"Slippery slinker" edit

The pseudonym 'Liukas Luikku' (translated in the article as "slippery slinker") refers to a passage in Finnish national author Aleksis Kivi's novel "The Seven Brothers", where the village boys make fun of the brothers by singing a ditty where each brother is mocked in turn. The last verse, aimed at the youngest and smallest of the brothers, runs:

"Viimein tulee hännänhuippu, pikku Eero, liukas luikku, Jukolan tuiskea rakki."

(Last comes the tail-end, little Eero, slippery slinker, the gnashing cur of Jukola.)

In spite of this characterization, however, Eero is the actually the smartest of the bunch. Using an epithet that nearly every Finn identifies specifically with Eero Jukola thus imparts a double meaning: a person ridiculed by the ignorant but actually the brains of the select. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jarmo K.
