The result of the move request was: moved to AVATAR MUD. There were two titles that attracted significant support in this discussion: AVATAR MUD and AVATAR (video game). (Discussion of capitalization seems to have converged to a rough consensus that the term AVATAR is an acronym and should remain capitalized.) Of the two titles, AVATAR MUD attracted a slightly stronger base of arguments around it: supporters of "AVATAR (video game)" argued that (video game) was the correct disambiguator per WP:NCVGDAB, but supporters of "AVATAR MUD" identified the title as WP:NATURAL disambiguation that obviated the need for a parenthetical DAB in the first place, and also noted that "AVATAR MUD" was more WP:CONCISE. AVATAR (MUD)AVATAR (video game) – Proper disambiguation per WP:NCVGDAB. No objection to AVATAR (1991 video game) or Avatar (1991 video game) if you don't think WP:DIFFCAPS is sufficient to disambiguate from other video games. * Pppery * it has begun... 02:40, 1 July 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 14:37, 10 July 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 15:17, 18 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Support Move to AVATAR (video game), since the name is an acronym. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 07:31, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Use AVATAR (1991 video game) -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 06:15, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Alternative/oppose: I would prefer Avatar MUD. (1) It avoids any parenthetical disambiguation. (2) The all caps does not, to my understanding, stand for anything. [Edit: Well, rather, it's a backronym designed to spell out avatar (computer avatar). The original announcement didn't explain what it stood for, and also included use of "Avatar" [1]. So I'll just say the acronym is a bit peripheral.] Wikipedia's style prefers to disregard all-caps stylized logos and instead capitalize each first letters of each word. MOS:ALLCAPS; MOS:TMRULES. Hence Minecraft is not MINECRAFT. (3) This avoids labeling Multi-User Dungeons as "video games" when they are text-based. (4) Simply linking to WP:NCVGDAB does not help me figure out why the guidelines there suggest AVATAR (video game). (5) Avatar MUD is more concise than all other options. (6) And this happens to be current title of the website. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 04:22, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have no objection to Avatar MUD, but the rest of your line of reasoning is similar to that which was explicitly rejected at Talk:Clannad (video game)#Requested move 19 December 2020, and I see no reason to make an exception here given that. * Pppery * it has begun... 17:10, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
The rest of my line of reasoning, meaning just point 3? I'm not saying the title couldn't contain "video game", just that one benefit is that it avoids that. Plus this MUD doesn't even have images as VNs do. Meanwhile, all of the MUDs with parentheticals at Category:MUD games use (MUD). {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 02:07, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
    • Per the uncapping, that seems reasonable Avatar (1991 video game) would be better, since unless you're playing on a teleprinter terminal, or a punchcard terminal, you are using a videoscreen to view the electronic textual interface. -- 67.70.25.80 (talk) 12:01, 11 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Avatar MUD is better than Avatar (1991 video game) because of WP:NATDIS. It is a common name for the game and it avoids parentheticals. Of course, "Avatar MUD" is often stylized in other ways, like AvatarMUD, AVATAR MUD, and A.V.A.T.A.R. MUD. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 03:23, 18 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • AVATAR (video game) or AVATAR MUD would work fine. It does actually seem to be an acronym (being allegedly a backronym is irrelevant). I lean toward the latter, per SilverLocust's NATDIS reasoning, but if the more WP:CONSISTENT practice would be to use "(video game)" that's also okay. I do think DIFFCAPS would be sufficient here, but ultimately I would not object to AVATAR (1991 video game) either.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  03:21, 23 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
@SMcCandlish: I am fine with AVATAR MUD. As to consistency, WP:NCVGDAB #2.2 only applies to parentheticals, not natural titles like Super Mario RPG, Army Men: RTS, MonsterMMORPG, SC2VN. On it being an acronym, the only sources indicating that it actually stands for something are two posts from 2004 and 2009, long after the 1994 rename. The two even differ on what exactly it stands for. (These are the only two results for advanced virtual on the site. And no non-wiki results on Google) {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 06:38, 23 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. Well, it's been presented in "A.V.A.T.A.R." acronym form since the early period; I suppose it is not necessary for an acronym's expansion to be publicly disclosed for it to remain an acronym.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  07:00, 23 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
