"Slavonika" (?) edit

This name has never been used in a newspaper article or any other adequate material, neither have I heard of it myself although I live in Croatia. The claim about connecting the whole Slavonia is also false, so I'm putting a [citation needed] in that section. The fact that the highway is a part of Corridor Vc is the reason why is this highway being constructed, so I returned the Corridor Vc name. Admiral Norton 23:50, 14 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • The term "Slavonika" was first heard in conjunction with former prime minister Ivo Sanader, as it was used in the context with the similar name highway A1, which has the nickname "Dalmatina". However, "Slavonika" is even written on a road sign when entering the highway, which picture is taken in wikimedia ([[1]]), hence it has become official known name, just by forcing it so... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Phantom25 (talkcontribs) 02:28, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Copyedit comments edit

First off, kudos for the hard work people have put into this article. It is thorough and informative. I hope my copyedit can help it reach GA status, which I feel it's near. Below are some questions and suggestions.

  • Old: "The motorway represents a significant north–south transportation corridor..." New: "The A5 represents a significant north–south transportation corridor...". I hope that word referred to the A5. (If not, change it back; I'm looking to limit repetition of the word "motorway" as much as possible.)
    Yes it did.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • "The A4 motorway route also follows Pan-European corridor Vc." Is this a typo? If not, why is this bit of info about the A4 in the lead to the A5 article?
    Yes, that's a typo - fixed now. Thanks for the heads-up.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • For future reference: Any non-restrictive clause used to modify the main part of a sentence must be set apart by a comma in front and one afterward. (In the following sentence, the italicized bit is a non-restrictive modifying clause: "The first section of the A5, between the Sredanci interchange and Đakovo, was opened in 2007...")
  • "The corridor entails missing sections of the A5 itself, in addition to the southernmost section of the Hungarian M6 motorway as well as large portion of Bosnia and Herzegovina's A1 motorway and the A10 motorway, completing the corridor route at the Adriatic Sea coast." I split this apart from the prior sentence for the sake of clarity, but it still needs work. Does it mean that the completion of the Pan-European corridor Vc will result in less use of the A5? Or that the A5 currently doesn't intersect with the Pan-European corridor? The more you explain here, the more clear we can make this sentence.
Apparently that's a mess as it stands. The Corridor Vc route is planned to be M6-A5-A1-A10, the M6 being in Hungary, the A1 in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the remaining two A's in Croatia. The Vc route and the European route E73 are actually the same and if one looks at the E73 junction list the first Croatian section is planned to be spanned by the A5 from one end to the other - presently northern and southern ends of the A5 are still missing. At any rate, I'll try to rephrase this to make it less confused.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Route description

  • I recommend limiting the "As of (date).." terminology as much as possible. (When more interchanges are added, for example, I'm sure someone will update the article. It might be you.)

Toll

  • I recommend adding some more info into the second paragraph (about toll revenue), or else combining the info in this section into one paragraph and putting it into the "Route description" section (possibly under a new more broad title, like "Route and tolls").
Unfortunately there's simply no reliable info on the revenue pertaining to the A5 specifically, especially since it is a part of the A3-A5 system. I'll see if I can add anything of substance.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

History

  • As with "Toll" above, I recommend combining "Further construction" into the "History" section, since having a number of very short sections is generally a bad idea.
  • Date format by country suggests that Croatia uses the d. m. yyyy format, so it's probably best to change all the dates to that format. (Throughout the article.)
Really? This hasn't been done anywhere else on .hr-related articles on the English Wikipedia. By and large, on en: we have used either the format "13 December 2001" or "2001-12-13". --Joy [shallot] (talk) 22:51, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
    Oh, I meant "13 December 2001". In the article it's "December 13, 2001". Scartol • Tok 03:11, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
    Fixed.--Tomobe03 (talk) 08:54, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • In some spots in the article, the euro symbol is used, but elsewhere the word "euro" appears. They should all use the same format.
    OK, that's easy enough to fix.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • The bit about how in places "the Sredanci interchange with the A3 motorway is also called Slavonika" is confusing. I tried to clean it up, but you may want to take another whack at clarifying.

Traffic volume

  • Earlier the article says: "The motorway is maintained and operated by the state-owned management company Hrvatske autoceste", but in this section we're told: "Traffic is regularly counted and reported by Autocesta Zagreb–Macelj, the operator of the motorway". These seem contradictory to me, but perhaps some of the wording needs more clarity?
No, just plain wrong. Who knows where was my mind.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • The difference between ASDT and AADT is explained twice in this section, with slightly different explanations. I didn't want to combine them because I was worried I would leave something out or characterize something incorrectly. But they should be combined.
  • The notes in the table say (twice): "Average daily traffic figure is provided instead of AADT." Is this annual summer traffic? If not, how does it differ from AADT?
Apparently there's a difference in math involved. I'll provide an explanation of some sort, perhaps in the AADT article and wikilink it.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • "Legislation identifies four types of rest areas": I assume this is national legislation? Does it cover all Croatian motorways? (If so, we should specify this.)
Yes, it's national legislation applying to all Croatian motorways.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Rest areas

  • Sometimes the phrase used is "parking space" and elsewhere "parking spaces". The article should have one style applied throughout.

Good luck with this; let me know if you have any questions or need clarification. Scartol • Tok 17:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the effort! I'll try to address these issues before proceeding to the GAN.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • "across Sava and Drava rivers as the motorway is extended south and north respectively." - switch to "across Sava and Drava rivers as the motorway extends south and north respectively."
  • "There are 4 exits and 4 rest areas operating along the route." - Per MoS standards, some numbers less than 10 should be spelled out; this not not include the road numbers (e.g. A5), units of measure, dates (e.g. December 1), units of measure, or non-whole numbers.
  • "will include the A5, and its completion will will highlight the importance of the A5 motorway." - Double word
  • "Toll collection systems along the A5 and A3 are unified; vehicles switching from one motorway to the other at Sredanci, for example, do not pass toll plazas at the interchange." - Unsourced
  • "directions of the motorway and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week." - 7 should be spelled out
  • On reference #7, move the page numbers to the Page parameter to the cite web template.
  • Thank you very much for reviewing the article. I found your comments constructive and helpful in terms of improving the article. I believe all of the above are addressed satisfactorily by now.--Tomobe03 (talk) 10:58, 29 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
    • Good work on this article. I am satisfied with this article at this point in time. Therefore, I am going to passing this GAN.--12george1 (talk) 03:27, 30 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
