Windows 7: eswiki: "Login failed"

I used Huggle 2 on eswiki (and only on eswiki) without any problems.

After installing Huggle3.1.1, the login window displays the following error message: Login failed, unable to parse local config for eswiki: template-summ contains no data (no revert summaries).

An attempt to login on enwiki delivers the correct message: no rollback permissions. On dewiki Huggle3 is running without any problems.

Hi, that means huggle configuration on eswiki is missing some required information, in this case it doesn't contain "template-summ" which contains the definition of custom revert summaries, based on warning template you chose. For example on english wikipedia we have:

You would need to insert something same for spanish wikipedia for it to work, without this huggle can't revert things using custom revert summaries. On spanish wiki you have these revert reasons:

External browser

Huggle 313: view edit in external browser is no longer functioning. One always gets the W main page... Hello! I use Windows 7. Whenever I select an edit from your queue, get it in front of me, and decide to view it in an external browser (Firefox 32.0.2), that works fine, I land on the diff page involved. Then, when I want to inspect a later edit (later in time) for the same entry (as shown in the history section on the right -or wherever you put it) and select and view it, that works fine. But then when I want to open it in an external browser (Firefox again), I see the latest diff of the Wikipedian main page... Note that this also happens when I try to open earlier edits from that history overview. NOTE: I did a series of click-experiments with this. Outcome: the edits earlier-in-time always give problems, but the edits later-in-time, afterwards, are not consistently wrong: sometimes I do get the correct W diff. Up to you! Apparent font problem

I've noticed using Version: 3.1.3 build: 2029 3.1.3 without python support, compiled using QT 5.3.1 Running on QT 5.3.1 that the font in which the article is rendered does not display descenders. It may be peculiar to my display, resolution, or somesuch but since I have not noticed this with earlier versions of huggle I thought I would mention it here. Queue not populating on OSX

Hi. Today I opened HG and was prompted to download version 3.1.3. The download page doesn't appear to have a link to 3.1.3 for OSX, only for Windows. I went to what the URL would be, github.com/huggle/huggle3-qt-lx/releases/download/3.1.3/huggle_3.1.3.dmg and was able to download a file of that name. However, despite the name it apparently is still version 3.1.2. Anyways, I am able to get 3.1.2 open, but the queue isn't populating for some reason. @Rich Smith: I downloaded the dmg but it still appears to be 3.1.2. @Petrb: Pastebin at pastebin.com/F6mqqsPL. Everything looks normal to me, but the view is not updated. E.g. Queue, Network, Processes, status bar, everything – no output. The only thing is the Network tab reads "You are now connected to huggle antivandalism network. Connecting to Huggle anti vandalism network". Side notes – the "New version available" dialog does not close when I hit the Close button or the OSX close X at top-left. From logs I can see:

• You indeed run 3.1.2
• You have a decent CPU because it loaded pretty fast :P
• IRC connection works just fine and huggle does accept the data from wikimedia RC feed

Unfortunately I don't see where the problem could be. On other hand, 3.1.2 should work as well, so the problem isn't really just in packaging, it might be even somewhere else. I wonder if huggle 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 works to any other mac users? Did you change any internal settings (eg. by modifying huggle3.xml on your disk)? Petrb (talk) 16:01, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

@Petrb: Made no modifications to any files. One morning it just stopped working. And yes, I am using a pretty beefy machine and a fiber optic internet connection, so don't think any of that is the issue. I tried completely removing Huggle (just deleting it from /Applications) and then copying the dmg back over. Are there any other troubleshooting steps I could try? I have another OSX machine at home. @Petrb and Rich Smith: Just downloaded and ran the 3.1.3 dmg on a different OSX machine, at first it did not work, showing only the live statistics at the bottom and nothing else. I got curious and opened up an old beta version of HG3 that I still had, and it worked. I then opened back up 3.1.3 and all is well... so I'm really confused. I can confirm 3.1.2 is also working on this machine. I will try both versions on my other machine tomorrow. — MusikAnimal ^talk 01:02, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Increase font

Version: 3.1.3 problems

Sometimes clicking on the "View this in an external browser" button takes me to the Main page history. This seems to happen more if I select a different edit in the history bar.

Cluebot had reported a vandal, but when I clicked on "Check if user is reported" button in the Report user dialog box, it returned "The user is not reported now". Jim1138 (talk) 16:44, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Current warning level not shown in H2 queue

Since quite a while the current user warning levels aren't shown anymore in the queue column on the left in Huggle 2—current version 2.1.24. All users who have any warning level are always shown as reverted user and thus have a yellow square, regardless their current warning level. Can this be fixed? cmake on *nix puts huggle in /usr/local, not /usr

Default behavior for cmake on *nix installs huggle into /usr/local, but huggle in two places expects itself to be installed to /usr: in definitions.hpp it defines the extension path as /usr/share/huggle/extensions, and build/huggle.desktop expects the logo to be at /usr/share/huggle/huggle3_newlogo.png. You need to run cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX:PATH=/usr it seems like some distribution related cmake glitch / weird default install path. On debian and ubuntu this works fine. Petrb (talk) 16:46, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Huggle 3

• In Huggle 2, I used to watch both newly created articles and edits (using the "display two queues" option). Is this possible in Huggle 3 (by either displaying an additional queue, or by merging two feeds into a single queue)?
• In Huggle 2, I used to revert edits with a custom edit summary. Is this possible in Huggle 3?

