Welcome to Wikipedia! edit

Hello Vogensen, welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

Hi, today the article was moved to São Francisco River. Regards, Carioca 00:50, 3 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

John of God edit

[moved here from the User:Vogensen page] I had to move the page because the convention is no capitals in the parenthesis part (i.e. it should be "(medium)" not "(Medium)"). As for João vs. John, AFAIK, usually articles about persons are titled by their names in the original languages, transliterated if necessary so that the page name is an ISO Latin-1 string. This is not a hard rule; in fact translation is recommended/required for certain names of European kings ("Alexander of Russia") and when the person has a well-established English name ("Christopher Columbus", "Geber"). In this case, its is indeed hard to decide whether "de Deus" was intended to be only a nicer-sounding proper name (like the poet's), or a descriptive phrase. I assumed the former, in which case it seems better to use the Portuguese nickname as it is more "official", possibly more permanent, and probably more logical for non-English-speaking readers. In any case, since "John of God" and "João de Deus" are already taken, any name would be equally inconvenient to readers; and the redirects make the choice almost irrelevant. Jorge Stolfi 19:34, 1 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dr. Fritz edit

The article is called "Dr. Fritz", and he has almost always been presented as a real person -- he even has a biography. So it seems more logical to treat him as a real doctor, whose existence is questioned by many people -- hence the "hypothetical doctor". Compare to Prester John. Even if we considered him a spirit, his existence is doubted by many, including many that generally believe in spirits. So it woudl have to be a "hypotetical spirit that was allegedly channelled by ..."

By the way, I noticed that you took out the Adolf Yep,,,whatever name from that page. Did one of those mediuns really make that claim? In that case that name should be listed in boldface in the head paragraph. Note that I created a redirect from that name to Dr. Fritz. Jorge Stolfi 00:41, 3 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Catalão edit

Hi. The Catalão article is really very good. I tried to find some info about Luziânia and Cristalina. Take a look at this link for info about Cristalina (only some statistics). See this link for info about Luziânia's history, and this for statistics. Hope that helps. Regards, Carioca 22:13, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Vidagopalacehotel.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Vidagopalacehotel.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. Image Tagging Image:Goiania1930's.jpg edit

This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Goiania1930's.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stan 17:03, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, doesn't work that way. The image on pt: is probably illicit too, but nobody has seen fit to take action (I'm not an admin there nor do I know Portuguese, so not much to be done). In any case, each image has to have its own description and license - what if the pt: version were to be deleted? You'd lose your documentation. You might try Googling around, see if you can locate the real source and copyright. It could be PD for instance, if originally published in a country like Australia with a 50-year rule. Stan 21:17, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request for edit summary edit

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 0% for major edits and 0% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 0 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 22:30, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Jesus Garcia, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Postcard Cathy 23:03, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copyright status of History of Chaves edit

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to History of Chaves. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.portcult.com/07.HIST1.PREHISTORY.htm and contiguous pages in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:History of Chaves with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:History of Chaves with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement.

It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Vale do Rio dos Bois edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Vale do Rio dos Bois, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Vale do Rio dos Bois Microregion. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 14:11, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Aparecida.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Aparecida.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:24, 22 April 2008 (UTC). In the text I´ve written about the size of Prata, I didn´t write Prata was the biggest city in Minas Gerais but the bigger in territorial extension as it can be confirmed at IBGE´s page (Prata is under the code 315280 with 4.857km of extension and Uberaba under the code 317010 with 4.512km). I may thank you for everything and for the page. I just want you to know that my boss was born there (I did the translation under his order)and still has a house and some relatives living there. He is a very participative person at the community (making many projects and works. He really has very good feelings about Prata and just want to help the development of the municipality. Page titles edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Passos, Brazil a different title by copying its content and pasting it into Passos. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is considered undesirable because it splits the page history which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other articles that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. File copyright problem with File:Tamegaatdusk.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

File deletion nominations edit

There's nothing wrong really with keeping those files here, but they're simply unnecessary. None of them are used in any articles. And SVG files (the file format of the original images on commons) are infinitely scalable, so they can be set to be any size without a loss in quality. That is, if you want a 615 pixel version of the image you can just use wikipedia's image mark-up to scale the SVG so it is 615 pixels wide. (There is no need to have a separate 615-pixel PNG version.) Does this make sense? Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:02, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually, they are not being used. See Vão do Paranã Microregion for an example. The SVG hosted at commons is being used in the article, not the PNG you uploaded here. (Click edit to see the filename.) I don't totally understand why you mind if these are deleted, because the SVGs will still be on the commons, and these SVGs will still be used here. Your contributed article, List of municipalities in Goiás by population edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, List of municipalities in Goiás by population. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - List of municipalities in Goiás. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at List of municipalities in Goiás - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. —KuyaBriBriTalk 17:04, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Proposed deletion of List of most competitive municipalities in Goiás edit

The article List of most competitive municipalities in Goiás has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Only provided source is a homepage link, which leaves the reader clueless as to where exactly this info was taken from. In other words, this list is unsourced. Besides, not sure how exactly this is encyclopedic; was thinking of merging it to List of municipalities in Goiás, but adding unsourced material to another page just wouldn't feel right. My poit is, even if we find sources for that, this short list could be easily merged to a wider, more relevant one.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
