User Timothyhouse1

Timothyhouse1 has been making some recent edits that were clearly not very sensible, for example, removing valid content and adding a list of non-notable people in Yishun, and listing myself as an alumni of my previous school. Does this constitute vandalism or a breach of privacy, and what are possible courses of action, other than reverting changes? --Joeyfjj (talk) 17:32, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

I don't think adding your real name to the article is a breach of privacy because no sensitive private information like your email address or phone number has been revealed. But the information shouldn't be in the article, of course, as it is unreferenced and not encyclopedic. Deliberate removal of valid content that is properly referenced may amount to vandalism. If discussing the matter with Timothyhouse1 on the article talk page or his user talk page doesn't work, you can ask for help at "Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents". You seem to know him in real life – if so, have you tried speaking to him in person? — Cheers, JackLee talk 21:53, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

"Hindu temple in Singapore's Little India"

Anyone recognize this temple? Am hoping to rename the file to something more meaningful. — SMUconlaw (talk) 17:50, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

It is the Sri Thendayuthapani Temple, which is actually a bit further away from the heart of Little India. —Arsonal (talk + contribs)— 20:08, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Mount Elizabeth Hospital

Mount Elizabeth Hospital seems rather short article. Since several prominent people from outside of Singapore have died there (ie. President Zillur Rahman, 2012 Delhi gang rape victim), I assume this is a major medical center of advanced techniques in the region. As such, it should really have a longer article. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 01:03, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Singaporean TV series articles

Why, just why, do SGpedians like adding useless and unreferenced "trivia" in TV series articles? Picking a random example, this article houses some ten points of useless and un-sourced trivia... I tried removing the trivia parts from other articles but it got reverted by some SGpedian. I propose that we post some notice that every SGpedian can see. Like, "Please DO NOT add useless trivia". How do I go about doing that? ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 13:21, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

You can add comments to articles by surrounding them with "<!-- TEXT GOES HERE -->", but I think it would be better just to remove the information added and explain to the editor on the article talk page that trivia is not appropriate for articles (referring them to this guideline where necessary). — SMUconlaw (talk) 17:12, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
I don't think these methods can get through the thick Singaporean skulls of theirs. I once templates the section with a "no trivia" template and subsequently removed all the trivia; it got reverted by some other SGpedian. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 14:49, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, that's the correct procedure. Revert with a proper edit summary and, if you think fit, put a message on the article talk page as well. Bear in mind WP:3RR. If the editor keeps re-adding the information after that, then request for page protection for the article and report the editor for edit warring. If the activity is very recent, you can also request for administrator intervention against vandalism. — SMUconlaw (talk) 17:39, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

List of programmes broadcast by MediaCorp Channel 8

Hello, haven't been on here in a bit. Anyone still here? I'm thinking of getting this article recreated - was surprised to see it was deleted with very few comments, especially since it seems to be more of a clean-up problem than anything else (and leaves a big gap in the other 'list of programmes' articles. Would help to get some consensus on this. -ryand 12:44, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Wikimedia User Group for Singapore

Hi guys. Some of you may remember me from Meetup 7, where I enjoyed the wonderful company of the Singapore Wikipedians who were in attendance. Again, please allow me to thank all of you for hosting me so graciously. One of the things that I have mentioned during that meetup is the possibility of Singapore Wikipedians organizing into a more "formal" group. As times have apparently changed from October 2012, please allow me to expand further on this note from the previous meetup.

In March last year, the Wikimedia Foundation passed a resolution recognizing new models of affiliation as an alternative to your standard incorporated chapter. However, it was only in December that the User Group model was finally approved. User Groups are for groups of Wikimedians who wish to promote to projects in the offline world through meetups, events and other projects which help forward the projects in a particular locality, but do not wish to undergo the bureaucracy entailed in organizing a formal chapter. As User Groups do not need to be incorporated under local law in order to be recognized, this structure may be more appropriate for smaller communities like the Wikipedia community in Singapore, and I still believe that it would be beneficial for you guys to have the blessing of the Foundation in order to forward the projects, and in the process, avail of funds for fulfilling projects which are available to you through the WMF grants program.

As a newly-appointed member of the Affiliations Committee, the body which approves chapters, User Groups and the like, please allow me to inform you that should you choose to organize a User Group, I assure you my full support in ensuring that your affiliation is secured, and that I will do what I can to continue helping Wikipedians in Singapore pursue meaningful projects to promote Wikipedia in Singapore, owing to my own ties to the island: my aunt and her family live in Singapore, and I visit them at least once a year. Since last year, I have made it a point that should I be able to visit there, I hope to continue meeting local Wikipedians. I hope that somehow, this discussion will lead to a greater awareness of the benefits of having an organized local group promoting projects there, and I hope that somehow, a meaningful discussion will result because of this.