@Mike Rosoft: No, and I think no. Removing the two queues was one of the new "changes" in Huggle 3... I think it was due to the feature being "not necessary". I guess it was a nice feature for at least some editors. The second one I have not attempted in HG3, though I'm aware of the feature existing in HG2. I mainly use Twinkle for this task. I'm hearing a lot about these two features possibly becoming available as separate extensions for the program. --I am k6ka ^{Talk to me!} _{See what I have done} 02:13, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Yes, it's possible to "merge" it, by default huggle display new pages as well, so you will see them. Regarding the custom revert summary, that will be implemented in next version. Petrb (talk) 20:07, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Use system messages for deletion

I noticed the list of deletion reasons includes only the WP:GCSD criteria, while the block only has a standard vandalism message for rationale. The system messages are at MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown and MediaWiki:Ipbreason-dropdown, respectively. Could we use these as the presets in the Huggle interface? @Petrb: Some people don't like how Huggle 3 doesn't update automatically like Huggle 2. Some also dislike how Huggle 3 often displays revisions that are not the latest, and in my experience I seem to constantly load earlier revisions of the same page, which is perhaps a bit annoying. I also like how you can revert multiple edits made by multiple users in Huggle 2 easily by simply clicking the main revert button - I'm not sure if this works in Huggle 3, but I do know that I need to click a drop-down menu to do the same. I also like how Huggle 2's "View this in an external browser" opens the diff that I was viewing in Huggle, instead of the page in its current version, which makes Twinkle's "Last diff" link very useful (but it would be better if I got to the diff immediately instead of with an extra click). Alternatively, some users may just like Huggle 2's interface better, as the diff viewing area is much larger by default.

OK but it is possible to change the preferences so that it does behave like old huggle, I created this button so that you can switch all of them: https://github.com/huggle/huggle3-qt-lx/commit/fb90c68d202d8a11260a3dc549e8850b29d8f642 reverting by multiple users is technically not possible, huggle 2 just silently does "restore this revision" with standard rollback reason, which IMHO isn't best solution (how do you know if program is going to revert all newer revisions or even that one which you are looking at?), in huggle 3 you can just switch the revision which is good and click - page -> restore this revision which will revert all edits made by all users back to selected revision. Regarding open in a browser, that should work same as in huggle 2 and if it doesn't it's a bug which would be fixed if it was ever reported. Huggle 3 has far more customizable layout and you can make diff area as big as you like (the extra panels that aren't in huggle 2 can be hidden). Petrb (talk) 09:05, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Fwiw, I really can't work with H3 at all. The vertical History and User info windows are not workable and don't come even close to replacing the original horizontal mouse-over History and Contribs ribbons of H2. This is i.m.o. H2's by-far most powerful feature, and it is sadly missing. Three other absolutely indispensible H2 features that are sadly missing in H3:

1. the horizontal article tabs,
2. the Show User Information button and its User information pop-up window,
3. the button Show diff between this and latest revision.

The result of pressing the New tab (+) button (2nd row, 4th from the left), resulting in a new tab being created. This way multiple tabs can keep an eye on multiple articles, and as each time one of the "opened" articles gets changed, the article title on the tab gets red. This results in some kind of "hot" watchlist, and it seems entirely absent in H3. - DVdm (talk) 10:10, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

I liked that feature as well - especially because HG2 auto-updated, it allowed me to "stalk" an article while I go check a few other diffs, and if someone edited that page, the tab would flash red to let me know. I am also experiencing the "intoken parameter has been deprecated" problem using 2.1.23 and cannot revert multiple edits or send warnings. Will there be a fix or a workaround, or do we have to move to 3? BethNaught (talk) 14:18, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Hold your fire!

This is upsetting me, making things slower to revert edits. It keeps telling me to hold my fire. Does Huggle have a problem loading the edit or something?

I guess you enabled this in preferences because it's disabled by default. By default huggle display a version of edit which it has in memory but you can change it so that in case that the page was changed very recently (like in last 10 sec) huggle will instead show this "hold your fire" warning and start downloading a new version a page. This of course takes some time because of network speed. You can change preferences to show the last downloaded diff instead of latest one. Petrb (talk) 17:16, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I stand for what I said. There is a huge banner already on top of the page, which say exactly the same as what you added in the new level 2 (only level 2 on whole page) section. I believe that our users don't need to be bothered with these messages on every second line of main page. If someone is intelligent enough to use huggle, which indeed isn't simplest tool on the planet, they probably need just 1 reminder. Huggle can't do any permanent damage to wiki, it can't blow it up, it won't kill anyone, so I guess we don't need to overload the main page with this kind of warnings. When I try to log in with Huggle 2.1.24 I get the following message:

Hi, I believe that this message is related to some mediawiki update, which probably, as always, broke the backward compatibility (mw devs love to break it). So the way that hg2 was retrieving the configuration is no longer possible. But this is just a guess, some analysis needs to be done and code which gets the config may need to be updated. The problem is not, that mw api changes, but that hg2 bails out on every warning, even if its only a deprecation warning for a FUTURE api change.
Huggle 2.1.25 only fixes that for the fetch of the global config, but lot of other querys need also the fix (including local config query and RC via non-IRC). Updating user status in History window and Page and Editbar

