Wikipedia talk:So you made a userspace draft

Latest comment: 2 years ago by Sdkb in topic Redundant content

Example moved from project page edit

For example, User:Jim Wales decides to create an article on his favorite drink, Jimbo Juice.

Creating a user subpage draft article

In the search box, Jim would type in:

User:Jim Wales/Jimbo Juice

...and press go.

Jim would then click on the red link, and create the article.

Categories edit

Should we encourage people to put categories in their user space drafts? I would say, only do that when your draft is ready to move to article space. Otherwise, you get user space drafts coming up in article space categories. For example, look at User:Matglas86/treasure_hunts_evangelism, which I found through an article space category. --SJK (talk) 22:41, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree drafts (of questionable notability) should not pollute the mainspace categories. --Palosirkka (talk) 17:40, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Mainspace edit

The help desk gets a stream of queries about moving new articles, so the advice here needs to be 100% clear. Can we lose the mention of "mainspace", please, which is yet another confusing term for new users. I'm posting here after a help desk plea from someone who moved an article to User:Mainspace/Ernest So. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:22, 30 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Screenshot edit

How about including a screenshot of a correctly-filled-in "move" page? -- John of Reading (talk) 08:34, 30 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sept. 30 revision edit

Why is the information about the template no longer necessary?

"Afterwards, edit the new page to remove the {{Userspace draft}} template and replace it with the {{New unreviewed article}} template so that other editors will know to be helpful."Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 21:22, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

{{Userspace draft}} has been coded to check which namespace it is being used in. If it is being used in article space, it guesses that a draft has been moved, and calls {{New unreviewed article}}. You can check that this is working by picking an article or two from this list. Clever! -- John of Reading (talk) 21:34, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

These instructions do not match those at WP:RM edit

This page says that non-autoconfirmed users should submit a move request. WP:RM states that moves from userspace are beyond the scope of that process, and that the correct method is for newer users to add {{subst:AFC submissions/submit}} to the top of their draft. Discussions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation seems to confirm that the AfC template is the preferred method of handling userspace drafts. I propose changing the wording of the userspace draft template and these instructions to match the information at RM and AFC. Cliff (talk) 08:32, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

What to do if you find a namespace draft that has been abandoned. edit

I found a namespace draft at User:PatKro31/sandbox, are there any instructions on what to do, and what if so, what page are they on? ― Qwerfjkl|   20:34, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Redundant content edit

This page is largely a fork of Help:Your first article. I think most of the content should be excerpted from there, with only a few bits particular to drafts. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 22:29, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