Thanks and, hopefully, I hope to see some of you soon, if not in Singapore, then during Wikimania 2013 in Hong Kong, where I hope some of you have made the choice to attend! :) --Sky Harbor (talk) 15:54, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Budget Terminal pictures

Hello SGpedians. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but since I'm Filipino, I'm asking if a Singaporean Wikipedian was willing to do this. As you all know, Singapore Changi Airport's Budget Terminal was closed last 25 September, and by now should be completely demolished. While the terminal wasn't that well liked by Singaporeans, I have sentimental feelings for the terminal, as it was the terminal I used when I visited Singapore two years ago. I was wondering if anyone here would be willing to visit the site and take pictures of the site and show what remains of the terminal. Unfortunately, by now demolition should be complete, so we can no longer see the stages of demolition. Or is access currently blocked off? If so, maybe the pictures could be taken from the closest accessible place. I've seen it through Google Street View but the image is outdated. Thank you. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 10:16, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Not a Singaporean, but as someone who follows the board (and who follows airports and aviation a lot), what I do know is that access to the Budget Terminal has been fenced off as this will also be the site of the new Terminal 4. Based on the information available on Wikipedia, demolition should have ended last month. --Sky Harbor (talk) 11:32, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Help with article for Ng Ser Miang

Hello, I am currently working on behalf of Ng Ser Miang, a prominent Singaporean businessman involved with the Olympics, to make improvements to his article here on Wikipedia, which currently suffers from a number of issues—so extensive are the issues, in fact, that I've gone ahead and completely redrafted the article, uploading my draft to my userspace. I've provided some more details about the problems with the current article, as well as an overview of my draft, at Talk:Ng Ser Miang.

Because of my financial COI, I won't implement the draft myself. Instead, I'm asking volunteer editors to take a look at my work, and, if everything seems okay, move my draft over into the mainspace. If someone here has time to take a look and help out on this project, I would very much appreciate it! Cheers, ChrisPond (Talk · COI) 15:46, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Hmm. Must it be on Singapore? Because this year I've already written two GAs. Not on Singapore, sadly. :) ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 11:16, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
The unregistered user is complaining about the lack of new Singapore-related GAs this year, so yes, your five potential GAs must be Singapore-related. If you can write so many DYKs and two GAs about topics pertaining to other countries, then surely you can write some potential GAs about Singapore-related topics. I say "potential" because I know how long the wait for a review is and you may need my help with polishing. Suggest you pick topics where you can write an article of length similar to Money No Enough, Pathlight School, Ya Kun Kaya Toast or Yip Pin Xiu. You may choose to write these five potential GAs from scratch or expand your existing Singapore-related DYKs. --J.L.W.S. The Special One (talk) 11:39, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Questions about an article for creation for a female Singaporean Funeral Director

Greetings Dear Singapedians

I recently drafted an article for Ang Jolie Mei, a female Singaporean funeral Director. Jolie is a notable person in the Singapore deathcare industry, and her father was a notable person among Singapore's Hokkein community. She had received her fair share of media coverage from the SPH and MediaCorp publications. I had cited all these references in the article for creation, but the request was turned down with a reason that these sources were unverifiable. I wonder how articles published by SPH and MediaCorp the only existing media groups in Singapore can be dismissed as unreliable. But some administrators suggested I take the draft article to Singapore Wiki Project so that they would be able to understand its context. The following is the template. Any help from Singapore Wikipedians to improve this article would be appreciated.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Ang_Jolie_Mei

Regards Writer WrenchWriterwrench (talk) 04:43, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

I don't think the reviewers were criticizing the sources that you relied on in the draft article. The problem may have been that not all the information in the draft was supported by reliable published sources. For example, the following paragraphs do not seem to be referenced at all:
  • "She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Psychology from the National University of Singapore. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in financial management from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and is a Certified Financial Planner from the Financial Planning Association of Singapore."
  • "Jolie acquired her funeral celebrant certificate from Australia's Celebrations Training in 2010. She is also a certified funeral director from Canada's Mount Royal University since 2012."
  • "Jolie's two sisters later joined her to help put the business back on track."
  • "In 2010, Jolie established Life Celebrant, a funeral organisation specialising in customized and personalised funeral services. Life Celebrant also offers hospitality, commemoration and memorial services, apart from decedent care, funeral concierge and funeral consultancy services. Life Celebrant is a member of National Funeral Director's Association (NFDA) and the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association (ICCFA). Jolie is the only certified funeral celebrant and funeral director in the Singapore funeral industry. She was the second runner up in My paper's executive look competition in 2010. The same year, she also appeared in two Chinese variety shows showcasing her work as a funeral director." (The YouTube video mentioned in footnote 8 cannot be used. The copyright in the programme belongs to MediaCorp, and there is no evidence that MediaCorp gave permission for the programme to be uploaded to YouTube. It is against Wikipedia policy to provide external links to material that infringes copyright: see "WP:ELNEVER".)
  • "Ang Jolie Mei believes in living life to the fullest, and is passionate to learn about people's life story because she believes everyone's life should be told, shared and remembered. Jolie is a strong advocate of pre planning of funerals and the need to create will and testaments before death. She also encourages personalised and customised funeral celebration services, which is now a growing trend in the traditionally conservative Singapore society."
However, I think there may be a more fundamental problem with the draft. I am not sure why Ang should be regarded as notable. Funeral directors are not inherently notable persons (unlike politicians and sportspeople, for example), and there really isn't anything in the article which indicates why Ang is a particularly notable funeral director. — Cheers, JackLee talk 17:40, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