In Huggle 2, when a user's (or IP's) warning level changed (by being reverted and warned by myself or by someone else), this was immediately reflected in the horizontal Page and User "ribbons" of the Editbar. Alas, this seems not to happen in H3. The change is also not reflected in the User History window. That depends. I can do this for queue, which indeed has this problem, but editbar and history should refresh when you hit revert as it loads next edit by default. On other hand, in case you set "stay on page" after revert, it may not refresh. I need a protable version because I am not able to use the normal version of Huggle at work (in my freetime). Portable huggle is already available, the instructions for setup differs per OS, here is guide for windows: Install package on some computer and copy folder huggle from Program Files to your flash drive, then create a shortcut (or powershell script) for huggle startup that would pass it parameter --chroot "path to huggle folder on your flash drive". Huggle 3 doesn't require installation as all libraries are in same folder. Only problem here is that on some computers flash drive may have different letter, however a simple powershell script could fix it, that would basically just run:

huggle.exe --chroot `pwd`

Huggle 3 Reporting Random Diffs to AIV

Ever since I switched to Huggle 3 I've been reluctant to report users. The diffs I select in the report window are never the ones reported to the AIV (unless the user has made no other edits). Huggle 3 seems to report completly random edits by the user instead of the ones I select. (most recent example). I've never had this problem in years past using Huggle 1 and Huggle 2. Duration of a user warning level

Update window

I am using an older version of Huggle and am not updating it because my university does not let me download EXE files. I feel like this might have been a thing in HG2, but I could be misremembering. When I see an IP or new user whose first edit is a few repeating characters or some similar test-looking edit, I don't like to slap on the warning templates right away. I like to put up a {{welcome-anon-unconstructive}} or some such, as I feel it's a lot less bitey for someone who is trying out editing for the first time.

In HG, there is only one option for welcoming users, and it's for constructive edits. I would like there to be options for welcome messages for problematic edits like Twinkle has. For now, every time I see an edit like I mentioned I revert it in HG, open the diff into my browser, manually open the IP/new user's page and put on a welcome template with Twinkle. Filter draft articles

Is there a way to filter out edits within the draft namespace? Sometimes you'll see things like unexplained removal of sourced content, which is not inherently wrong outside the mainspace. Huggle 3 currently doesn't implement any check for this requirement. Currently implemented in HG3 are require-edits, require-autoconfirmed, require-rollback and require-config. Rollback broken completely since 3.1.5

Ever since upgrading to huggle 3.1.5 I have not been able to rollback any edits using it. When I try to revert I get error messages like these:

• Sat Nov 22 21:26:22 2014 Did not revert Elisabeth Hasselbeck: ERROR: Cannot rollback, token +\ is not valid for some reason (mediawiki bug), please try it once more

Some background

Mediawiki has deprecated old way of token retrieving, and new one is clearly bugged (this new one was implemented in current huggle). Even if we do everything according to documentation, we are getting invalid tokens which result in this bug. However this happen only rarely and it's very hard to reproduce. See the attached link to bugzilla. It may happen that sooner or later older huggle will stop working as they drop support for that deprecated call so I hope they are going to fix it. Yes, there are two ways how to send a warning:

• Send automatic warning of default (Q) or custom type (dropdown) - this will always try to put next warning, eg. user who has lvl 1 warning should get lvl 2 warning.

Virus in huggle 2.1.26.exe?

Huggle 3 doesn't work on some of my PCs (I guess due to the firewall on my server), so I used HG 2.1.26 and everything was fine, but today my download　of http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle 2.1.26.exe was blocked by a local McAfee antivirus with a message that the .exe file contains the Artemis!3DC14B82FF5A virus. Hi, I scanned the file https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/8848c9577ccdd88a5c3fbcb490e66952f118932680781d40490322bdc16e7a44/analysis/ and indeed there seem to be something triggering alerts, but I still believe it's a false positive as VB often produces these (lot of viruses including ILOVEYOU were written in VB) so AV software often see these as viruses even when they are not. I will do some more investigation, but for now I believe there is no need for any panic. You can always get huggle3 which doesn't get any AV notifications. Petrb (talk) 08:41, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

No "welcome user" action

Btw: there is a line called "approval" in the access control section of the Config, the parameter value is "false" at this time. What does this line control? Another line, "require-time" (which ist valued "0" at this time) controls the time of being registered user, I guess? If we would like to give Huggle rights only to users that are registered users since e. g. 6 months, which value should this parameter have? There's no read only mode, but if you don't fulfill the requirements, you can't login. Here I posted, which parameters are currently supported in HG3, this list ist still up to date. Generally what the params mean:

• Approval: all users must be (white)listed on a page
• require config: requires the personal huggle.css/huggle3.css with enable:true to be present. Also plays together with admins removeing+protecting a users personal config.

Blocking an IP user using Huggle in dewiki produces a talk page containing a headline with the text which is assigned to the "block-summary" parameter in the admin section of de:Wikipedia:Huggle/Config. If we leave this parameter blank, Huggle produces a blank talk page. I just updated Huggle to 3.1.5, and now after I'd been (or at least I thought I was) Huggling for a while, I checked my contribs, only to find that I didn't have any reverts. Do you see anything in the edits widget? That shows all changes you made to pages using huggle. When you revert a page, it will not be reverted unless you can see it in there, in that case some error message would be in logs. I have the same issue, but only when Huggle has crashed. After a crash, I need to log in again of course, but no reverts are possible at this time (no actions at all to be exact). No, I meant the logs from "system logs" window, which is right next to processes in default layout, you should probably use pastebin instead of wikipedia to paste these, just in case there were some private information in logs, so that you can delete them. 2.1.2.6 option to always ignore a particular user

Could there be an option in 2.1.2.6 to ignore a particular user (such as a bot) that is kept across sessions, as we can set our configuration to ignore a certain page? Sometimes when I revert I'm a fraction of a second behind ClueBot, and I end up reverting it and sending it a warning. This is extremely frustrating because I have to go back and fix it, and then ClueBot shows up as [1] in my warning log unless I restart the application. This is pretty much what whitelist is for. By default all users on it are ignored and Cluebot is there. It's not that huggle 2 wouldn't ignore it, but it uses quite a weird unpredictable mechanism to display always latest revision of an article, that I gladly replaced in huggle 3 with that "Hold your fire" image, which prevents you doing accidental reverts of someone else. In addition huggle 3 is not easily allowing to revert whitelisted users even if you want to. I strongly recommend you to upgrade. Petrb (talk) 14:21, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

