Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/CXT/Pages to review/Clobbers

Editors are invited to find articles over-written by CXT that are not subject to deletion by X2.

This page exists to make it easier for editors to find pre-existing articles that were over-written by Content Translation tool (CXT), and should not be deleted in the X2 mass delete operation.

Background

edit

What happened: why this list?

edit

A misconfig in CXT in 2016 allowed users to flood Wikipedia for a time with machine translations of articles from other Wikipedias, until the config was corrected. This left a backlog of 3,602 suspect articles generated by the tool that may be of very poor quality, and not deserving of remaining in the encyclopedia. The list of 3,602 can be found at WP:CXT/PTR, and editors have been evaluating them to see which ones should be kept. By definition, only articles in the list of 3,602 are subject to X2 deletion, and even then only after examination of their quality. Anything not on the list is excluded from X2.

However, it turns out that the db report that created the list of 3,602 articles included about 250 articles that did not belong there in the first place, and thus are not subject to X2 deletion. The purpose of this page is to facilitate finding and inoculating those articles on the WP:CXT/PTR list. The articles are there by mistake, thus there is no need to read the article and evaluate its quality, they must be protected from X2 deletion ipso facto and it's completely unnecessary to read and evaluate the articles in question; merely to find them, and mark them, regardless of quality. (These articles, like any article, are subject to normal deletion procedures, however, they are not subject to X2.)

Why aren't these articles deleteable under X2?

edit

This list of 250 represents articles that already existed before, in some cases for many years, which were then overwritten (clobbered) by CXT. In some cases, especially articles that were popular enough to have watchers, alert editors reverted the clobber, and the original article was restored. So everything is back to normal. Except, it's not: since this article appears on the longer list, it will be deleted, unless an alert editor happens to catch it and recognizes what happened so they can inoculate it against the mass delete.

In the case of less popular articles with few or no watchers, the clobber may never get reverted, and the original cxt clobber may still be present. On the surface, this article may look like a very poorly translated article, and thus a good candidate for deletion via X2. However, that is an illusion; in reality, the article existed already before it was clobbered by cxt, and should be reverted to restore the good article still in the revision history. These articles that were never reverted back after a clobber, should also be inoculated against the delete.

How to use this list

edit

Every article below which also appears on the list of 3,602 articles at WP:CXT/PTR should be protected against X2 deletion regardless of content.

This report shows articles in which the CXT tool overwrote a a pre-existing, manually created version (i.e, cxt clobbered a pre-existing article that was not tagged CXT). There's no implication about what happened afterward; the CXT clobber may have been reverted in minutes, later, or not at all.

Articles for which the cxt clobber was reverted, should be vaccinated against the X2 delete by applying strikeout type to the article name on the WP:CXT/PTR page. Please do not edit the list below for the purposes of "striking" an article here, as that will have no effect. All operations to save (or "kill") articles must be carried out at WP:CXT/PTR.

In principle, this list should be a subset of the list of 3,602, and had it been created the same day, it would be. However, this list was created a year after the original list of 3,602, so some entries here represent use of CXT after the misconfig was corrected, and thus won't appear in the longer list. Those entries can simply be ignored.

Sorted by title. Please ignore any subpage (articles containing a '/'). Strike articles below to indicate they are already done, and don't need attention.

 * If any of these articles appear at WP:CXT/PTR, please vaccinate them without regard to content: they are not subject to X2. (Strikeout here, means: these articles have already been dealt with at WP:CXT/PTR; no further attention to them is required.)
