Hey, Thanks for the message. Yes, I'm currently working in Kuwait right now, but I'm leaving in 3 weeks. I've decided that while I'm here, I'm should try and write as much as possible. And take photographs. About my user page, I'm just a little too busy/lazy/thoughtless about it right now.

Speedy Deletion? edit

Hey, I was going through the list of Candidates for Speedy Deletion this morning, and I noticed that you had marked List of cities in Kuwait for deletion. I didn't see any reason to delete it, so I removed the {{delete}} tag... but what was your reason for wanting it deleted in the first place? I mean, you're Kuwaiti yourself, right? DS 23:39, 13 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I've noticed how frustating it is for you to be the only one to be creating pages on Kuwait, and one person working on a country is not enough. I'm usually busy but I promise I'll try my very best to help you with that.

Terminus (band) edit

I noticed your comments on the AfD, and I also left a comment on the talk page for the article. Please review AfD for proper process regarding articles proposed for deletion, specifically your comment that you would "remove the AfD status within 72 hours if there is no objection by that time" in regards to demonstrating verifiability. AfD tags are not to be removed except by administrators and other removal could be considered vandalism. If you can show that there's some other way of verifying that Terminus is that integral a part of the Kuwaiti metal scene besides your own word, then I'd be more than willing to change my vote.  RasputinAXP  T C 08:27, 20 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Kuwait City edit

Hi, I reverted your edit deleting suburbs of Kuwait City. Kuwait is a suburb of what? A suburb is a small city dependant on a very close (proximity) city for economic reasons. Please understand I am not being argumentative, I just felt that was not a good explanation. I see you are from Kuwait? Maybe just rename that section "Kuwait City Neighborhoods" or something and leave the names? Shukran. Kirby 23:44, 31 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. Thanks for the awesome explanation. I spent quite a bit of time in Kuwait city and never knew that. But I still think the neighborhoods (or whatever) should still be included in the entry. Although, with that explanation, perhaps the entry itself needs an entire reworking? Anyway, thanks for not being offended. And have a Happy New Year!Kirby 03:26, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Darn! edit

Sorry about those articles. I'll remember to add categorizes the next time I write an article :-). How was Kuwait? I've seen you've done a good deal of research. I'm going to be there next Thursday. population of Kuwait edit

Hello,

I basically reverted your recent change to Kuwait about the population. PACI estimates that Kuwait's population in 2004 was 2.753 million, and as of June 2005 was 2.867 million [1]. The other estimates of Kuwait's population all seem to be from the CIA World Factbook. Some of the datapoints in its Kuwait article haven't been changed in 19 years! (like the ethnic group information).

Nice work on all the Kuwait articles. I see that you created a page for my old high school!

Thanks for the props. Kuwait seems great this time of year. Kind of quiet though, stayed up last night with friends organizing something. Prices seem inflated these days. --Ahmed 04:25, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Governorates edit

I've made some big changes on Governorates of Kuwait. Have a look, and fix anything you might think needs fixing. I've created a template: Template: Infobox GCC Governorate and applyed it to Kuwaiti governorates. I've done a bit on Governorates of Qatar. Have a look at them. Tell me what you think. Golbez has done all the maps with the highlighting. --Ahmed 03:05, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Looks good. I read the newspaper at the grocery store this morning. Seems the Sheikh Sabah is the Emir now. Apparently Official too, yet last night I was informed that at 6pm it was announced that Sheikh Saad is the official Emir and Sheikh Sabah isn't. Sooner or later we'll find out. Image copyright problem with Image:KU_coat_of_arms.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:KU_coat_of_arms.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 00:25, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Wysdom 08:57, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletions edit

Hi there :) Regarding the comment you left on my talk page (it's "ma'am", by the by, but that's neither here nor there): I don't do the deletes, I just tag things I come across as being possible cadidates for speedy deletion, or deletion, or needing this that or the other thing. Only admins can delete a page entirely, and they do so after reviewing the article themselves. The comment I left was for no reason more or less than to explain why I tagged it.

As for how notable the company is, notability isn't why I tagged it. It was a stub, it hadn't been sourced, and based on the amount of time it had gone without being sourced or improved, it didn't seem as though it was about to be. Furthermore, the bulk of the article was a blatant copyright violation.

The best way to make sure your articles aren't deleted, speedily or otherwise, is to add enough content to assert their relevance and then back up their notability with a variety of independent, verifiable sources. I'm not sure see what's "jumping the gun" about marking an unsourced stub that--other than the copyright violating stuff--hadn't been touched since January... Or by you, its creator, since February 2006.

Best regards,

Wysdom 16:37, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of Alarfaj edit

A tag has been placed on Alarfaj, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. aJCfreak yAkBaK 11:37, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Burgan logo.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Burgan logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Unspecified source for Image:NBK_Logo.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:NBK_Logo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:50, 22 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 16:50, 22 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ask logo.jpg} edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Ask logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. AfD nomination of Free Art Studio edit

I have nominated Free Art Studio, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Free Art Studio. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. flaminglawyer 01:15, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:KU coat of arms.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:KU coat of arms.jpg.

You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:37, 25 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary edit

Hi! Since you have a connection to Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 15:59, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:KSE.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:KSE.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 22:33, 6 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU (Aug 15) edit

Since you are one of the editors in the Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Carnegie Mellon University, I'd like to invite you to the Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop that will take place at CMU on Aug 15 (this workshop is open to general public, and is a joint imitative of CMU and Pitt). There will be another workshop held at Pitt in the Fall as well. It will cover how to include Wikipedia in one's course (WP:SUP) and also how to become a Wikipedia:Campus Ambassadors. Pennsylvania has currently only one ambassador (myself) and it would be great if we could recruit at least several more. Ambassadors help course instructors, showing them how Wikipedia works, and interact with students. Many current ambassadors come from the body of students, faculty and university staff; it is a fun adventure, and adds to one resume/CV, to boot :) If it sounds interesting, feel free to ask me any questions, or to come to the workshop.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:21, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of TagStone edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on TagStone requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. -- Orionisttalk 20:45, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