My client seems to fail using HTTPS

Recently i got a Mac and decided i wanted to 'Huggle' on it. But anytime i try and use HTTPS to login normally it fails to login. It works fine on my PC. Not too sure what it could be. Lor^Chat 05:03, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Macs are expensive and huggle is open source. We got no money from it so I am not willing to purchase any Mac just to debug this, neither Apple offers to developers any free virtual machine. • Linux: Hardware - virtual box $0 + OS $0 = $0
• Windows: Hardware - virtual box $0 + OS from $70 = $70

Listed prices are still getting lot of bids, I doubt any of those would sell under $100 unless it's for parts and broken. Most of them sell for more than $250 + shipping and VAT around $100+ to EU. I see, it's a little bug, I forgot to check both underscore and spaces, you are logging to huggle as Vitor_Mazuco, but on approval page you are as Vitor Mazuco. You need to change that approval page to Vitor_Mazuco for this to work. In 3.1.7 this is fixed, I sent a beta version of 3.1.6, but nobody apparently tried it, otherwise this would be discovered before releaser Petrb (talk) 23:14, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Can't login with 3.1.5 on Mac

For the record, I've always been able to login over HTTPS. All has been fine until the 3.1.5 update. I type my credentials and hit login, the window pops up where it would normally say "Logging into enwiki", etc, then it very quickly disappears, the password field is blanked and it's as if I hadn't even tried to log in. Yes, we are releasing Mac version much later than linux & windows. It takes more time to build them, for example right now latest is 3.1.6 but there is no build for Mac yet. However I have no idea what is causing this. I kind of believe it's some build issue. I finally reached some mac machine and when I compiled huggle from source, I could use it without problem even with SSL. When I downloaded our package we have in downloads, it didn't work just as you described, which makes me feel there is some problem with our builds. If you however build it yourself it will work fine, it's not that hard, if you have homebrew it's pretty much all about:

brew install git cmake qt
git clone http://github.com/huggle/huggle3-qt-lx huggle
cd huggle
git checkout 3.1.6
cd huggle
./configure
cd huggle_release
make
./huggle

Can't use 2.1.24

Huggle v. 2.1.24 is my favorite version of Huggle. I use it all the time to revert edits. But it seems I've been having some trouble logging into it lately. Whenever I attempt to log it, the loading bar begins, but the process suddenly halts and the text below the buttons says: "Failed to load global configuration page. Formatting of continuation data will be changing soon. To continue using" and it just stops right there. I try multiple times and it keeps giving me the same message. Updater problem

Hi,

There is a bug in huggle updater that causes it to fail update of huggle if you installed it to path with spaces, which "Program Files" is by default. In case you have installed huggle there, you will need to download last version by hand. This bug will be fixed in 3.1.9, so for next version you will have to download by hand as well. Scaling issues

I tried installing Huggle onto my laptop (Asus UX303LN) but unfortunately, due to the high resolution I could not see anything on Huggle. My screen's resolution is 3200 x 1800 with 13 inches. Many new laptops I have seen in shops ship with high-DPI screens. As a suggestion, maybe Huggle could be optimized for high DPI screens? pcfan500 (talk) 02:25, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Is it the size of the text that's the issue? Or everything? Because the default text size is only 8, which is very small, but that can be amended via the "System" --> "Options" tab, and going through to "Interface".

Default size is much more than 8 but it used to be 8 in old version of huggle so if you had used huggle before it might be 8 now and may need to be changed, some screenshot might help. Petrb (talk) 13:54, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Trouble getting 3.1.7 running

Hi all,

I've been running into difficulty initiating Huggle 3.1.7 on either of my two computers (which both run on Windows 7). When I try to start it up, it checks off every item on the pre-start screen except for "checking user info on enwiki," at which point it stalls eternally. Could there be something wrong with my user info that is causing difficulty with loading Huggle 3.1.7? Is there something at User:Dylan620/huggle.css that could be the problem? By "eternally" you mean how long? There is one bug with that windows and that is, the last item never really get checked off, once it's finished a mainwindow starts loading and that "freezes" the process for a while. If you don't have access to IRC ports, then 2 timeouts will stack to the freeze time and each of them is around 30 seconds, so it may take more than a minute for huggle to load up in that case. Please update your huggle

I've been checking http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/updater/updates.txt and I noticed that there is huge number of people that still uses very obsolete huggle versions, such as beta version more than year old (3.0.0.0). Last old version 3.1.8 even contains significant performance bug, so I recommend you running 3.1.9 or at least 3.1.5 if you are on Mac. Shoudn't Huggle be tagging pages with G7 if the author blanks the page?

