A thanks edit

I'm sad to see you retire. While your edits occasionally had minor errors, I certainly don't feel like they negated the overall quality of your work. The encyclopaedia, and specifically Australian articles, benefited greatly from your presence here as I can. I will endeavour to do as much of the same work in your absence. I hope you come back one day, but until then, best wishes. Sean Stephens (talk) 03:07, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi User:Sean Stephens, Thank you for your message, that means a lot. I am decided to come back (mainly because I think I can still do some minor fixing). I am not going to do quite as much as I did, as I found it became like a "chore" and the errors stressed me out.. Let's see how I go. Appreciate your message and working with you moving forward Tobyjamesaus (talk) 05:26, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Is there a way you can list all the studio musicians that played on that Happy Days Album? 2601:407:C681:F2F0:7992:D5B:BAC1:73FD (talk) 05:00, 9 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Chad Morgan edit

Came to this page hoping to tap into your knowledge of the Sheik. His appearance in Dimboola was one of the film's few redeeming features, but his song is not listed in our article. My best guess at its title would be "My Didgeridoo", and it concerns the damage done to his instrument by a jealous knife-wielding woman. Never mind, I'll keep looking. Doug butler (talk) 00:28, 16 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi User talk:Doug butler, thanks for coming to me Chad Morgan. I was exposed to a lot of his music growing up, and just tidied up his page. I actually don't know much about him. Sorry I can't help out there. Tobyjamesaus (talk) 05:26, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Using flatlists in the infobox edit

Hello. There is no reason for there to be flatlists in the genre= field of Template:Infobox album anymore, as we now use bulletpoints to list items in most parameters of the infobox. Please do not leave an empty flatlist in any field in an infobox, as you did at All In (Stan Walker album), as it makes the parameter display blank on the actual page, and that's not helpful to anybody. Thanks. Ss112 20:03, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Certification Table Entry usage hint edit

Hi Tobyjamesaus. Just wanted to let you know that instead of using {{cite Ryan}} inside {{Certification Table Entry}}, you can use |source=book and |id=page# to get the same effect, like I did here. Enjoy editing! --Muhandes (talk) 07:43, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Toby, you've disregarded Muhandes telling you this like 10 times since. You're still doing it. You can just use source=book and id=(page number) in the certification entry template. You don't need to use certref= with a hard-coded citation. Also, while I'm here, please stop using semicolons to bold headings. Use bold markup with three apostrophes per WP:PSEUDOHEAD. Also,
(note the space and slash) should not be changed to
per H:BR. MediaWiki software handles the space+slash better, and changes
to
anyway, so there's no point in changing it. Ss112 08:07, 6 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Another shortcut you can use is for New Zealand certifications from the archived radioscope website. Simply use |source=archive instead of overriding the source with a long citation. --Muhandes (talk) 15:25, 7 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

One link per line on disambiguation pages edit

Hello Toby. I've seen multiple times recently when you've created articles you've either kept the existing link for that entry on a related disambiguation page or added another link besides the actual link for the entry. Per WP:DAB, there should only be one link per entry on a disambiguation page, as more than one link has the effect of confusing a reader. If the actual disambiguated entry has an article, don't link anything else on the line, or remove the existing link(s). When editing disambiguation pages, just remember "one link per line". Ss112 07:18, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Toby, a reminder there is one link per line on disambiguation pages. You've added more than one here. Ss112 07:25, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kent Music Chart platinum and gold records edit

Hi Toby, I see you added Australian platinum awards from the Kent Music chart era to the Cliff Richard albums discography (back in December). Thanks for that, much appreciated! I'm wondering where you were able to access the old reports from and if you have access to gold singles from the era too? I remember seeing on a forum Cliff had a number of gold singles between 1979 and 1982 (and probably 1986). It's a pity this kind of info is not available online in Australia. Cheers, AusChartMan (talk) 05:49, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey, sorry for the delay - I was away. As for Australian gold/platinum awards, they're really hard to locate. I knew someone who had some certifications, but there's lost missing (not just Cliff) from the 70s and 80s. Hopefully somewhere/ some day they'll turn up :) Tobyjamesaus (talk) 07:23, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

National Live Music Awards edit

Hello Tobyjamesaus. You may not even be aware of it, but the wording you are using to describe the National Live Music Awards is almost identical to that found on their website, which is of course copyright. Searching for "a broad recognition of Australia's diverse live industry, celebrating the success of the Australian live scene" I see that this wording is present in 167 different articles, at least 40 of which you edited in the last day. Please don't use this wording any more. To do so is a copyright violation. I have replaced it with "The National Live Music Awards (NLMAs) commenced in 2016 to recognize contributions to the live music industry in Australia" in the recently edited articles. The remainder of the articles where you added the copyvio wording will already be listed at WP:CCI and will get cleaned at some point (I don't have time to do them all today). Please let me know if you have any questions. — Diannaa (talk) 12:13, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

