Almost every other building list is called list of tallest buildings in... I've never seen an article listing only buildings first, then only having a small table at the bottom, list one place with four smokestacks, and being named as list of tallest structures in, not even buildings and structures in. Daniel Christensen (talk) 21:07, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Also I gave Tel Aviv it's own list, but it needs to be cut to only 120 meters or so because all the ones below that point are unreliable, as emporis does not even list them with respect to itself (comparing two of its lists). Daniel Christensen (talk) 21:11, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

AfDs

Hi. As you just participated in discussions on a closely related topic (also a current AfD re a Jewish list), which may raise some of the same issues, I'm simply mentioning that the following are currently ongoing: AfDs re lists of Jewish Nobel laureates, entertainers, inventors, actors, cartoonists, and heavy metal musicians. Dear Ynhockey, I read your comments on Michael Kühntopfs talkpage. His article is nominated for deletion and it takes place a very harsh deletion discussion. Aluf

As I have no intention to wage editing wars, I believe you would prefer to correct it yourself, after you have mistakenly reverted my correction: "corps" in IDF has nothing to do with air or sea, as you have noted, it is "גיס", and as such is headed by aluf, and not by tat-aluf. IDF has two corps, the first one is headed by Aluf Gershon HaCohen, the second one by Aluf Yishai Beer. For more in Hebrew see here. -- Prokurator11 (talk) 19:08, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I understand that "corps" can have another meaning, but in the specific context of the article this usage would not be correct. The article specifies which ranks correspond to holding commanding posts over specific military formations (and see he-iw there), such as battalion, brigade, division, branch etc. Unlike "gayis", "hayil" is not a military formation, it is rather a coordinating unit for certain military professions, hence in the specified context a reasonable reader should suppose that the word "corps" means a "gayis" formation. -- Prokurator11 (talk) 23:06, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2011 WikiCup!

Hello, happy new year and welcome to the 2011 WikiCup! Your submissions' page can be found here and instructions of how to update the page can be found here and on the submissions' page itself. From the submissions' page, a bot will update the main scoresheet. Our rules have been very slightly updated from last year; the full rules can be found here. Please remember that you can only receive points for content on which you have done significant work in 2011; nominations of work from last year and "drive-by" nominations will not be awarded points. Signups are going to remain open through January, so if you know of anyone who would like to take part, please direct them to Wikipedia:WikiCup/2011 signups. The judges can be contacted on the WikiCup talk page, on their respective talk pages, or by email. Other than that, we will be in contact at the end of every month with the newsletter. If you want to stop or start receiving newsletters, please remove your name from or add your name to this list. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 03:25, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Palestinians

You said: "in the context of the british mandate, palestinians were both jews and arabs", do you have a source for this? Answer here. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 10:36, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

The request is disingenuous. You can read any literature from that time and see for yourself. For example, the The Palestine Post or read about the Palestine national football team (the one during the mandate). —Ynhockey (Talk) 17:11, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
P.S. More sources can be found here. —Ynhockey (Talk) 17:13, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Did Jews (mainstream) in the mandate refer to themselves as Palestinians? Did they (mainstream) refer to their villages as Palestinian villages? --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 20:53, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
As far as I know, they did. Palestine was the one and only English name for the Hebrew word Eretz Yisra'el among Jews at the time. However, as the one seeking to implement a sweeping change, you should be the one providing sources. Do you have any sources that they didn't do these things? —Ynhockey (Talk) 23:09, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK

Hi Ynhockey, starting this year, if you already have 5 DYK credits then you need to review a hook in the T:TDYK queue before yours can be promoted to the main page. Could you review a hook and note which one you reviewed underneath your hook? Thanks SmartSE (talk) 11:41, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

"Пpoвеpяшнo"

In the old days we wrote "verified" after {{DYKtick}}, meaning that we'd verified the source and the other attributes of the article. So, in reviewing my first submitted hook in several years (I used to do it a lot before working on my book two years ago forced me to give it up because it was taking too much time), I used old terminology, and since I realized I'd have to make use of my Russian-language skills I decided to indicate my acceptance with that word, in that language. Bilu'im

This article should be moved to Bilu or BILU. It does not make sense to name an article of a group by how those in the group were called rather then then the actual name of the group. The move requires admin tools so I am turning to you. Thanks.--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 00:36, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Depopulation

Hi, to your question: Khalidi uses "depopulation" as a general term in the whole book (I do not have the hard-copy but I see excerpts online). I cannot check what words exactly he used for Dayr Rafat, except for "overrun". Benny Morris talks about expulsion (of some of the residents at least).

I used expelled as it is much more clear than "depopulated" ("To reduce sharply the population of, as by disease, war, or forcible relocation." - [1]) - it is too general and invokes imagination. In the case of Dayr (Deir) Rafat the only depopulation source claimed is expulsion: no epidemics, battles involving casualties, etc. are reported. So I thought it would be clearer this way.