Recently on Huggle I saw an edit in which a user blanked a page so I reverted it. I then went to the page history and found out that the person who blanked the page was the creator of that page. In previous versions of Huggle (before Huggle 3) when I reverted blankings by the page creator it asked me that I should tag the page with G7 instead, but it doesn't now. Can we add a cancel button to the bit where it asks if the page should be tagged with G7, because if someone would want to cancel it after it asks, they have no option but to choose yes or no, and choosing no reverts the edit which I am sure is not what was intended to happen. Level 4 warning

The level 4 warning that Huggle gives appears to be ignoring the generic level 4 warning template (see User talk:195.171.32.169‎, I added a generic warning with Twinkle and Huggle didn't see it so it added another level 4 warning) MadGuy7023 (talk) 22:02, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

Something else appears to be wrong as well. If you look at the history of User talk:130.43.83.109 I gave a level 1 and Level 2 warning about factual errors with Twinkle and then tried to give a level 3 warning with Huggle but it gave a level 1 warning instead. There is warning parser in huggle that takes the data from config: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Huggle/Config#Warning if there is no definition for these templates, huggle can't possibly recognize them on the talk page and ignores them. Underscores

I can look into it but I am querying the API not the wikipages, so the whole underscore thing might not behave like it does on wiki. Considering how many years the bot has been running without issue I would not consider this a bug in the bot, it was never designed to interpret every form of wiki markup. HUGGLE Issues

I've been using the latest legacy HUGGLE (2.1.26) since March 7, IIRC, a couple days after I became heavily active again (March 5) because the new one is personally not very user friendly and I couldn't figure it out. The legacy version has been fine for me until today. If I hit the revert and warn button, it doesn't indicate that it did anything in the feed window at the bottom and you have to view your contributions to see that it did indeed perform the action; furthermore, it only reverts the edit and I have to manually press just the warn button to warn the user.

Is anyone else experiencing this today? For now, I'm just using TWINKLE. - Amaury (talk) 00:24, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi, it would be useful if you told us exactly what you couldn't figure out on latest huggle. There is even option in preferences that makes it behave same as old huggle version. It works pretty much same as previous version. The major difference is that new version has different icons and some extra items in basic layout (which can be changed to look more like old version or even removed). Huggle 3 works the same as previous version, you just hit Q and it revert the edit and issue the warning. For example this is huggle 3 configured in legacy layout and it looks just the same as previous version, with same shortcuts and functions:

There isn't really anything complex on it, when you see vandalism, you can use any of the buttons or shortcuts to revert it. You can also keep some of new windows (which are not in older huggle) like history of changes you made with huggle, that display results of attempted reverts and so on. So you can always know if edit was reverted or not, even without having to stay on it. Huggle3 has optional automatic conflict resolution, so in some cases, when edit was for example already reverted by someone else, it doesn't even pop up any message with error and skip to next edit, but this information is always in logs. Looking at it here, it seems simple. I didn't know you could make it look and behave like the old HUGGLE, and I think that's what was confusing me as well as the new interface like the icons. Issue with edit summaries

Sometimes, when reverting edits (mainly good faith ones), Huggle doesn't put "talk" in parenthesis. For example, it says "Reverted good faith edits by Example talk" rather than "Reverted good faith edits by Example (talk)". Can you fix this please? --ToonLucas22 (talk) 21:03, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Huggle artwork group

I'm looking to do some open solicitation regarding the artwork for Huggle, while I did redo the icon to fit in better with the general aesthetic of the HG3/WMF icons I feel there could be more done. For instance there is the low contrast for some of the toolbar buttons if you're using a dark grey UI like on Linux and/or OS X and we do still need a new logo to replace the old one. I'm open to making a coordination board (if one is needed) if we get more than one person (i.e. me) on board for it. I never wished to be some kind of ultimate ruler of the huggle project, I just became one of people with powers to manage the repositories (someone has to do that, it used to be Gurch, now it's me and Addshore), beside that, I am pretty much equal to anyone else who was ever affiliated with Huggle project. If you wish to setup some design team that would handle the graphics, you are most welcome to do that. I can't do graphics so I probably wouldn't join it. But keep in mind that huggle is rather a small project with only few contributors, so you shouldn't have large expectations here. If there is anything particular you wish to change, you can do that right away, there is no need to wait for more people to join the team. I welcome the idea. Don't worry, I'm not asking if you can help directly in that space, I'm just seeing if you think it's a good idea and where I could start like in terms of if I need a page like this one or not. I've never run something like this and while you haven't either it'd still be nice to know you have my back because it is your project these days because it's so small in terms of involved people and you are the most prominent person involved, while it'd be great if it was less hierarchical and people just helped out where possible I think it's an issue of scale and if the group is small enough one person ends up shouldering everything even if it's a communal effort. I imagine there's people interested (I hope) in helping, I don't have too great of expectations really and hopefully we can work on improving things, just need a home. Huggle for 64bit

I released 64 bit version of huggle 3.1.10 for 64 bit windows, you may want to try it out as it's significantly faster and surprisingly uses more than 3 times less RAM for yet unknown reasons (it may be related to that it's being built with Visual Studio instead of GNU compiler). Thanks for this. I had to source and download 64-bit copies of msvcp120.dll and msvcr120.dll to get this version working on my copy of Win 7. (I guess this is because I don't have MS Visual Studio 2013 installed.) Once these two files are placed in the program folder, the program runs, and it does indeed run very fast! Yes I forgot to add you need http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784 installed as well to run it. Regarding the layout, there is no button that automatically does this, you can just close the extra widgets and open editbar widget and huggle would look like on screenshot, you can enable huggle2 behaviour in preferences (first sheet). {{uw-advert}} templates

