Hi. Since you're a member of WP:ALBUMS, would you be interested in commenting at or reviewing my FAC for xx (album)? There hasn't been any activity there for 10 days, so any input would be appreciated. Dan56 (talk) 23:47, 17 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to New York edit

Please do not re-add the Australian chart on this page if you do not have a secondary source as you did with the New Zealand chart because it does not show up on the Australian chart page and should not be posted until it does as it is disputable and subject to be removed as it is now. Please post secondary source before readding the charting or only readd it when it shows up on the page. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by SummerFunandSun (talkcontribs) 10:11, 25 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

@SummerFunandSun: As I previously mentioned, the updated charts have already been posted on the official Australian (ARIA) charts website so it would not be disputable. The australiancharts.com database that is sourced and linked through the Single chart template updates a few days later than when the new charts are released. It would be quite troublesome to have to change the source when you could wait a day or two, but since you brought this issue up I'll just wait until the database is updated to re-add the information. Usfun8991 10:26, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
@Usfun8991: As I stated, Please post secondary source before readding the charting. Thank you!

December 2014 edit

Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Blank Space. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. You really need to stop adding original research else I have to report it. This completely goes against Wikipedia's Verifiability policy. You know the simple solution, add it from official source else wait for certification to get updated. Any unofficial source is unacceptable when an official governing body exists.Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 08:43, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Removed it from my talk page, I explained it here clearly that it is a verifiability fail as well as interpretation, which is essentially WP:OR. You are interpreting someone who is saying "sold" as being "certified". Nope, not acceptable in any way. Wait till ARIA updates, which is Sunday night I believe. The Taylor Swift fans and her articles will still survive. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 08:51, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
@IndianBio: Let me provide you with some information on how the ARIA Charts function. The charts are updated every Saturday night at 6pm (AEDST) with certification information attached to each entry. Since these certifications are not archived, the ARIA website has a list of certifications that is updated monthly, although it hasn't been updated since 31 October. To ensure certification information is permanently available and updated for referencing, a secondary source is used. Either the Chartifacts articles from the ARIA website or those from Noise11 which contain exactly the same information, but includes details of entries below position 50. With regards to the use of the word, "sales", it is merely a filler word added on to the end of the phrase because "reached Platinum..." sounds incomplete. If you take time (like I did) to compare the information in the articles with the official singles chart, you will see that all the new certifications mentioned on the article are correct. Both the ARIA and Noise11 Chartifacts articles are updated after the charts refresh and is therefore not a synthesis of published material. This information is further supported by a forum post by a staff member of the Hung Medien database, although I refrain from using this as a source because people like you consider forums to be original research. Just because you have additional privileges on Wikipedia, it does not mean you can go around undoing and reverting normal users' edits that you believe to be original research. I've noticed you've run into many problems with other uses about information that you believe to be original research, but are actually true. How many times have edits that I have made, and have been undone by you, actually turned out to be false? — Usfun8991
@IndianBio: Furthermore, the Noise11 website is not an interpretation of the ARIA Charts information. Gavin Ryan is a writer for both the ARIA Charts website and Noise11. He is also one of the staff members moderating the australian-charts.com Hung Medien database whose forum posts contain exactly the same information as ARIA and Noise11, which proves that all three websites have the same author and their information is not an interpretation of the other. I prefer to use the Noise11 website for referencing articles because its certification data is much clearer to a reader that does not usually visit the ARIA Charts than a simple G or P. Please also note that I am not the only editor who sources this website, there are other (more experienced) editors who utilise this verifiable information as well. — Usfun8991 09:34, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Guy Sebastian discography edit

Hi Usfun8991, I threw in some feedback. Enjoy. -AngusWOOF (talk) 23:19, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi USfun. I have found another source for the All I Need Is You video. It is on a site called Jukebo. It could possibly have been ripped from that youtube clip that was not considered a legitimate source, as the quality is pretty poor. But it might be accepted. Don't know if you want to use it.

http://www.jukebo.de/guy-sebastian/videoclip,all-i-need-is-you,q55lfv.html

I have hunted high and low, and cannot find any information about the directors of the videos which still do not have directors listed for them. The Midnight Hour one was filmed when Guy was recording The Memphis Album at Ardent Studios in Memphis as a promotional video. From memory the name of the person who filmed it was mentioned on the Ardent Studio forum at the time, but that forum was updated and old posts were removed years ago. In fact the forum may no longer exist. And anyway forums are not valid references even if the posts were still there. The Fail to Mention video was actually one of three promotional videos filmed by the American record company (part of Sony) which was going to release a hybrid album of The Memphis Album and Like it Like That songs in the US in 2009. One of the other videos was Guy performing All To Myself live, the third was an EPK with Guy and others talking about the album. Unfortunately that company went out of business and the album was never released, just an EP. I don't recall there ever being any information about who directed them. The Fail to Mention and All To Myself videos were evenually placed on Australian iTunes. The one that really puzzles me is Mama Ain't Proud. As it is such a new video, you would think there would be somewhere on the internet that the director is mentioned. But I sure can't find it.

