Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you may have added public domain content to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as Thomas McCulloch. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of an attribution template. Please make sure that any public domain content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 00:11, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Jennier (Jennie) Hotson

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Jennier (Jennie) Hotson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. – NJD-DE (talk) 00:50, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Writer367,
It's best to create articles and develop them in Draft space or User space like your Sandbox. Articles placed directly in the main space of the project are subject to review and can be deleted if they are not up to Wikipedia's standards of completeness and adequate sourcing.
If you have questions, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:37, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks - apologies!
Will do in the future. Writer367 (talk) 03:48, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Jennie Little Hotson moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Jennie Little Hotson, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. – NJD-DE (talk) 10:20, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello Writer367! Your additions to Canadian Writing Centres Association have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 03:11, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Chaotic Enby. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the main body of Canadian Writing Centres Association. Generally, any relevant external links should be listed in an "External links" section at the end of the article and meet the external links guidelines. Links within the body of an article should be internal Wikilinks. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.   Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did at Canadian Writing Centres Association, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Thank you. I'm the author of the paper that I removed from the article, which you subsequently added back in > "Where's the support: Learning support for...". There's nothing in this paper that contributes to the history of the CWCA/ACCR. I'm also one of the founders of the Canadian Writing Centres Association, and the editor of its blog, CWCR/RCCR. I am also the author of the materials connected to the CWCA/ACCR blog CWCR/RCCR, including A Short History of CWCA/ACCR: Fifteen years on. I am the editor of the blog, as well. Writer367 (talk) 17:51, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you are one of the founders of the blog and/or the one writing the materials you are citing, you have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and shouldn't be the one creating that article. Also, as mentioned above, if you own the copyright, you should release it under appropriate terms (i.e. you cannot retain non-free ownership and have to release it under a free license).
I strongly suggest you read Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide before further editing the page. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 17:20, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also, please stop adding external links in the body of the article. They can in an "External links" section, but you shouldn't link words in the article itself to other websites. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 17:21, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