Hi! I was wondering if it would be possible (or if its been discussed before) to add the series of uw-advert templates to Huggle as a drop down option in the Revert/Warn and Warn option menus. Further, if Huggle can recognize these warning templates when they are already placed on a user's talk page and escalate to a higher level warning template when a previous one is in place. Currently, Huggle only has the {{uw-spam}} templates which are specifically for external link policy violations, rather than general advertising by text in the article. Currently, when I come across this type of behavior, I use Huggle to revert the edit but then I manually open the user's talk page and issue a uw-advert warning. The problem with that is, Huggle doesn't seem to recognize these templates as warning templates and won't flag the user accordingly as having already received warnings in the past. Yes these are in WP:HGC to add a new template you need to invent a name (advert?) which users would see in drop down, then edit summary huggle would use when rolling back the edit and template that is preferably huggle compatible (huggle can use standard templates as well, but it support some features like precise diff id etc which normal templates don't contain). In order to make it recognize the template, you need to add template magic, which is any unique, but always identical part of a template. Most of templates contain comment like <!-- Template:UwX --> which is usually the best thing to identify template by robots. Petrb (talk) 15:52, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

@Petrb: Thanks for the info! I've put a version of the warning section of WP:HGC in my personal sandbox with some changes to add the {{uw-advert}} series of templates. Important update instruction for Windows x86 (32 bit) version

If you are upgrading from 3.1.10 or older to 3.1.11 on windows (32 bit) you will have to make sure that previous version gets purged from hard drive, e.g. there must be no folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Huggle. New build of huggle is being built with Visual Studio, while previous versions were built using GNU GCC compiler for windows (known as MinGW), which uses incompatible libraries (and doesn't need few of them). If you fail to do this, installer will overwrite all libraries, but leave few libraries needed only by version compiled with GNU GCC, which would be loaded anyway and huggle will crash. 3.1.10 on OSX

Low-res interface

MusikAnimal has a Mac with a Retina Display which has a much higher PPI than a standard display. This means that while elements like PNGs used for the UI which don't have a @2x sized resource end up blurry, it shouldn't apply to the entire UI unless the user specifies for it to render at 72PPI. I'm just going to suppose it's a Qt4 issue and unless you have a display capable of outputting ~220 PPI (and if your Mac mini can output that resolution) then it'll be hard for you to test. tutterMouse (talk) 12:13, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

However I did notice on the first attempted action I was prompted to re-enter my password. I assume this is to combat the "invalid token" issue some users were having? Something I'm not sure you were aware of: when that issue happened to me, I would simply hit Back to go back to the edit I attempted to revert, hit revert again, and it would work. To answer other 2 things: about form stands for "about dialog", form is often used, especially in visual studio environment, as a term used for all kinds of dialogs and widgets. Level 4 warning detection

A more serious issue with all the above builds of 3.1.11, Huggle seems to incorrectly think that the user has received a level 4 warning. So I'll go to revert, and get the prompt about the level 4 warning, and for me that means it's time to block. So I'll open up the users' contributions, only to find they had not received a level 4 warning, and sometimes no warning at all. I tried the public release build of 3.1.10 again to test it out and I don't think it has this issue. It is difficult to say however as it does not happen with every revert. 3.1.6 definitely did not have that issue. — MusikAnimal ^talk 16:43, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

I think I can confirm that 3.1.10 does not exert this misbehaviour. However there are other apparent bugs :( First, whenever I get a talk page message I am no longer able to use Alt+M to show it within Huggle. If I check the talk page on-wiki then return to Huggle, the talk page notice will go away. Secondly, I don't seem to be able to revert as anything other than the generic vandalism. I haven't tried them all, but when I tried to revert as "removal of content" or "editing tests" nothing happens. No output in the Processes window. Shortcut to display talk page can be changed in preferences, it also is in system menu (System -> My talk page). It works to me (but I changed this long time ago just to X in my options). It seems that Macs don't have alt key? Because all shortcuts that use alt display some weird symbol in menu instead that I don't have on my keyboard. To me, all types of reverts work OK (on all systems). Did you try picking it from pop up list? On Mac alt is the same as option, which can be represented as ⌥. This used to work fine but doesn't anymore. I went to the settings and changed it to Ctrl+M (which maps to ⌘ Command+M and all is well now. If it's feasible to do so I recommend making this the default for Mac users, though I imagine you probably avoid having any conditionals based on the operating system.

About the other types of reverts... still not working :( If by "pop up menu" you mean the menu displayed when holding down the Revert button, then no that does not work. Do the shortcuts work in Qt4 version I sent here before? There is no other way to revert using different revert type than from the pop up menu (the menu shows up when you click the arrow next to icon). Can you describe "doesn't work"? 3.1.6 is what I was using beforehand and all works fine there. I'm seeing the issue with all of the 3.1.10 and 3.1.11 builds. I am able to click on the arrow to reveal the pop up menu. From there I'll click on one of the revert options, the pop up menu will close as expected, but no action is taken. I don't see anything in the "Processes" window at the bottom, where it would normally report it is making the revert. Yes, there is a widget called "system logs" it's normally a tab in same area as processes widget. It contains lots of useful information about what is going on in huggle. It is also possible to start huggle in debug mode, you can do that from terminal, assuming huggle in installed you would do something like

/Applications/huggle.app/Contents/MacOS/huggle -vvv

to start it in 3x verbose mode. More v's, more verbose it is. Getting over 8 would make it so verbose that system log probably become unreadable though. To be honest, I didn't test if these menus work on Mac, because I have all actions in these menus bound on keyboard, and that works to me on mac mini with regular windows keyboard. I figured it out. On older version (3.1.6 and below) you had to click and hold down the arrow to access the menu, then release the mouse to activate a click on that menu option. Now you simply click twice, once to show the menu, second to choose the option. I had simply gotten used to the old way of doing it. I suspect other Mac users will be equally as confused, but anyway the two-click operation is preferable over the old method. Sounds like whatever change to make this happen was unintentional, but it's a good change nonetheless :) I think we're all good now with 3.1.11. I'll let you know if I have any other issues. 3.1.11 not working on XP 32 bit

Just installed 3.1.11 for Windows (not the 64bit edition) on an XP SP3 (32bit) system, into a dropbox folder, just like I used to install previous versions. After installation, running it on XP, it tells me that huggle.exe is not a valid Win32 application. From the same dropbox folder it does however work on a 64 bit Windows 8.1 without a problem.

