Split the Article edit

Hi, I have looked at this article several times now and am fairly convinced that it would benefit from being split and retitled as "First Battle of ..." and "Second Battle of ...". The reasoning is that these two engagements are distinctly different - the first was fought during the Australian withdrawal and the second during the advance. As such, I find the article a little disjointed. This is unlike the first and second engagements at Kokoda which were immediately sequential in time.

I am thinking that this could be easily done as a reasonably simple cut-and-paste exercise in the first instance and am volunteering to do so. Cinderella157 (talk) 05:15, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

G'day, it definitely could be two articles, in my opinion. I wrote it as one as I didn't have the energy to write two B class articles at the time (and probably don't now, either). I'm certainly supportive of a split, but I'd prefer that it isn't done in a manner that just results in two incomplete articles. I wonder if perhaps you could work on an article on the second battle in draft space – Draft:Second Battle of Eora Creek – Templeton's Crossing (with a specific Background/Prelude and Aftermath) – and then move it to article space when it was ready for B class. This current article could then be moved to "First Battle of.." and it could be reworked to focus on the first engagement. I feel it would need an expanded Battle section and a re-focused Aftermath section. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 08:58, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Will work on splitting out two articles in sandbox. Energy is an issue too but I think I can assemble two reasonable articles from the present one without too much difficulty. It would fit much better into the campaign article too. Cinderella157 (talk) 11:59, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
PS AR. Thanks for keeping an eye on me as I am working on this campaign project. I can see a way through withot a total rewrite and I don't think I have the energy for that again. Your daughter articles have paved the way. Always a pleasure. Regards Cinderella157 (talk) 12:09, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
No worries, I'm keen to see how you get on. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 06:37, 28 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
@AustralianRupert, I have completed a draft for the second battle.[1] You will note that I have changed "Templeton's Crossing II" to just "Templeton's Crossing" and added a redlink. Templeton's Crossing II is the wartime Templeton's Crossing named by Kienzle. Templeton's Crossing I is "Dump No 1 (Anderson p73 and James' desktop study, 2009,p33) I intend writing the article. I am having a little more trouble with the first battle but only because of some "discrepancies" compared with Anderson and McCarthy, which I have on hand. I am working on this but you can see where I am at.[2] Regards, Cinderella157 (talk) 08:52, 29 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
G'day, the drafts look good to me. Please let me know when you are ready to move them to the mainspace. To ensure attribution/licencing I will need to do some history merging so please do not copy-paste them (I should be able to use the admin tools to move the correct edits from your sandboxes). Once they are moved, I will turn this one into a disambig page with links to both the first and second battles. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 09:30, 29 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Just a thought. Might it be easier to just copy the existing page (and its edit history) to the new pages and then copy in the new text as a single edit. That way, the edit history won't show my ramblings (and if you don't mind, the couple of copy edits you have made). You know more about this than I do. If I have this right, you have made a cut in the edit history where I used sandbox 1 for other stuff - so that crap from before won't be included in the history of the new article? No need to answer that particular question. Cinderella157 (talk) 12:04, 29 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Just finished the First battle and a proof read - over to you Blue Leader. I haven't look at figures or their placement. Perhaps you have some ideas. Cinderella157 (talk) 14:09, 29 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
G'day, I've moved them now, removing the sandbox edits that weren't relevant. Thanks for your efforts. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 23:39, 29 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Campaign box edit

Hi @User:AustralianRupert, I saw you have edited the campaign box but I doesn't appear to be working as it should and I can't see why? Cinderella157 (talk) 05:16, 30 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

G'day, possibly a cache issue? If you purge your internet cache of temporary files it might fix the issue, or you could do a dummy edit on the page you are trying to load (i.e. click "edit" and then "save" without making any changes). Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 05:25, 30 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
