East Broad Top Railroad edits

I am an EBT fan who is very knowledgeable about the railroad in Robertsdale PA

Hello Wjohns19, I'm Blue Riband. I reverted your locomotive additions to the East Broad Top Railroad article because they were what we call "unsourced". Verifiability is an important policy of Wikipedia. While you may know the motive power of the EBT very well through your personal involvement and expertise, other editors need to be able to verify that content through independent reference sources such as published references or historical association websites. In this case that would include books written about the EBT or Baldwin's locomotive output as well as websites from historical preservation groups. You may fine the page WP:REFB helpful. Your deleted content is preserved in the page history for EBT and you are welcome to restore it when you can add references. I got that from an engineering drawing that I am not allowed to publish the image of, that is why i didn't include a source, it was the drawing from Edmund Collins from the railroad museum of Pennsylvania

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Wjohns19 (talk • contribs) In this case an engineering drawing would be a verifiable Reliable Source when it contains both the information that is reported in the article and considered reliable for that information. It's not available online but a person could visit the office and ask to see it? I don't know if it's a Baldwin drawing or something generated by EBT's staff. Wikipedia doesn't have a citation template for something like this but I made up an example that you could use below. Between the two "ref" symbols 1) describe the drawing, 2) where it is located, and 3) when you last looked at it:

Wjohns19, you'll have to be lot more specific. Is Edmund Collins an archivist at the Railroad Museum or was he a historic motive power engineer at EBT or Baldwin? Does the drawing have a title? Are you able to describe what exactly it represents? "Engineering drawing on file at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania" it too vague. An editor who wants to add something to an article has the burden of providing a reliable source to support that information.Blue Riband► 01:27, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Edmund Collins was a guy, before the railroad got strict, made measurements by hand of the locos and made that drawing and donated the rights in his will when he died to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania archives.

I moved your answer down to keep the talk in chronological order here. So he's was with the EBT and when he passed on willed his drawings to the RRMP archives but he - or they - won't allow photographic reproduction. Is that it in a nutshell? Then if I understand this right the drawing can be referenced this way:

Does it contain a date anywhere? An archive record or call number would really help. I just went to the museum's Library and Collections online search but "Collins" didn't turn up anything related to the EBT.Blue Riband► 04:02, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Great, that's exactly the type of information that is needed. Wikipedia has no specific template for referencing engineering drawings but you can use this:

I personally have helped cosmetically restored this engine, this is an ongoing project about the engine's history

I spent over a year working on this engine so far, and I have personally installed to repro builders plates on the engine, so therefore, I do not need to cite it since i did it Wjohns19 (talk) 18:10, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
