Sorry but considering what some editors have to endure right now, I cannot help but :-) and :-) and :-) again. p.s. feel free to dlt my note. Politis (talk) 14:57, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Solar System

I have nominated Solar system for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here.

I should have done this MUCH earlier! First time - learning & living! HarryAlffa (talk) 19:40, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

ChrisO hands out illegal warning

I just got a warning from ChrisO for 'Original Research.' I was editing the list in the Macedonia Name Dispute page and I had just removed a reference used fort he Dutch position as it was a dead link. Then I noticed the two GOVT references on this page: [[1]] both point to Denmark using FYROM or FYR Macedonia yet Denmark was in the list under 'List of countries to be sorted.' I moved Denmark to countries which use FYROM, ChrisO immediately reverted stating you need a source that states how Denmark uses the name, not infer it yourself from a random document. I then informed him, the 'random document were two Danish Govt Pages that were already there as references concerning Denmark and reverted. ChrisO then proceeded to revert and dish me out with an 'Original Research Warning.' This time he changed his story and stated: you are inferring Denmark's position, but the documents you cite do not say anything about whether Denmark recognises the constitutional name or not. This is interesting. Most of the list is made up of Embassy pages using the word Macedonia, and immediately they are on the list, under countries who recognise the Republic of Macedonia. I wonder how many of those editors received warnings from ChrisO? I am going to make this action of ChrisO stick as his behaviour in general has downgraded the neutrality Administrators are supposed to have. Any help on how to make him come to account for this action would be most appreciated. He has put the case down here:[[2]] Reaper7 (talk) 13:58, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Reaper7, I'm not going to comment on ChrisO's actions. I only have your side of the story. But I will say that the whole issue of Macedonia's name is in arbitration right now. What the heck are you doing editing the name or anything at all to do with the name when the arbitration is underway? That's just not being very smart. You, like everyone else, should be treating the name "Macedonia" (or any variation thereof) like it is a poisonous snake in any article you find it at. To rephrase the Miranda warning: "Anything you do can and will be used against you in the arbitration proceeding." (Taivo (talk) 21:59, 2 May 2009 (UTC))
OK, I notice that there's been some editing going on over at Macedonia naming dispute. To me that's just walking through a minefield with your fingers crossed while the arbitration is underway. So, Reaper7, you're not the only one playing with vipers and hoping you don't get bit. (Taivo (talk) 22:38, 2 May 2009 (UTC))

Oh rly?

Since you are so determined to chase me down, maybe you'd also care to answer my question I posed here [3]? (Preferably answer it here, to avoid yet more clutter on the arb page). Fut.Perf. 10:03, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

No, not better now. But please do let it stand like this; it will clearly demonstrate to the arbs the quality of your argumentation, and how well you understand what "AGF" means. Fut.Perf. 10:10, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Both here and there. AGF: "Most people try to help the project, not hurt it." Sorry if I am wrong, but by your FoF I got the slight impression that you don't exactly believe the first part of the sentence about Nikos with regards to the ARBCOM case.--Yannismarou (talk) 10:12, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Ου ψευδομαρτυρήσεις κατά του πλησίον σου μαρτυρίαν ψευδή. Look again. Fut.Perf. 10:37, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
(ce) I am not a fun of Ten Commandments! Fut, when 1) you believe that the X person is a disruption for the project on the Z topic, 2) you don't regard his contributions as useful on the Z topic but as a means for POV-pushing, then IMO you do not AGF, because I believe that 3) this user does not disrupt the project, 4) he is not a POV pusher, and his contributions are useful! In any case, I refute the argument that I am determined to chase you down. ChrisO yes; I made my case for his desysopping. You no, I never said you are a bad sysop. Chris is!--Yannismarou (talk) 10:45, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, you're a lawyer? You need a brush-up course on the trivium, especially the art of syllogism. Fut.Perf. 10:50, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
No, I am not a lawyer; I am just a humble jurist. And, hopefully, I've saved myself from such boring courses.--Yannismarou (talk) 10:57, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe they would help your performance at Arbcom though. But I can imagine Bulgarian courses are probably more entertaining. Fut.Perf. 11:04, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Gmhm. I really don't know what is more boring, ARBMAC2 or Bulgarian courses!--Yannismarou (talk) 13:03, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Still, in the interest of making ARBMAC even more boring, you might consider resisting the temptation to spice it up by giving false evidence against thy neighbour. You may not be a big fan of the Ten Commandments, or you may or may not be a big fan of making fun of them, but human society in general has traditionally assigned a certain value to this particular one. Fut.Perf. 13:41, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
And by the way, somebody ought to also try to reduce those turba choruses over at the arbcom page to a tolerable piano, there's too many false notes. Won't you be their singing master? They might listen to you; they certainly won't listen to me. Fut.Perf. 14:01, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Humph [4]. I suppose I've had enough intercourse with you to know your sense of humour, but are you sure the arbs do? Ου ψευδομαρτυρήσεις and all that jazz... Fut.Perf. 15:52, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Macedonians