Natbelle (talk) 04:18, 18 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Natbelle: I'll put it in and see if it's fine. The website seems to be reasonably reliable and it's been supported by technology website Mashable. Thanks for finding it! I don't think all the director boxes need to be filled in if there isn't a reliable source that can support the information. Since some of the videos are pretty old, I don't presume there will be much detailed information about them on the internet. — Usfun8991 (talk | contribs) 09:29, 18 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Usfun8991:

Have found the director of Cover on my Heart video. It is on a site with information about the crew of a movie called Orchids. His name is Simon Rippingale. It states this in his bio on the site.

"Simon’s production company F Block, has directed, designed and animated music videos for Australian artists such as Bob Evans (Hand Me Downs), Guy Sebastian (Cover on my Heart) and Old Man River (La)."
Here is the link if you would like to add it as a reference.

ARIA Charts edit

Thanks for that! I didn't know about that function. I honestly forgot about the individualised numbers on ARIA's site, but now I remember trying to figure them out myself months ago and not knowing how it worked. Ss112 07:39, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I was testing the numbers at the end of the URL after you told me about it the other week and discovered by accident that ARIA publishes them a bit earlier than when the actual official page is updated. I'm not sure why they do it at all, but I figure it's going to be updated anyway. Ss112 15:46, 23 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

ARIA End of Year Charts 2014 edit

Hey hey, Thanks a lot for letting me know about the web link that I was using (that will expire at the end of year).. that's a shame! The link you suggested isn't coming up just yet (although I assume it will be uploaded in coming hours/days). I know Lightsout was also using this link. I am tempted to finish off the top 100 singles with this link for now and this can be updated/changed later on, but if you'd like to help out, by all means, go ahead :) I won't do the albums chart just yet then. Thanks for the heads up. Tobyjamesaus (talk) 23:17, 6 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

PS/ Thanks for the new link of http://aria.com.au/pages/aria-charts-end-of-year-charts-top-100-singles-2014.htm ./ I'll start using that from now (I am up to No.80). Then I'll go back and change the references over the next few days. Tobyjamesaus (talk) 23:22, 6 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Guy Sebastian's Eurovision song edit

Hi Usfun.

Just a question. Guy Sebastian's Eurovision entry has not been released for sale yet. His manager Titus Day has said that there are no plans to release it for download until he performs it at Eurovision, not even in Australia. They may change their minds and release it to download sites sooner, but currently that is what is happening. So anyway. Is a song a single if it is not avaliable for sale? Someone has added it to his singles on his discography, but as it's release is still two months away should it be there? I suppose it is splitting hairs, but to me a song which you can't actually buy is not a single, it's an unreleased song.

Natbelle (talk) 15:01, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Natbelle: I think we should just leave it for the moment. I've noticed that all the other competitors have had pages created and new discography entries. As far as I'm concerned, it should not be violating WP:FUTURE or similar policies as it is 100% certain the single will be released when Eurovision commences. — Usfun8991 (talk) 23:45, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Jamie xx edit

Just in regards to one of your edit summaries on Jamie xx's article, "Loud Places" did actually peak at the equivalent of number 103 on the ARIA Charts. It was listed by Gavin Ryan on the australian-charts.com forum quite a few weeks back. You probably know, but the Hitseekers isn't equivalent to the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart in the US, so it's not a 20-position addendum. From the cited source (http://pandora.nla.gov.au/pan/23790/20150421-0000/Issue1312.pdf), the eight positions before "Loud Places" are all in the actual official top 100, but still chart on the Hitseekers due to ARIA's arbitrary rules for their inclusion (ostensibly "not being top 50 hits yet"). I understand you citing the ARIA Report for official information, but just noting that the peak wasn't incorrect, just unsourced (due to forums not being considered a trusted source and the lack of said information anywhere reliable, despite Ryan being the official ARIA Charts author). Ss112 09:01, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Ss112: I didn't even realise there was data available for chart positions lower than 100! So I did some digging and WP:USERGENERATED says that "Self-published material may sometimes be acceptable when its author is an established expert whose work in the relevant field has been published by reliable third-party publications." Having published material on the ARIA Charts website, I'd say that bulion/Gavin Ryan's forum post would technically fulfill Wikipedia's guidelines allowing it to be used. I've just added it back in to the article but if anyone decides that it doesn't meet reliability standards I guess there's no harm in changing it back to the Hitseekers chart considering 103 is quite an insignificant chart position. — Usfun8991 (talk) 10:08, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Revert explanation edit

The reason for my revert here is because the editor in question was a sock account whose purpose was mainly to revert the edits of another user, rather than because I disagreed with the change. That particular edit likely ended up being caught up in my reverting all their reverts but it was one of their good changes so I don't advocate reverting it again! :) Acalamari 10:15, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Acalamari: Yeah I noticed that you had mass reverted all their edits when I checked your contributions. All good, just a misunderstanding! — Usfun8991 (talk) 10:22, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Usfan8991, the resources that I've added really support the content.... what's the matter? I don't understand. :( Tobystso6222 (talk) 16:56, 12 December 2015 (GMT+8)

@Tobystso6222: Hello, the problem with your source is that it comes from a Coldplay fansite and quotes speculated information about Coldplay's album. The claim in the source is not supported by any other more reliable website and furthermore, the images supposed to be available on the article to support the claim no longer exist. The claim also seems to be built upon Twitter rumours as stated in the article. Also, on the Hung Medien database and AllMusic credits page mirroring the album booklet, Coldplay is not listened as additional writers for the song. Hope this clears it up. — Usfun8991 (talk) 09:56, 12 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
