Andriasang: has it finally gone "phut"?

I've tried to access Andriasang several times over the past few days, and all I see (outside the archived links) is a "Welcome to nginx" screen. This means that virtually all of the links to the site I used for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Characters of the Final Fantasy XIII series, and another link on Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, are useless. Is this just a hiccup, or is the site finally dead? This needs working out, to see if the info they contain can be salvaged for the articles in question. --ProtoDrake (talk) 18:53, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Final Fantasy VII

Given the size of the other sections, gameplay feels a bit.. brief? Maybe it's just me.

The music/soundtrack section could be bigger as well- Secret of Mana manages to have a much, much more intensive discussion of the music, for example.

There are also some issues with the references- ref2 is just a url, for instance, and it's inconsistent as to, for example, IGN being the publisher or IGN being the work and News Corporation being the publisher. Dates are also inconsistent- ref 120, for example, has the archive date as 2011-11-30, but the retrieval date as February 14, 2011, while 124 has a date of 07.03.2011 (and weird formatting besides), 117 has a Jun 24, 2009, and 125 has a 30 December 2011. There's also all-caps in some of the references, some of the authors are firstname lastname instead of lastname, firstname, and there's a few dead links. --PresN 23:32, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Final Fantasy III cover art

The article currently uses the Famicom cover art. However, WP:WikiProject Video Games prefers generally first English releases for English readers. I plan to have File:Final Fantasy III Nintendo DS.jpg (the first English cover) undeleted. But I am discussing it here instead beforehand. --George Ho (talk) 22:40, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

While I agree that we usually go with the first English cover, which would mean the 2006 DS cover, I'd prefer if you didn't for a few reasons- one, the original game came out in 1990, so a cover from 16 years later seems wrong. Second and third, the original Japanese NES cover is more visually appealing and keeps the consistency of having FF2-6 all with the original release cover. You also get the Yoshitaka Amano artwork with the original cover, but not with the DS cover. --PresN 23:23, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Popular pages tool update

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

New page for project's attention

I have just created a page for the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. It needs work, and plenty of it over the coming months. It still needs a gameplay section (however small), proper expansion of the plot section when the time comes, and full coverage of its reception. Mmm, the development section is nice, but I'm not convinced that the HD version needed its own article, since the plot and gameplay are the same as the original. Guess we can wait a few weeks to see how it shakes out once it's been released. Added it to the Index in the meantime, which I've re-worked to be prettier and have importance ratings, if anyone cares. --PresN 23:01, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

In answer to concerns about notability, the gameplay isn't strictly the same. The main games may be identical, but this version also uses the content from the International versions, which added content and changed up the gameplay enough to be notable. Also, there's a localized version of Last Mission, which both has its own story not covered in any of the articles and its own style of gameplay substantially different from the original. And the game has trophy support, which someone will doubtless add at some point. And there's the audio drama, which will not have a place anywhere else and forms a part of the Remaster. It is very advisable to wait a few months, but don't dismiss it as a lost cause. Besides, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix seem to be surviving. Can KH13 be used?

I'm sorry if this has been asked previously, but I was just wondering if KH13.com could be used for RS transcriptions? I know it is a fan site/forum, but they have two transcriptions of interviews done by Tai Yasue for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix at E3. Here and Here. The first is in Japanese, so I was wondering if I could cite it as |publiser=Dengeki Online via KH13 The Square Enix Presents video has not been published by Square Enix themselves yet, but I would also use the same code for that once it has. My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. Hey people! User:Judgesurreal777 here, sorry I have been less active (and I'm so sorry about the GA nominations I left, I didn't take them down because I kept promising myself I would finish them and then User:PresN saved the day for most of them. I can't give him and User:ProtoDrake and others enough Barnstars for their work over the last year!). I wanted to suggest that we work together to get Final Fantasy XIV to GA status as it would revive our Featured Topic, and that would be awesome since it would link to the soon to be approved Good Topic of Final Fantasy XIII!! (Everyone PLEASE go review to nomination, it needs more to have a final decision! :) ). Years ago, we would tag team articles to get them to Featured Article Status, and although most of you are now champions of FA on your own, it would be fun to work together on the same article again as we did way back in the old days of the 2000's. Heck, I even created three of the currently existing ones. And to think I've never played one of them. Rinoa Heartilly question

I've had a look at this article, and am not entirely convinced that there's enough substance to justify its split from the main Characters article for VIII. I had a look round to try and provide references for the section on the character's creation, but there was very little, and some of the information there didn't seem to exist in any form. I've been quite critical of some of the video game character article spin-outs...but that one does have quite a bit of reception going for it. Relationships/romance was a big part of the game, so commentary in regards to her role of it strikes me as noteworthy commentary. I haven't looked at it too deeply, but at first glance, it seems better than most attempts. (Opposed to, lets say, all of those "Female character x was ranked #3 best babe by website y because she's super hawt" type commentary so many articles attempt to hinge on.)

I do object to a rando cosplayer being the only image in the article, but I suppose that's another issue altogether... Sergecross73 msg me 02:53, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Cover arts of Final Fantasy PlayStation 1, 2, and 3 games

Ever since the original Japanese release of Final Fantasy (1987), subsequent games have use both English and Japanese titles, like FF7 and FF10. Even though there is the Project's guideline, I don't think it as totally absolute. Wouldn't changing to Japanese cover arts on PlayStation games be cooler for English readers? --George Ho (talk) 02:24, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

The purpose of the infobox image is to serve as a visual identifier for the subject. For video game covers, that means that on the English wikipedia, we use the English-language cover that readers would be likely to see, rather than the "coolest". I'm also not sure why you think that the Japanese covers would be "cooler" for English readers? --PresN 03:00, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

All right, Japanese cover arts not only are cool. Japanese cover arts of Final Fantasy also have English titles. They help balance the article because I don't have to choose either North American editions or European editions, which also use Japanese designs (without Japanese titles). I mean, Final Fantasy has been widely released forever. Should I keep the North American edition of Final Fantasy VII or replace it with the PAL European/Australian edition? The European/Australian edition does not have Cloud standing in front of the Shinra building; neither do Japanese ones. If a Japanese edition has an English title, I guess we can use it? Otherwise, I must use either American or European edition, which do not feel... Japanese to me. --George Ho (talk) 05:02, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Per WP:STOPCHANGINGIT, we should use whatever covers are already there. General consensus for video games articles is that discussions about changing the cover images from one region to another are usually tedious, interminable things that add very little benefit.