As was suggested above, I explicitly uninstalled the previous version 3.1.8 and removed the remains of the dropbox map into which it was installed. By the way, there never was a C:\Program Files (x86)\Huggle folder, as this is XP 32-bit. Have I missed something else? - DVdm (talk) 11:28, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Yes, this is a bug in mediawiki that was repeatedly reported and ignore and resolved as WONTFIX. Mediawiki randomly generates invalid tokens and that sometimes requires to login once more, even after successful login. My revert is a possible Vandalism??

It was alright when I started using it until recently a new problem sprung up! After reverting a edit which might be an AGF/Vandal, the revert which I just made is showing up as the next possible vandalism (It wants me to review my edit... That's really annoying).. OK, the edits that display in queue need to pass the queue filter, I don't know which queue filter you currently have active but it probably doesn't ignore your own edits, as well as whitelisted users (you are both if you are in huggle). This version of huggle (which is rather old) doesn't split diff into new text and old text and for this reason it doesn't know if score-words (words that affect the score of edit) were added or removed (edits that contain lot of score words have very high scores and go to top of queue). If you revert edit which contains lot of score words, the resulting edit may have very high score as well (in this version). Solution is either switch to some queue filter that filters out your own edits (like default) or upgrade to latest huggle version. Petrb (talk) 09:34, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

I tried to simulate your config and it seems to me that you enabled huggle2 mode, that means when you revert an edit, instead of going to next vandalism it waits for revert to happen and then it display it for you to review. If you don't want to view your reverts after you do them, open preferences of huggle and in Performance tab change "When you revert or change a displayed edit" to "Display next". huggle.exe - Entry Point Not Found

I was seeing occasional huggle crashes with the .8 version and was advised to upgrade to .11. I did that, and got this error. I downgraded version by version until I still got the error after re-downloading the .8 version and downgrading to that. Just today, I downloaded the .12 version, and still get the error. The exact error I'm getting is "The procedure entry point _Z10noshowbaseR11QTTextStream could not be located in the dynamic link library Qt5Core.dll." Hello, per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Huggle/Feedback#Important_update_instruction_for_Windows_x86_.2832_bit.29_version please purge the old huggle (uninstall it, then delete leftovers from 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Huggle'). Then it should be possible to install last version, or if you have 64 bit OS I recommend you downloading 64bit version of huggle which is much faster and doesn't suffer from this upgrade bug. Thanks. I had not seen that. That solved my problem. I did have a minor glitch caused by my following your instructions too literally. The 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Huggle' folder wasn't present and I had not removed anything. When I tried again and removed the 'C:\Program Files\Huggle' folder, it worked. Only Warning, or selecting what level warning to give

Can't find this anywhere on Huggle3, or in the manual - you used to be able to either select what level warning you were giving (rather than automatic) or issue a 4im (this is your only warning) template.

I am getting lots of error messages. Huggle sort of seems to be working.

• Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, service pack 1 Dell XPS8700 8GB
• Huggle Version: 3.1.12 build: 2563 3.1.12-1-ga0be145 without python support, compiled using QT 5.4.1 Running on QT 5.4.1

I have uninstalled, deleted Huggle folders from C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86). Then reinstalled huggle_3.1.12_x64.exe

Wiki provider isn't very fast and uses lots of connection - it basically keeps downloading recent changes like every 5 seconds. Maybe try IRC provider instead? I am kind of curious if you would see the same problem with that one... But it's quite possible that this is caused by some labs network issues. RC stream is pretty much a beta feature so huggle is kind of a guinea pig here :P you can always switch back to old IRC provider. Petrb (talk) 09:57, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Diff not showing

Sorry if this is a repeat... Today about one out of every five or so edits don't show the diff in the interface. It will show the edit summary and the size, followed by "true" or "false", then where the body of the diff should be shown it is completely blank. Huggle adds strang letters when reverting

I use (Version: 3.1.12), sometimes (not always) when I press (Revert) it makes the revert, and changes (a letter) to two strange letters (��), look at this "example".

Huggle Not Responding

For the past few hours, whenever I log into Huggle, it refuses to connect to HAN for a few minutes. Once it connects however, it freezes and I have to open Task Manager to kill it. I'm using Windows 8.1 x64. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 14:51, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello! Let's have a look in this. It definitely shouldn't be because of rollback because if it was then you would see exactly that in error message and not something regarding the global config. It looks to me that it just has problem with what it says: it can't download the global config. I am suspecting this could be because of the https everywhere restriction which WMF deployed recently, enforcing everyone to use https. Can you try checking Use HTTPS in login form? Then try to reproduce this issue, after that when you close huggle there should be a file in your documents folder called just huggle.log. @Petrb I tried changing GlobalConfigurationWikiAddress from meta.wikimedia.org/w/ to meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/ and back to /w/ and it still didn't work.