Basically you can see Macedonians (Greeks) as an expanded version of the regional identity section of Macedonia (Greece). Regional identity has its roots and the history of that is in the article. Of course some summaries about origins, preface and geopolitical context for coherence are needed. Generally how do you see the article right now? Πως σου φαίνεται? Shadowmorph (talk) 22:48, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

It's a nice start, but it needs a lot of work, in order to acquire a proper structure, an even development of sections, a proper implementation of MoS guidelines etc. What I like a lot is the photographic material you've gathered and added.--Yannismarou (talk) 23:15, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Regarding Helios

I've been googling about this encyclopedia but I can't find any info about it. I'm not saying that it doesn't exist or that it's not credible, since you and some others have told me otherwise, but do you have any information about it? I'd like to check it (and the bibliogaphy it might cite) out.Drakein (talk) 06:13, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the information! Turns out the Greek National Library of Athens has it. Sorry for deleting it before, not finding anything online about it's content made me think "it's unknown and Greek therefore most likely biased". Will check it out. Drakein (talk) 08:59, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I didn't know that overlapping proposals where a real issue there since there are a bunch. WikiProject Athletics

This may be a distraction from you "Big 4" of articles to improve but your recent FA Stamata Revithi falls under the banner of WikiProject Athletics. Would you like to sign up?

Also, can I just say that I really appreciate your approach to the Macedonian situation? It is understandable that the name and cultural appropriation of aspects of Ancient Macedonia by the Republic of Macedonia is a frustrating situation for many Greeks. However, upon discussion with Greek people they often come to the conclusion that this appropriation is wrong because the people in Macedonia are a different people (Bulgarians or whatever...). Judging from your talk page you seem to realise that the supposed historical and current ethnography is not so clear cut. It might bruise certain Greek egos to find out that, ethnically, they have more Italian or Turkish roots than "Ancient Greek" ones (whatever that means!), but this is not an unusual occurrence. I appreciate your forethought on what is still a controversial topic. Any hopefully you're interested in the WikiProject! Cheers! User:Pyraechmes

First, you probably should ask User:DragonflySixtyseven as the blocking admin, not me. It's his block you're planning on overturning. Second, this area of article is bad enough with people's "sarcasm" and other comments that aggravate others. I've worked on the Serbian/Croatian Eastern European nonsense and indefinite blocks are sometimes the only thing to keep things sane. Third, the removal of inappropriate comments you find as a positive could also be seen as a way of cleaning up the talk page for the reviewing editor, but I'll assume good faith on that one. Frankly, being calm after you've been an idiot and you have no other choice is not an excuse to me. Plenty of people here are calm and nice when admins are around but act like idiots when left alone. Fourth, if you want to, make it clear nobody cares about hating Jews or his personal beliefs but about his conduct. Fifth, he's been here since January, been warned about the arbitration case, and still thought that was all a good idea. His judgment is not something I support at this point. Sixth, he has a host of copyright notices on his page, and comments like this don't indicate an interest in neutrality or in our source requirements. If he kept up the images problem, he'd get reported soon enough and find himself blocked for that. The fact that he didn't acknowledge it concerns me. However, I see you've been working with him quite a while. If you can get the original admin to go along, go ahead. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 19:53, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Don't worry about it. Note that Dragonfly's note on the block log said "block is for user's own good" so he might be more amiable to reversing than most. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 23:22, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

