Disambiguation link notification for September 26

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sigurður Einarsson (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

WP:MOSBIO

Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the opening sentence unless they are relevant to the subject's notability. And with on click of the mouse, what you failed to find. Murry1975 (talk) 11:14, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

WP:MOSBIO, where I told you and you looked up but could'nt see, and there was a discussion on the football project, which I will find when i get the chance. Murry1975 (talk) 15:40, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
You cant find it?, the link is above, the MOSBIO guideline lead to a discussion at project football, which is followed- its the same guideline. If you are struggling because English isnt your first language, there are other language wikipedias. Murry1975 (talk) 17:11, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
If you cant read the guideline linked and see in the first section what we have discussed, turn the computer off, and make yourself a nice cup of tea. If you cant read the notice at the top of my talkpage, the same applies. Murry1975 (talk) 17:23, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
I've read it thanks - I asked you for the two "easy to follow" policies you found "with on click". Again, if you want to police articles - learn the difference between a policy, a guideline and your opinion. If you demand high standards of "politeness" from others don't be impolite yourself. If you want to question other editors' use of the English language don't abuse the language with your semi-literate edit summaries! Clavdia chauchat (talk) 17:36, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Opinion? My opinion isnt invovled here. Can you link me to the guideline to back your edit? Go for it. Murry1975 (talk) 17:41, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Ryan-Zico Black

Thanks for your note at CfD. I only got involved because I chanced on this article in the printed version of The Independent (the pic in the online piece is not the same as the one in the printed edition, which actually shows some players of the club, not the opposition, and which also has a pic of Montgomery). It piqued my interest because I'd just read and watched Chrissie's evidence to the select committee inquiry on Women and Sport. See the links in the "Further reading" section at Chrissie Wellington - a pretty thorough demolishing of some of the attitudes you see in comments on the Independent piece - even ignoring the fact that she beats most of the men in her races. A strange fact: she is, by any objective set of criteria, one of the most outstanding athletes in any sport, of any era, of any gender, and yet she gets hardly any coverage. That reflects more on the media than it does on her achievements. Anyway, after reading the Independent, I tried to find the club on Wikipedia - not straightforward! I did think of pointing Glasgow City at the club, but settled, for now, for just putting a hatnote on Glasgow. BTW, I did grow up in that part of the world, though I am not Scottish. --NSH001 (talk) 08:49, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks

Quick word of thanks for your work developing further the Hólmbert Aron Friðjónsson article, great work finding those Icelandic refs. I know it is likely to be deleted in a few days, but at least we've kept it interesting for the 2000+ people who have viewed it so far this week :) --nonsense ferret 23:59, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

The support comment made my day. :D Beyond that, thank you for all the work you're doing on women's football/soccer articles. It is very much appreciated. :D

LauraHale (talk) 20:30, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

I take great pride in the fact that for a while, the quality of women's national football team articles was better than the men's. It is good to see these articles worked on. (I've actually been learning a bit about blind football recently. I really wish they had a women's version because fun game to watch.) On the other front, New Zealand is probably next. The current article titles fail WP:V because two teams exist and the rules are gender segregated. The Pillars of Wikipedia still apply. Anyway, please do keep up the good work. :) --LauraHale (talk) 21:16, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Relative popularity of the Socceroos versus Matildas in people's interests

Google tracks search volume for teams. This shows the relative number of searches for Socceroos, Matildas, and australia national soccer team. The relative volume of searches for the men's team and women's team was the same in April 2004, June 2004, July 2004, September 2004, November 2004, December 2004, February 2005, March 2005, April 2005, May 2005, August 2005, November 2010, December 2010, February 2011, April 2011, December 2011, January 2012, March 2012, April 2012, May 2012, July 2012, August 2012, January 2013, February 2013, April 2013, August 2013, December 2013. The Matildas topped the men in August 2004, July 2005, September 2007, December 2008, and July 2011. --LauraHale (talk) 12:13, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

[1] [2] When only Australian searches are factored in, the differences change. In August 2004, the Matildas had a 66 while the Socceroos had a 4. From December 2005 to April 2006, the Matildas beat the Socceroos based on interest. Again, the Matildas beat the Soccers from July 2006 until June 2007, August 2007 to pretty consistently going forward with one or two months where the Socceroos had more Australian interest.--LauraHale (talk) 12:28, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
This academic paper says that soccer is the most popular football code in Australia for women. For men, not so much. --LauraHale (talk) 13:05, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
This chapter from a textbook published by the University of Oxford Press says that soccer in Australia has traditionally been for women, ethnic immigrants and homosexuals. This counters the narrative of the sport being exclusively male (and white).--LauraHale (talk) 13:14, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
Regarding the "success" of the A-League, this source shows they have had financial troubles in the extreme, losing AU$20 million in the past year on top of the AU$27 million they lost during the 2011-2012 season. --LauraHale (talk) 13:16, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Related to this, I did an interview on Wikinews. It can be found at n:Wikinews interviews academic Steve Redhead about Australian women's soccer. --LauraHale (talk) 13:10, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
