Should the "Further Reading" section in this article be above the "References" section? I have a hunch that it should be, but my computer's acting funny and won't load WP:MOS all the way. Grazie in advance! Srose (talk) 20:29, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Edit war at Ed, Edd n Eddy

edit

Thank you for the clarification. Could you please step in and help clear this mess up? All these people (I suspect it's only one) want to clutter the article with cruft and falsehood, all the time whining about others deleting their posts. The fact that you were impersonated should be a red flag. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. -- 70.135.57.208 02:32, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help so far. The wars continue. The latest attacker is a user called Iliketoeetfud, who reposted all of the cruft that the user you blocked did, along with an explosion of profanity on the history page. -- 70.135.57.208 03:13, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Now, Iliketoeetfud is editing the discussion page. -- 70.135.57.208 03:58, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your help. However, the war rages on. The two users who were blocked yesterday apparently registered under new user names, and vandalized the page again today. I can tell it's them because they continually post the same lies and cruft, complete with misspellings. Were you serious about protection? A week or 2 protected would probably allow things to cool down. Thank you. -- 70.135.57.208 00:50, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm very sorry for trying to pretend to be you to gain an advantage in an edit way. It just seems that that unregistered person doesnt get the message of what I'm trying to do, and It's very frustrating. DietLimeCola 18:04, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've identified at least 7 different usernames who posted exactly the same edits during this war. They are: JennyBrava; Iknowmanythings; Thiswontgowell; DarkDragonKid; SinkingDiamond; Iliketoeetfud, and DietLimeCola. Using sockpuppets to vandalize articles is a sure way to get a long term ban from Wikipedia. Also posting the same edits was 68.37.205.18. -- Elaich 03:40, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Double Standard

edit

I wanted to remove a link from Edward Cardinal Egan's page, it was a similiar link to the link I put on Bill Clinton's, a few editors continue to put it back in and one sent me this message:

"Please refrain from removing content from Wikipedia. If you have an issue with a link on Edward Cardinal Egan's biography page, take it up on the Biographies of living persons."

Now, if this the case for Cardinal Egan, the case should be the same for Bill Clinton, and the link should not be removed, instead go through the challenege they told me to go through.

If they are wrong about it, though, I would ask you to help me out and tell them that they are wrong and remove the POV link from Cardinal Egan's biography on the same ground as it was removed from Bill Clinton's biography. 75.3.23.157 00:04, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I should also point out that the Cardinal Egan link was put in the same way as the Bill Clinton link, by an AU without any explanation. Please help get this situation straigtened out. 75.3.23.157 00:05, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Who is it that is right? Me or them? I don't think they will listen to me since we had a content dispute over if something was a rumor or a fact, and it seems they are intent on just reverting it just because I made the edit.

If I am right, could you, as an administrator, remove the link from the Cardinal Egan page and settle it or did you mean they are right and I should put the link back on the Bill Clinton page? 75.3.23.157 00:08, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's not true, exactly. That article was about one priest who has a problem with the Cardinal. His claims aren't coming from any facts, just speculation, out of anger. 75.3.23.157 00:13, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also, the story about Ann Coulter and Bill Clinton, I could get the same story from a news organization like MSNBC, or event the same paper that wrote the Cardinal Egan article. 75.3.23.157 00:16, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

So, do you think you could solve the problem by removing the link? 75.3.23.157 00:20, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The priest doesn't have any proof to back up his claim and neither does Ann Coulter, so both articles should be treated equally. 75.3.23.157 00:30, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bus Geek

edit

No need to apologize, it's somewhat confusing. The creator of the Bus Geek article is User:CME46, who made this comment on my talk page yesterday (note the e-mail address). Aside from the message on my talk page, CME46's user page proves the identity of CME46. See Wikipedia:Requests for comment/68.170.0.238 for the general pattern of edits by Andrew Lin that is confirmed on CME46's user page (including, most tellingly, the reference to the "25 years of beauty" song, an article that was created by Lin a year ago). Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!

Re: Userpage

edit

I'll redirect it to my talkpage for now... I prefer that to wandering around with my sig appearing as a redlink. If you want to delete the whiney past revisions, I'd be much obliged, --W.marsh 02:13, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Of course a user should be master of his own user page. Nevertheless, redirecting to his talk page is confusing for anyone clicking on the user name: it seems better to have a 'red' user name followed with a 'blue' talk, just as a user who never created a user page. Better still, the user can modify his talk page to a very simple content [and possibly insert an explicit link to his talk page]. I also do not find it quite proper for a user who continues to edit on the Wikipedia, to have not only the content but also the history of his user page eliminated without an explanation (which does not have to be detailed, there could be a good reason to remain vague). Or am I missing something? — SomeHuman 23 Sep2006 13:58 (UTC)
What are you talking about? If he wishes for his userpage history to be deleted, that's his thing. Also, your statement seems contradict itself when you say people have complete control of their userpage, but they shouldn't redirect it to their talk. I redirect to my talk, and alot of people do. That article was deleted twice on September 23, why does it not qualify as CSD G4? CSD A1 might also apply. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 01:21, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The article was deleted for being a copyvio and one line. The current article is a redirect, therefore, it doesn't count as a recreation. Also, G4 means deletion policy which is usually AfD. Speedy deletion is not part of deletion policy which does not gauge consensus. Yanksox 01:23, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template:Db-spam