There is a POV abuse in the article Despotate of Epirus, someone insists that it was Albanian-speaking too (claiming that Albanian was equal used as Greek), although the sources he provides prove exactly the opposite about that state's identity. If you have time, take a look.

On Aut. r. of Northern Epirus, im working with the pictures right now, hope the descriptions are ok.Alexikoua (talk) 13:22, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Yannismarou. I don't think we want breaks in the "refs", The rest of the "refs" use ";" between multiple cites. I've been converting the breaks to ";". Also I'm assuming you will add works being cited (Austin, Lagnavec, Gruen, et al) to the reference list? It would be ideal to have the works listed there before citing them. Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Macedonia 2

This arbitration case has been closed and the final decision is available at the link above.

  • All editors on Macedonia-related articles are directed to get the advice of neutral parties via means such as outside opinions and Geopolitical ethnic and religious conflicts noticeboard (WP:ECCN), especially since there are significant problems in reaching consensus.
  • All articles related to Macedonia (defined as any article that could be reasonably construed as being related to Macedonia, Macedonia nationalism, Greece related articles that mention Macedonia, and other articles in which how Macedonia will be referred to is an issue) fall under 1RR whenever the dispute over naming is concerned. Editors enforcing a case where a binding Stalemate resolution has been found are exempt from 1RR.
  • The following users have been banned from Wikipedia : Avg (talk · contribs)one year, ΚΕΚΡΩΨ (talk · contribs)one year, and Reaper7 (talk · contribs)six months .
  • The following users have been topic-banned from Macedonia-related articles and their talk pages, as defined in All related articles under 1RR: Avg (talk · contribs)indefinitely, ΚΕΚΡΩΨ (talk · contribs)indefinitely, Reaper7 (talk · contribs)one year and, SQRT5P1D2 (talk · contribs)one year.
  • The Committee takes note that ChrisO (talk · contribs) has resigned his administrator status while this case was pending, but also notes that he is desysopped as a result of the above case. ChrisO may obtain the tools back via the usual means or by request to the Arbitration Committee.
  • Future Perfect at Sunrise (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) is strongly admonished for displaying a long pattern of incivil, rude, offensive, and insulting behavior towards other editors and failure to address the community's concerns in this regard. Because of this Future Perfect at Sunrise is subject to an editing restriction for one year, and is desysopped for three months as a consequence of poor user conduct and misuse of administrative tools. After three months, his administrator access will be automatically restored.
  • Single-purpose accounts are strongly advised to edit in accordance with WP:SPA and other Wikipedia policies. Diversifying one's topics of interest is also encouraged.
  • Abuse filter 119, as currently configured, logs all changes involving the word "Macedonia" but does not block any edits. The community is strongly advised to consider adding a new abuse filter criterion; any instances of changing the word "Macedonia" to "FYROM" (the five-letter acronym, not the full phrase) shall be prevented.
  • Within seven days of the closure of this case, a discussion is to be opened to consider the preferred current and historical names for the four entities known as Macedonia. The discussion will end one month after it is opened.