If it's important to stick to the wording of the particular source cited, than it should be "depopulated". But I think this word is misleading for a lot of people (e.g., refer to Wikipedia's advise not to use the word "claim").

Maybe, a good rewording conveying the original meaning would be: "no residents remained in the village after the war". What do you think?

Proposed deletion of Seren (company)

The article Seren (company) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

non-notable company

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Oz Almog/removed images/copyrights

Dear Ynhockey, Due to illness I was unable to contribute much in improving the quality of article about Oz Almog, but you were really helpful and I appreciate it a lot. However, all the images from the page were removed yesterday due to Copyright issues... I hold the copyrights as it was stated: I personally photographed all the images that were uploaded on the page and I have permission by the author (i.e. Oz Almog) to use them freely on the web for non-commercial purposes. So, my declaration upon the copyrights was true and in full accordance with the law. If you need an additional confirmation, I will be glad to provide it... I would appreciate if the images are restored. Once again, many thanks for your effort to improve the quality of the page and apologies for my recent lack of activity. WikiCup 2011 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to   The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by   Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to   Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1,   Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and   Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!

A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! WikiCup 2011 February newsletter

So begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to   The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and   Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round.   Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to   Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to   Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.

Some news for those who are interested- March will see a GAN backlog elimination drive, which you are still free to join. Organised by WikiProject Good articles, the drive aims to minimise the GAN backlog and offers prizes to those who help out. Of course, you may well be able to claim WikiCup points for the articles you review as part of the drive. Also ongoing is the Great Backlog Drive, looking to work on clearing all of the backlogs on Wikipedia; again, incentives are offered, and the spirit of friendly competition is alive, while helping the encyclopedia is the ultimate aim. Though unrelated to the WikiCup, these may well be of interest to some of you.

Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on this page. For those interested in statistics, a running total of claims can be seen here, and a very interesting table of that information (along with the highest scorers in each category) can be seen here. Good luck! Missing coords/Cave of Adullam

Hi Ynhockey - been away for a while, just got back and read your message. I'll try to work on some of the missing coords pages. One comment; Cave of Adullam should be merged to Adullam, as far as I'm concerned. I've done some work on the Adullam page, and after research, my conclusion is that it makes the most sense. The 3 pages that currently exist are a compromise of sorts.--Sreifa (talk) 11:14, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Image making

An image that maps the process following the 2011 Egyptian Constitutional Referendum if the result is Yes or No.

Hey there Ynhockey! How have you been? I hope all is well.

I was wondering if you could help out with this. A constitutional referendum will be held soon in Egypt, and the image here describes what would follow either result. It's in Arabic, and I've been working with another editor to translate it to English. We've put that in annotations on the image's Commons page [2]. But I can't handle anything beyond Paint, and we want to create a completely new image in English. I remembered those excellent maps you made for your articles, and I thought you might be able to help. Let me know. Thanks! --Sherif9282 (talk) 11:23, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

You dont need an arabic keyboard. You just need to create a new image with the translated text. All you need is a program like paint and an English keyboard. -- The Egyptian Liberal (talk) 18:02, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for agreeing to help! And, well, like EL said; if you use the annotations from the Commons page, it'll be just like an English version. Obviously, the timeline will have to be reversed so it is left-to-right instead of right-to-left (BTW, the timeline begins with March, 2011 and ends with March, 2013). If there's anything else you need to know, please ask. Thanks again! --Sherif9282 (talk) 20:33, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
It has been been added to the Graphic Lab BTW. -- The Egyptian Liberal (talk) 02:37, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. :D I dont want to bother you but can you change the colors to make it look like the arabic one and can you also add the "Potential risks" boxes too. Thanks again -- The Egyptian Liberal (talk) 02:05, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
When I made the picture, I made sure that it will be as unbiased as I can. I asked both sides to give me their argument with sources to back it up. I honestly could not have made with more NPOV. The colors should be red and green. Its has been always used in Wikipedia. If you look at the article you will see that the Yes is green and No is red.
PS: The arabic version is being used in many places :D and your english version might be used in few news articles :D -- The Egyptian Liberal (talk) 13:33, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Andrew M. Vachin (talk) 15:03, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

IPs changing UK to US spelling, especially in Geography of Israel

Multiple IPs are changing the spelling of measurements on this article, though I'm not sure if it's gotten to RFPP levels yet so I decided to ask your advice. Currently they're changing measurement spellings in the introduction while US spellings have remained in the rest of the article. Also I notice UK measurement re-changes in articles 91.85.129.114 did by other IPs, though I'm less certain about those articles as British vs. American spelling isn't immediately obvious to me.