HI talk, thanks for that. I actually thought it was OK in this instance, because it's a description of the awards - as per their website - so that the description is consistent and accurate. But OK. Thanks for fixing those. The only thing I'd request is that you use Australian spelling please (eg; recognise) :). I will shorten the description when I add other awards. Please note however, this is likely to come up with other Australian music awards as well though. I will change the description so it's not exactly the same moving forward. Tobyjamesaus (talk) 06:47, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Each description will need to be completely re-written in your own words. Don't just make superficial changes. Typically the new version will be much shorter than the version found on the website. — Diannaa (talk) 19:02, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Again you have added a description copied from the NLMAs home page in this edit on October 12 and presumably elsewhere. Please don't use that description any more! It's copyright, and needs to be completely rewritten in your own words. Or use the version that I wrote: "The National Live Music Awards (NLMAs) commenced in 2016 to recognise contributions to the live music industry in Australia" — Diannaa (talk) 01:44, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Under the Surface edit

Hi Tobyjamesaus, when moving articles such as you did with Under the Surface to Under the Surface (Marit Larsen album), please be sure to change all incoming links to the renamed title as well. Thank you. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:50, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi starcheerspeaksnewslostwars
is there a way to know or see all the incoming links on a page? Tobyjamesaus (talk) 09:39, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Under "Tools", there's a link called "What links here" that will show you. Note that, in this case, your move has since been reverted by an admin. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 17:59, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

High Voltage edit

You will have noticed that AC/DC discography is a FLC. In preparation for submitting the list, with co-nominator VAUGHAN J. (TALK), we discussed whether High Voltage (1976) should be put into a Compilation albums table. I referred to previous discussions at AC/DC's talk page archive. It was determined to leave the album in the discography list, which typically shows only Studio albums. Consequently it was left in the Studio albums table.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:28, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I changed it back, since the international album is classified as a studio album, not a compilation album. It does 2 tracks have the Australian version of High Voltage and the T.N.T. album. — VAUGHAN J. (TALK) 08:46, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Shaidar cuebiyar, I didn't realise this had already been discussed so intensely (a decade ago). It seems like it got quite personal too... not good. I really appreciate you linking me to that chat. thanks. For the record, I believe it's a compilation album (for the reasons I put in the talk on the AC/DC talk page archive). Maybe the topic will be revisited at some stage. who knows. Thanks Tobyjamesaus (talk) 06:10, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Travis Collins edit

I have to say that you have the wrong information about Travis Collins. As a matter of fact he grew up in Campbelltown NSW and not in Cessnock. He use to busk on the streets in Campbelltown since I have been a long time friend of his for many years going back from High School. Trav is a very well respected and talented person/artist and his music will dominate the music industry for many decades to come and I will always support him in his music career. I love his work and him as a wonderful person and a true best friend and that’s all I can say. 110.21.50.246 (talk) 11:56, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

"His music will dominate the music industry for many decades to come", will it? Cool story bro. Ss112 13:59, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Duration templates outside of infoboxes edit

Hi Toby. Regarding your creation of Honor the Light, there is no point in using duration templates in track listings or anywhere outside of infoboxes, and even then, per Template:Infobox album#length (and Template:Infobox song#length), duration templates are redundant except in certain circumstances like using multiple lengths. APRA Music Awards of 2024 edit

For your consideration:

  1. Does APRA state that this is their 42nd annual awards? Consider: 1st awards were in 1982, logically 2024 should be their 43rd annual awards. To complicate matters, they skipped 1983 (no ceremony) but there are two ceremonies at article APRA Music Awards of 1989.
  2. Read this. Should this article be retitled/moved to 2024 APRA Music Awards?
    1. Should all APRA Music Awards of {year} be moved to {year} APRA Music Awards?
    2. Should all ARIA Music Awards of {year} be moved to {year} ARIA Music Awards?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:36, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Shaidar cuebiyar, re the name, I agree, it should be retitled to Year APRA Music Awards as you've suggested. I thought the same thing, but was just going with what was there.

As for the numbering, last year was the 41st as per APRA YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Mc1kSZYI3U , so I think it's safe to assume this year is the 42nd.Tobyjamesaus (talk) 01:53, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

  1. It seems that's acceptable.
  2. Do you feel up to taking the name issue to a multiple Requested move proposal? I argued against that change for ARIA's 2020 ceremony. Consensus settled for the change but only that year (and susbequent) are so-named. I do not have the energy to pursue the name issue further and will leave it for you to consider.

I don't do Spotify but do you? If so, could you check this. If its legit, you might have to remove "discontinued" from her discography.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 10:41, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please source additions of singles edit

Toby, addition of singles like this still require sources. Edits like this could be reverted for being unsourced and I'm sure you're aware of this, so I'm surprised to see you making them. If you do return to add sources, please avoid sources like Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal and the like per WP:AFFILIATE. Linking to sites like these can be seen as promotion of their product. Also, I've noticed that you still use Template:N/a for "non-album single" when Template:Non-album single and the plural Template:Non-album singles exist for these purposes. Thanks.