Advice needed

Hello Yannis! I cam across this newly-created account, where someone has copied my userpage verbatim (and copied stuff from other users' talk pages for his talk page). Aside from creating this page, the user doesn't appear to have any edits. I have left a warning in his talkpage, but it's possible he won't answer (my hunch is that this represents some form of vandalism, and the account will remain inactive). Would I be justified in unilaterally removing the content from the user page? Regards, Constantine 12:07, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the swift action. Cheers, Constantine 13:27, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
This turned out to be a serial troll who did the same with multiple accounts; a number are now blocked. By the way Yanni, will you be taking part at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Macedonia? There's a couple points where I had expected your input. Fut.Perf. 10:49, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Serious misquotings and falsifications of sources.

Hi Yannismarou. There is a major problem with the present Chams article as it is full of falsifications and misquoting of its sources. Until yesterday I had no idea about but in a day (until now) I found 14!! such cases in that article, indicating a consistent effort possibly from more than one editors. I really don't know how to manage the situation because I believe that they are many more such cases. I started to report the cases one by one to the discussion page and to edit the article but the falsifications are too many to do it by myself before an edit war will start again to stop any real work. Can you please take a look to the discussion and the already mentioning cases (I will give at least eight more) to make your checking and to tell me how to manage the situation. Can we freeze the article so to examine one by one every source on it? It is impossible to do it by myself when every day new references and edits are adding (by the same person), together with the hot debate in the discussion page. About the discussion I indeed believing that is used as an excuse to leave the article as it is. See for example what happened with the Igoumenitsa discussion (much to the same issue about Chams)[6]. You will see much the same story. When I firstly edited the article the same persons asked me to go to discuss it before. After the usual hot debate of the first days, now I am taking one answer every week and after 21 days of almost no participation, the discussion is dead much the same as the article as we have “no consensus” to edit it. They simply don't care any more since the article is now effectively locked having not a single undesirable word. They have ten days to participate, having to answer a week before their last post. Thanks and sorry for the trouble. --Factuarius (talk) 06:35, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Peer review invitation

Καλημέρα Γιάννη! I saw you are trying to mediate in the Cham mess. Best of luck, although a box of aspirins is more useful... Anyway, I've just completed writing an article on the Byzantine civil war of 1341–1347, which is one of those nasty, pointless, tragic affairs that put the "Byzantine" in "Byzantine Empire" and make you want to weep at the stupidity of man. So if you want a break off from the other nasty, pointless affairs like the Chams or Macedonia, I would appreciate your input in a peer review over at WPMILHIST. Best regards, Constantine 09:17, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello again. Yes, I had started doing some work, but rather neglected them. I'll see whether I can complete some of them during this week, and I'll notify you as soon as I have some of them up. Cheers, Constantine 08:32, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the thumbs up in the PR. I was actually considering going for A-class and then for FA. I'll take your advice though ;). BTW, I couldn't agree with you more on the subject of NPOV policy results with respect to prose style. I've read discussions at FAC deploring the lack of "brilliant prose" and comparing it to Britannica excerpts replete with literary flourish, disregarding that if one were to put these same excerpts in WP, they'd be filled with POV, "weasel words" or "citation needed" tags within 5 seconds... Oh well... Constantine 07:06, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

How much do I get for my contributions to Dionysios Solomos? The rate according to the European Central Bank is currently 1% if I'm right. Calculated from June 2008 please!... Oh, and you forgot to mention the price list for translations, especially from unusual and rare languages. Pel thal (talk) 11:48, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

I said that a more detailed list will soon be published. Please, don't hurry, and be a bit patient! In 2008 there were no plans for paid editing. At the time, we were still believing that we are volunteers who just want to spread knowledge and edit for pleasure (bullshit obviously!). You're unlucky. And, after all, did you have an employer for the Solomos commission?! if not, then who do you suggest should pay you?! A great idea is to lure the Solomos Foundation (if there is any!) to pay you, in order to bring the article to FA status. I am afraid, though, that if you ask something like that the only thing that you will receive is laughters! Some people are not yet ready to realize the great virtues of paid editing!--Yannismarou (talk) 13:03, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Your redirecting of the Orthodox Catholic Church to the Eastern Orthodox Church

The rename was prompted by the renaming of the Roman Catholic Church article to the Catholic Church aka Roman_Catholic_Church. Your revert means that we as Orthodox can not validily call our selves Catholics. Cause we are not part of the Catholic church.. We are no longer the church of the Catholic Councils. Illyrian-albanian issue!

