Wikipedia:Kappa Pi Beta

edit

Hello,I'm User:Naraht and I'm an experienced Wikipedia editor for whom Fraternities is one of my areas of emphasis. I'd like to comment a few things.

  • I'd have preferred to have discussion on adding Pillars and Virtues to the infobox fraternities, since they are for just one organization, but you appear to have done it correctly without messing anything else up, which is actually pretty impressive for a new editor (Infoboxes can be a pain)
  • Large amounts of text (generally more than a sentence) cannot be copied directly from other webpages. it is a copyright violation (see WP:COPYVIO) so the history section can not be used. Even if it was not a direct copy, the flowery language would be inappropriate for Wikipedia. "a new breed of gentleman" for example. Compare to say alpha Kappa Delta Phi which while still it still has mild issues can be used as a guide.
  • There are some other minor things, an occurence of 'univeristy', the link to the mascot should be [[Phoenix (mythology)|Phoenix]] to hide the disambiguator, and you may want to simply have 'Type II Diabetes' link directly as that phrase is a redirect to the right page.

I'm moving the page back into your User area until these issues (particularly the COPYVIO) can be taken care of. I want to help give this page the best chance of staying on Wikipedia and being the best page it can be. I'm watching your talk page, so you can respond here if you want, or on my talk page.Naraht (talk) 14:41, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

A couple of additional notes.
  • A previous version of this page was deleted back in 2008 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Kappa_Pi_Beta) , but the fact that Kappa Pi Beta is no longer a single school fraternity should help.
  • Everything in the main paragraph after "Colony at University of Missouri" probably belongs down in the History section instead of what was there.
  • References go immediately one after another rather than with spaces between so it shouldn't look like [1] [2] [3] [4] but rather [1][2][3][4]

Old version is still available

edit

What got deleted were some of the various redirects, which given how many times it has been moved across spaces isn't unexpected. And I should have cleaned things up after moving it to your userspace.

The first one that you created is *still* at User:Violinbeats/Kappa Pi Beta, the new one at User:violinbeats/sandbox, let me know which one you want me to look at and I'll start making changes and suggestions.

For the other, if you want, you can just put a {{Db-g7}} up at the top and an administrator will come by and delete it. db-g7 is a type of speedy delete request, see WP:CSD for the complete list. Note, this article is complete enough that even if someone else thinks it should be deleted, it has to go through a "non-speedy" discussion, and I'll help with that.

And *almost* nothing is permanently deleted in wikipedia, even deleted articles can be restored to an editor's userspace by an administrator to work on if they think it can be brought up to a better standard. (to get things completely totally permanently deleted (and inaccessible by administrators), bring a court order written by lawyers who make more than you or I ever will, it is pretty tough)Naraht (talk) 01:05, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'll use the new one in my sandbox.

edit

Thanks! I'll just use the new one in my sandbox and delete the other. Could you help me look at the newly created one, please?

Starting my changes

edit

I'm going to start with some changes...Naraht (talk) 01:47, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mission Statement

edit

The Mission Statement is *not* at the page that has its reference. It is only found at http://www.kappapibeta.org/info_mission.html and http://www.kpibuic.org/?page_id=3 . One of those would then be an appropriate reference.Naraht (talk) 02:03, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

For responses on talk pages (not in articles), please end your postings with four tildes, like this ~~~~ that adds your signature to the response.Naraht (talk) 02:04, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I commented out the categories...

edit

Article Categories should not be included while it is in userspace. When it is ready to move into mainspace, we'll uncomment (which should be soon.)Naraht (talk) 05:14, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your draft article, Draft:Kappa Pi Beta

edit

Hello, Violinbeats. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Kappa Pi Beta".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Kappa Pi Beta}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 02:01, 1 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