Can you also run huggle with --qd parameter? That will create "querydump.dat" file which contains raw traffic which is sent to servers, you better review it and check if there isn't your password somewhere before posting the contents. Petrb (talk) 07:29, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

• Reverts: When I revert something, it just displays Reverted edits by X (talk) (HG) (3.1.13). Is it possible to remove the version and re-add the "to last revision by X" like in Huggle 2? So I'm getting a threat notification on Huggle 3 as well now. Something about IDP.ALEXA.42. I ignored it this time. I think it's the creator of Huggle. Petrb is the creator, but I assume what I mentioned above is harmless. What threat?? Makes no sense to me. Regarding the 3 things you mentioned:

• Reverts: I will look in that, it should be same as it's in config, so that can be fixed, regarding the version information - it can't be removed from the revert message (we decided based on negative feedback for huggle on this years hackathon) to keep better track of version people use. I believe that lot of negative feedback huggle keeps receiving is related to people who use ancient versions of huggle, that make it extremely easy to revert things by mistake and thanks to this we know exactly which huggle version was used to revert which edit. So if we receive a complain about wrong revert done by huggle I can at least point out it's caused by the old version.
• Size changes: That probably need a fix, I suppose it's because the size information comes from RC feed while the diff itself comes from API, which don't easily provide the size information.
• This is a bug which other people reports as well and I have no idea why is that, I can't reproduce it. Which OS you have? I suppose you are running 64 bit huggle version for windows? Petrb (talk) 14:57, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

(edit conflict) @Petrb: Basically, AVG was detecting that Huggle contained malware, but it never did before. After all these years, I uninstalled AVG yesterday and am trying something different: Microsoft Security Essentials. We'll see if that detects anything when I install Huggle 3 again later. And I just saw your edit because of the EC, so I guess it was safe to ignore it. Perhaps it was false-positive. :)

The reason why it doesn't tell to which revision is reverted is because it doesn't know it. Huggle would need to guess it, but even though it wouldn't be super reliable, it's mediawiki which performs the rollback, not huggle. Petrb (talk) 18:10, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Is there a way to hit a button and have a vandal warned with 4im directly from HG? Because wp:STiki has that feature, and I feel like it might be a good thing to have that button. Huggle automatically marks a revert as minor?

Should a revert ever be marked as minor, really? I came across one, asked the editor about it, and they said Huggle had automatically marked it as minor. It was a removal of a full sentence of content that could easily have been a good-faith though unsourced edit. To be fair, I think that this is mediawiki feature. Everytime you use rollback feature the edit is marked as minor by default. It doesn't matter which tool you use for it. Huggle adds strange letters when reverting

I use (Version: 3.1.12), sometimes (not always) when I press (Revert) it makes the revert, and changes (a letter) to two strange letters (��), look at this "example".

There is very little I can about this, when I try to do exactly same revert it's OK. Therefore I am not able to simulate this issue, which makes it nearly impossible to fix. You can try to run huggle with --qd parameters and send me a querydump so that I can't at least check if the data were corrupted since it received the diff or if it was corrupted during processing. But even that wouldn't get me very close.

Can you give me your OS and locale settings? What version of huggle is this if it's a Windows version (x64/x86/mingw)? Petrb (talk) 11:23, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

kowiki errors

When I revert edits on kowiki, Huggle keeps turning it into completely unrelated pages. (Example: Undoing an edit on the kowiki version of Java (programming language) turns it into the enwiki version of Wikipedia.) -Dakar 06:45, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

I can't reproduce this bug, I tried to revert last edit to Java which is redirect and it properly attempted to revert it to last version of what you had there in your language. Are you using huggle on multiple projects simultaneously? In that case the queue would contain edits made to all wikis you logged to and would dynamically switch between them. That means if you reverted edit made to kowiki it might just jump to next edit that could be made to enwiki. I don't think it would take data from enwiki and write them to kowiki, can you give me a link to revert you talk about so that I can see what happened? Petrb (talk) 12:09, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

Huggle scoring fails?

Problems after huggle_3.1.16 install

I installed huggle_3.1.16 on my Win7 system. When I try to run it, I get a "missing shortcut" error. Checking, I see that c:/program files/huggle/huggle.exe does not exist.

I've installed huggle_3.1.16 numerous times. Fir this latest install, I ran the uninstall (the uninstaller does exist), manually removed the c:/program files/huggle/ folder and then installed from that starting point. Same results.

I downloaded the installer for 3.1.15 and tried that. with the same results -- silent failure to install the huggle.exe.

Is that 64bit system? If so, check if there isn't something in Program Files (x86), which version are you downloading (MSVC/64 bit MSVC/mingw32), can you see any errors produced by the installer? Could Huggle help us fight linkspam, please?

Linkspam is getting way more pervasive, and reverting it is tedious and difficult. I had an idea for a Huggle feature that could help us fight linkspam more effectively, and I'm wondering if something like this might be possible:

Idea: If an edit is reverted using Huggle's "General advertising or promotion" tag, Huggle could check the diff for any URLs that were removed, then add the removed URLs to its own internal blacklist, and then tag any edits that try to re-insert those URLs anywhere, adding them to the queue for human vandalfighters to check and marking them as possible linkspam. Links could be removed from the blacklist if enough edits containing them are marked as good edits.

Hi the Huggle is not loading since yesterday. I don't know why. I even tried uninstalling and installing again. Huggle gave out four level one warnings instead of escalating warnings

Explanation is simple: parser get the level using tags defined at warning-template-tags section of project configuration. The level 4 warnings that weren't followed probably didn't contain any of these strings, so they weren't recognized. Can you link me to talk page in question? Huggle whitelist not working

I have Huggle version: 3.1.18 build: 2740 3.1.18 on Windows 7 pro 64. With Huggle, I tagged two (or more) articles with a speedy 1 2 to a well-established user Terlob (t·c) with autopatrolled rights. With Huggle .18, I db-spam-ed Institute of Taxation Management. This was created and edited once by Imranzuberi (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), edited by an admin(?), and twice by 39.57.57.250 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log).