edit

I noticed you deleted a template I created, Template:Db-spam. The deletion reason you gave referenced a comment by Ral315, who previously deleted a template by the same name. Ral315 characterized the deleted template as a "Rogue deletion for a CSD that doesn't exist." However, the template that I created referenced an existing CSD, G3, and was intended to be placed on pages whose creation constituted spam vandalism. Clearly, since not all creation of pages which appear to be comprised largely of advertising matter constitutes spam vandalism, many articles which are written as advertisements do not qualify for speedy deletion, and must be nominated for deletion through the AFD process. Nonetheless, in extreme cases, creation of advertisement articles does constitute spam vandalism, and such articles are subject to deletion under CSD G3. For instance, if a user creates twenty articles consisting of the same advertisement under different, unrelated, names, these articles are considered to be spam vandalism, and are subject to speedy deletion. I created this template in response to just such an occurrence. Similarly, if a user creates, say, an article comprised entirely of advertisements and links to various offshore pharmacies bearing no relation to the article title, I would consider such a page to be subject to speedy deletion under CSD G3. While there is an existing speedy deletion template for CSD G3, Template:Db-spam is valuable for a more precise description of why spam vandalism pages are subject to speedy deletion. Since I created Template:Db-spam for a legitimate purpose compatible with CSD G3, and with no intention of employing it to request "rogue deletion[s] for a CSD that doesn't exist", I would like to request undeletion of the template. Thank you. John254 01:13, 29 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've been drafting this statement to put on the RfA talk page at the time of acceptance. Are there any other questions you think I should address? Post on my talk, or just add them in directly. I love lunchtime ultimatums. I didn't know where you lived (other than town) for the first, oh, I don't know, month that I was with you. And, unforunately for this wonderful vandal, your name as a username is off the market... ;) (Yup, I looked at the history of a particular page out of sheer boredom and was shocked to see your name...) Too bad it's also an extremely common one, too, first and last together.

Anyhoo, just wanted to give you a heads up on your new fan club because I see the threat was removed from your talk page too.

Talk to you soon...sorry I was away from the computer and on gmail at the same time. >< Srose (talk) 19:13, 29 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good call on the speedy restore. All I was able to do was put a note on the closing admin's talk page and the talk page of the speedy deleting admin, followed by a DRV notice. Agent 86 22:45, 30 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, if you look through the log you can tell that sometimes it's just deleted for A7 and then restored. There should be some Jimbo-only edit button. Yanksox 22:47, 30 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, that didn't last too long. Another admin decided that community consensus doesn't matter and not only deleted the article, but blocked recreation. Kinda discouraging to those of us who aren't admins - our opinion doesn't really count for much. Agent 86 09:34, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Boston (disambiguation)

edit

I have noted your changes to this page. They appear contrary to an agreement made recently on the Talk:Boston (disambiguation) page. I have not immediately reverted them since I don't wish to start an edit war. Please reconsider your edit in the light of the talk page and let me know your position. Specifically, you have placed Boston, Lincolnshire at the bottom of the list, whereas its historical importance rivals that of Boston, Massachusetts and certainly exceeds that of the other "cities" listed. I'm prepared to unblock him - it was an easily fixed pagemove and the talk page conversation was a bit fragmented and unpleasant. At least it's not another 3rr violation, which he has made a habit of. You ok with that? The Land 17:43, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm cool with that. I'm worried about past beahvior. Maybe he and Daniel should be taken under arbom or an RfC? Yanksox 17:45, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

My apologies on the page created for "Cromwell Architects Engineers". The intent was to create a page that described the firm and it's history, and instead the individual that did the page basically did a copy/paste from a business development page...I intend to re-do the page personally, spending more time describing the history of the firm, it's individuality amongst many other architectural firms, and to keep the page as an explanation of what it is, rather than blatently looking like a "hire us" page.

Again, my sincerest apologies, and this will be corrected and done appropriately.

A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin

edit
Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin
Your comment was one I'll remember for a good time. :) Thanks for your trust. Luna Santin 20:14, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Scorpion0422 is refusing to allow cited material to remain on the Second City Television article, and removed a topic about it from his talk page. Please investigate. Thanks for all your help. -- Elaich 01:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is not cited. The article it cites doesn't support its claims. All it does is compare the similarities between two characters and claim one is based on another. I explain all this in the Talk page. I justified my edits and that hardly counts as vandalism. -- Scorpion0422 01:59, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
No vandalism, this is a content dispute. Yanksox 02:34, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