I think that it is not fair that the information concerning history of Balkans is monopolized like that. If you want to put information, that there should be sources from all sides and point-of-views. The truth is that Illyrians are called ilirë in Albanian. And, you certainly know that Illyrians lived in modern day Albania. So there is no logical reason that ilirët should not be there as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Madalbanian (talkcontribs) 16:27, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Albanian names in Souliotes article

WHy did you remove the Albanian names in toponyms and names in the Souliotes article? Since they were ethnically Albanian, the Albanian names should be added also. It makes no sense to have names like "Giussis" and not have the names which they actually used for themselves. SO why did you remove them, without any explanation? THe one who added them may have been an Ip editor but that doesnt give you the right to remove them without any explanation. PLease explain. If you dont explain, I will report you, my neogreek friend. --Sarandioti (talk) 10:20, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Mythology collboration

Hi, i got your name from the Greek mythology GA. I was wondering if you had time to contribute to section introductions on LGBT themes in mythology. I am aiming for 200 citations before submitting to GA, so i'm still adding info. But it is the non-LGBT content that i need help with. I think each subsection needs a (very) brief introduction to the mythology to make the article flow better and give context, but they all end up sounding the same when i write them (and most of the mythology article leads are too long or too badly written. Replied

I've replied on my talk page. Paul August 12:09, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Your edit with the comment “Are you serious?!” is offending and I have to turn it back. Yes I am. Since we never had a word between us in the past, I found your expression unjustified highly negative. It's not my responsibility that your (possible) limited knowledge about the period led you to misunderstand the text. The word "ruffians" is not Greek it's French, is sourced from a very serious British eye witness and its use had nothing to do with the venizelists as you in excitement concluded. Its meaning is not subjective and is not used to politically offend. The author is explaining in his book why is using that objective term and that he use it literally not as an offend as you thought. I know who am I talking to, having followed in detail your admirable effort for a year now. Regards, --Factuarius (talk) 18:35, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

About the "rufifians" and your "objective terms" I have answered to the article's talk place. It is your right to return the comment. I really don't care. Timeline of İzmir

Hi Yannis. I appeal to your initial contributions, especially as far as categorization was concerned, to the article Timeline of İzmir. Though, in my opinion, the article is bound to remain as a list by its nature and can only be developped piecemeal, it is my intention to keep the wide coverage of its content as balanced as possible. This also holds true for the images in the article and I am seeking, in this mindset, an image of Alexander the Great to put in there, next to Homer's. One like the numismatic example shown here [11], showing him sleeping on the slopes of Kadifekale (Pagos) while he is being whispered that this is where he should found the new city of Smyrna would be perfect by its relevance to the subject matter. Do you have an idea on where such an image could be found and safely uploaded with no dubious copyright status or inconstant link. Regards. Cretanforever (talk) 18:27, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Heraklion Archaeological Museum assessment

Hi Yannismarou, I am up to cleaning up and putting some order in Greek museums, mostly from a WP Museums point of view. Here is my work-page: User:Hoverfish/Sandbox. I am trying to facilitate stub development work, by creating a volunteer-friendly evaluation/priority list. As things were, it was very discouraging to do anything as there were many confusing items mixed in. If you can help me with the few remaining questionable items in there (for example those marked as "NO such museum found" or some "low importance" cases), I would appreciate it greatly. Another point: Heraklion Archaeological Museum is assessed as Class-B. Can you please drop me a note on your opinion about this? There is plenty of material not covered here, so, can an article of this size be assessed as B? I ask because I am very shy with assessing B-class (due to lack of experience) and this was a surprise.
