old anime? edit

Ugh, I have asked this question twice, but got no reply, so here it is again. Around 2003 or 2004 I saw in Cartoon Network (Philippines) an anime (I know because the staff's names were Japanese). I remember that episode this boy is waken up in the night by his friend's spirit, he was looking forward to play with him, but the next day he learns that his friend is dead. The quote was something like "is not going to be around anymore, [name of character] is dead". Then it showed the boy going to his friend's bed, seeing him dead. Then it showed the friend's funeral, and a relative was about to put the lid on the coffin. Then showed a flashback. I would like to know if anyone here in the Reference Desk knows this anime, as I have long wanted to know the name of the anime and I had asked this twice here before without an answer. So please can someone find this anime? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 03:48, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If no one answered last time, it is possible no one actually knows the answer. Perhaps you could try contacting Cartoon Network (Philippines) directly - here is their website: http://www.cartoonnetwork.com.ph/ Astronaut (talk) 16:41, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I don't feel like contacting CN because I doubt they will reply and I also think they don't know the name of the show.Maybe if someone has the schedules from 2002 to 2006, maybe it is here. Also the dead friend's name sounded like "Father Wing". I searched for the quote I mentioned, but nothing. It must be a really obscure anime, but maybe Anime News Network may know. Thanks. It sounds like a TV series from the 80s called "The Yearling" (1983) "Kojika monogatari" (original title). It was based on a book of the same name. It effected me profoundly when I watched it as a pre-teen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.134.33.189 (talk) 15:01, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Farting, sneezing, and burping live on camera or on stage edit

These unplanned things happen to oneself from time to time in real life. Why do they never seem to happen to people live on camera or on stage? 92.15.15.76 (talk) 11:06, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm sure it does happen sometimes, it happened sometimes on news reports, the farts (if any) were probably not loud enough for people to hear, and the smell may have not been so bad. I have seen some examples of farting live, I just can't remember which. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 11:15, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For a planned version, see Flatulist. There is/was more than one, apparently! Ghmyrtle (talk) 11:53, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Tiger Woods did that last year (maybe) (Googling for "Tiger Woods fart" will give you lots of videos etc). Adam Bishop (talk) 13:12, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A search of YouTube for the phrase "news anchor fart" brings up many results. I would suspect that sneeze and burp would as well. Dismas|(talk) 16:19, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Once during the taping of Dick Cavett's talk show, one of the guests died. Michael Hardy (talk) 13:54, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shockingly, our article on Melvin Purvis wastes a lot of time on his status as one of the top G-men of all time and gives nary a mention to his try true claim to fame in being the first person to belch on American radio. I can't find a good reference (yet), but the blurbs here and here sum it up. Matt Deres (talk) 22:17, 28 June 2010 (UTC) I've seen loads of clips on Youtube of people doing just these things.23:09, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I bought a PS2 at a car boot sale. It runs a dvd OK. It has 2 control paddles, a camera, 2 games and no memory cards. The game shows "PS2 ..... playstation 2 disc" a bright throbbing circle in the middle and below that "X enter" or "O back". Enter and back don't work. What have I done wrongly? Kittybrewster 11:10, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried moving the left analogue stick (the joystick on the left)? It's been a good 5 years since I used a PS2 but I think you need to 'highlight' the disc and click 'x' to make the game load (you'll know it's highlighted as as you move the left analogue stick it'll light-up the option/pointer that is selected. ny156uk (talk) 21:17, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried getting something / anything to move on the screen and nothing does. Kittybrewster 12:50, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Name of a short story? edit

I remember reading a short story one time about a conman who travels around selling a type of glue which is very strong and secure for a certain time period, at the end of which it fails completely (by which time, of course, the conman is long gone). In any case one town he visits has a professor who is very impressed by his product and invites him to try out his marvellous new invention, a small box which straps to the wrist and gives one the gift of flight. Inevitably, of course, it turns out that the conman's device was constructed using the very glue he was purveying. What was this story called and who was it buy? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.96.113.87 (talk) 12:39, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Also, how did I manage to put 'buy', what's my friggin' problem? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.96.113.87 (talk) 13:08, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This happens to me all the time at the reference desks. Granted, I'm not a native speaker but I should no better. There it is: '"no" for "know" is one of my classics. In my case, I suspect it has to do with the fact that I speak English more often than I write it, and what we write here is often held in a colloquial tone. Sloppy brain. (I won't venture into projecting a Freudian slip into your lapse :) ---Sluzzelin talk 21:49, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Reminds me of an old episode of Gilligan's Island.

Instrumental song edit

I need help finding a song. It's a 70's/80's disco/ska song in 4/4 time. The main notes are: C C C G G G E♭ D E♭D. What's the name of the artist and song? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.41.243.16 (talk) 12:57, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Random Man in Man Utd Squad(?) Photo edit

A few years ago there was a case of a random guy sneaking into official Man Utd photo sessions, tried to find more online but can't seem to find anything. He was some guy who somehow got into an official squad photo (pretty sure it was that) and a few other things to, he managed to do the same sort of a thing a few times if that helps. Anybody? ny156uk (talk) 21:05, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, found it - a guy called Karl Power apparently. ny156uk (talk) 21:57, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicated national anthems edit

When Northern Ireland play England in soccer, is God Save the Queen played twice? Are there any other sporting nations that share a national anthem, where the same tune would be played twice to represent each one individually? Stanstaple (talk) 23:41, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to Northern_ireland#Symbols_used_in_Northern_Ireland, the national anthem played at most events is God Save the Queen, but in the context of the Commonwealth Games they use "Londonderry Air" (aka "Danny Boy"). Presumably, they could use that instead of GSTQ. --Jayron32 03:04, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And according to God Save the Queen, the tune is played twice when England or Northern Ireland play another country at football who use the same tune, but only once when England play Northern Ireland. 86.164.57.20 (talk) 16:49, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd missed that section of the article. Thanks. Stanstaple (talk) 22:35, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
