Model chart

edit

The 8-Series is not included in the model chart for BMW! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.196.189.121 (talk) 14:21, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

CAD

edit

Is there any justification for saying that CAD was unusual in 1989? It was first used in BL in 1985, or before, and I am pretty sure Lotus were using CAD in 1989 Greglocock 08:15, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I remember reading, a long time ago, that Nissan were using Cray supercomputers in the design of their cars as far back as the mid-'80s Jason404 (talk) 02:48, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Production figures don't add up

edit

The article is a bit of a mess. It states that 30,000 8-Series were produced worldwide, yet the figures in the table at the bottom don't add up to anywhere near that amount. Also the article says the car was introduced in 1989, yet in other places it states 1991.Davez621 (talk) 11:08, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

New 8 Series

edit

BMW is rumored to have plans to revive the 8 Series, it may be coming out in 2010 or in 2011, it is going to be a 4-door coupe that competes with the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide, and Mercedes-Benz CLS Class. It may also be true that it will be launched at the IAA Frankfurt Auto Show in 2014 for its 25th Anniversary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by UncleMikhail (talkcontribs) 02:08, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Comparison to Mercedes CL

edit

I've checked all of Road & Track's reviews of the BMW 8-Series. They make no mention of it being designed to compete in the marketplace against the Mercedes CL (the CL is considerably larger). The single model it was compared to was the Porsche 928, and in the US market that was its main competetor. If you have references showing that this car was designed to compete with the Mercedes CL please post them, otherwise this reference will be deleted. Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Page heading image shows non stock vehicle

edit

Aftermarket wheels have been fitted. Perhaps an image showing the car on stock wheels would be more appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.8.10.2 (talk) 21:16, 8 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

BMW 8 Series (E31)BMW 8 Series – There was only one generation of the 8 Series, so it is currently at a needless disambguator. Whilst there was a concept car that used the 8 Series name, I do not see why that should mean this page requires a disambiguator. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 15:46, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on BMW 8 Series. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Personal opinion?

edit

"But this is a design study that works and compared to the spy photography of the upcoming production 8 Series, it closely resembles the real thing." I think this sentence is a personal opinion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shakurazz (talkcontribs) 11:38, 16 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

I would agree with that. The entire Second Generation section needs an update and clean up anyways. Toasted Meter (talk) 14:09, 16 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Infobox photo

edit

I am not a huge fan of the photo in the infobox currently, I thought the old one was nearly perfect, the only thing that gives me pause are the AC Schnitzer wheels, which I like but are not representative of the car as originally delivered. The car in the new photo also has AC Schnitzer wheels. The same problem is present on the 8 Series page where the car has Hartge wheels. I think the Alexandre Prévot photo would with a bit of cropping Be very nice. Toasted Meter (talk) 13:01, 16 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why do we care? The production car is now out, deliveries are starting, some video of the concept is not very relevant. Toasted Meter (talk) 02:59, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

New proposal

edit

I would like to proposal a better picture for the infobox. Thoughts? --Vauxford (talk) 19:12, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Original example, non reflective and no distracting background, the photo has been long used in other articles, I find this is a better example then the one Toasted Meter chosen.

I think the wheels look dirty and the car overall is a bit dingy. The reflections serve to accentuate the lines of the car, on the silver car the styling lines are a bit indistinct. Toasted Meter (talk) 19:18, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

True. The wheels are not even original BMW wheels. Previous image is fine. U1 quattro TALK 07:13, 29 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Those are BMW style 8s, not aftermarket, they were factory fitted to the E31. The picture has problems but wheel originally is not one. Toasted Meter (talk) 08:57, 29 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
