HistoryEdit

BackgroundEdit

The Nadiadwala's, who migrated to Mumbai from Nadiad, Gujarat,[5] have been in the film industry for three generations, starting with A.K. Nadiadwala followed by his son Sulieman Nadiadwala and now grandson Sajid Nadiadwala. Presently, they are celebrating 63 years of their existence in the film industry.[6] The first film to be produced under their legacy was Inspector (1956) by Abdul Karim Nadiadwala. He further went on to produce movies like Taj Mahal (1963) and Chitralekha (1964).[7]

FoundationEdit

The first film produced under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment was Zulm ki Hukumat (1992) directed by Bharat Rangachary starring Govinda, Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor and Dharmendra. Followed by Waqt Humara hai (1993) starring Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty for the first time on big screen. Jeet (1996) went on to be successful and popularised Sunny Deol's hook step in the song "Yaara O Yaara”.

Rise to prominenceEdit

The production house reached a turning point with the release of Housefull (2010) which held a cast of Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani, Arjun Rampal and Randhir Kapoor. The film on release became one of the highest grossers and established Housefull as a successful comedy franchise with the production of Housefull 2, Housefull 3 and upcoming Housefull 4. The music of the next film, a love story, Anjaana Anjaani starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra was highly reviewed by critics. The next film in the line was Kick starring Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez which was also the directorial debut of Sajid Nadiadwala.

The film turned out to be one of the highest grossers of the Box Office for the year.[8] The diverse cultural love story 2 States, starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor in lead roles and directed by Abhishek Varman[9] was yet another 100 crore club that catered to the class as well as mass audience. The sequel, Baaghi 2 became one of the highest grossing films of 2018. It was directed by Ahmed Khan who won Best Action award for Baaghi 2.

Upcoming ProjectsEdit

Currently gearing up for Super 30, Chhichhore and Housefull 4 this year, Sajid Nadiadwala will also bring to screens the third installment of Baaghi with Baaghi 3, the much ambitious sports film '83, and the untitled remake of RX- 100, marking the debut of Ahan Shetty co-starring Tara Sutaria next year.
