edit"The phrase originated around 16th or 17th century in Poland, and is commonly associated with Polish patriotism. It appeared on Polish military standards in the Second Polish Republic in 1919 and is the most common phrase on currently issued military standards in Poland."
I cannot find a proof for either; according to pl wiki it dates to 19th century, and was not used on Polish standards till 1943. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:30, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
