Talk:Bao Xishun

the text is copied directly from guiness book of records. IS this an infringment.

Incorrect conversion

edit

7 ft 8.95 in is 236.1 cm, not 238.1 cm. This same mistake is on the Leonid Stadnik page as well.

what about this guy?

edit

Does Wikipedia formally accept Guiness as the authority here? I mean, the published data on Leonid Stadnik seems pretty clear... including an hour long Discovery Channel special which clearly established him a 2.53 This just seems _wrong_ somehow. The fact that GUINESS hasn't measured him seems to be "other than the most important criteria." to me. Certainly a mention on the page of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonid_Stadnik seems appropriate. 70.247.209.49 04:53, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

These claims, as far as I've been able to discover, are not verified by Guinness yet. Until they are, Xishun will hold the "title" so to speak. Walkeraj 20:01, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion???

edit

I'm not sure what Kavadi carrier is talking about. I cited the source perfectly well in the image description. If you follow the URL, you are taken to the China Daily article entitled "World's tallest man longs to live a normal life". The graphic is smaller, to be sure, but it's explicitly resized in the IMG tag. You can view the image directly to see this if you want.--Walkeraj 05:42, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

what the fuck is wrong with it? It seems an adaquite picture. This is just plain stupid.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.250.130.215 (talkcontribs).

The picture was not found on the URL stated on the description page (which you can see by clicking on the image). We do not allow images without source on Wikipedia for copyright reasons. Kavadi carrier 01:57, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

There always seems to be somebody who has nothing better to do that flag perfectly good additions to wiki for speedy deletion based on, at best, weak evidence. Why not try to improve it and make it better rather than criticizing like you do in the majority of your other contributions to Wikipedia. Brettybabe 23:49, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Picture uploaded. Taken from China Daily article online. Fair-use rational given due to the extreme difficulty of obtaining a free image of this fairly reclusive man living as far outside of the public eye as he can in rural Mongolia.

Also corrected news citation to cite the original source. The Dalian News article was a direct copy of the China Daily article, and even cited it. --Walkeraj 19:10 AKST, 14 December 2006

An article on this person already exists: Xi Shun. --Kon-Tiki001 15:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

His Job

edit

The article notes that he *is* both a herdsman and a restaurant greeter. Are these really both correct in the here-and-now? Rhialto 04:28, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth etc.

edit

The World's Tallest Ever People website has a birthdate of November 2, 1951 for him; however, this is the only sourche that I've found.

Note that the man himself claims that he was normal height until age 16, and reached his full height in seven years, i.e. by the time he was 23. If this is correct, he would have been the tallest since the death of Suleiman Ali Nashnush on February 25, 1991. It should be noted though that Radhouane Charbib was measured only 2 mm shorter, so their ranking positions may have changed back and forth over the years. Then again, being almost 16 years older than Charbib, it is likely that Bao's advantage was greater in his peak.

Gigantism?

edit

I understand the term is defined rather loosely, but the article makes it clear that he is not afflicted by what most doctors would consider gigantism. Should he be removed from the "People with gigantism" category? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PenguinJockey (talkcontribs) 17:47, 10 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

Seeing as he's 58 years old and apparently in good health, gigantism seems unlikely. People with gigantism tend to die young, after all. 75.76.213.106 (talk) 22:19, 15 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wedding Ceremony

edit

While the legal marriage took place last march, today the authentic mongolian ceremony did happen.

Guiness World Record status

edit

Today's AP reports are saying the 2008 record holder will not accept Guiness verification, so Xishun is being officially reinstated as the World's Tallest Man starting with the 2009 edition. I changed the "world's tallest man" to redirect here. --Esprix (talk) 14:00, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Does anybody know his original Mongolian name?

I am trying to find his original Mongolian name. If there is anybody who knows his original name, please help me. --GenuineMongol (talk) 03:33, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rheumatism

I don't believe there is a medical relationship between rheumatism and sleeping outdoors. The disease would be abundant in the Third World.--DrJos (talk) 07:24, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
