 'Bernard Malone' is called in that book 'Bernie Malone'. That could be a clue, a transcription/typesetting error (of which that book is not short, I admit), or possibly neither. Harfarhs (talk) 22:22, 19 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've just checked the Irish Times archive. Bernie Malone was elected to the council in 1979, and appears to have been chair of the council in 1984, so I think all of these must actualy be Bernie Malone. David Malone (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:42, 20 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks for taking the time to check the archive, David. It won't surprise you that I suspected exactly what you conclude, but of course I couldn't act merely on suspicion! As well as inviting comment here, I shall attempt to contact the manager(s) of electionsireland for their input. Harfarhs (talk) 22:27, 20 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
