Publishing prematurely edit

Hi, I've today sent three of your articles back to drafts, because none of them were ready to be published. Please don't publish articles that don't comply with the core requirements of verifiability and notability, because they will only be returned to drafts, or else deleted.

In any case, I don't understand why you submit drafts for review at AfC, and then move them into the main article space anyway? Given that you are a very new editor, I would suggest that until such time as you can reliable ascertain whether an article is ready for publishing, you continue to work through the AfC review process. Thank you. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:45, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your comments and notes and sorry for the trouble. I was instructed to move the entries into the main article space after I submitted the drafts for review at AfC.
I appreciate you sharing the resources regarding verifiability and notability. I've read both before I began either editing existing entries or creating new drafts. As I thought I've followed the guideline to the best of my knowledge, I was a little confused by the reason that's causing the rejection of these drafts and was wondering if you could help me clarify the requirements.
For context: All the drafts are created based on their existing wikipedia entries in Traditional Chinese. Since almost all of these entries do not have publications already written in English (even when they do, they are mostly film reviews), the majority of the English content is direct translation of the original Chinese entires and so are the references (except for a few that I was able to find English references).
Could you please let me know what would be the best way to move forward with these drafts to ensure that they comply with the requirements of verifiability and notability? You advice is deeply appreciated. Thank you! UWJSISA414TWA&C (talk) 17:50, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:LAU Kek-huat edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:LAU Kek-huat requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://dafilms.com/director/12465-lau-kek-huat. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. IMDb links edit

Hi. I note that you have been adding external links to IMDb, which is fine. However, you don't seem to be aware that there are specific template for doing that, namely {{IMDb title}} and {{IMDb name}}. These are to be preferred to the way you have been doing it, for reasons explained at WT:WikiProject Film/Archive 79#Masking imdb links as wikilinks: saving others like me having to clean up afterwards. Regards. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:13, 13 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

As an aside (and you have been doing nothing wrong) can you tell me exactly where you learned that the use of links like The Fourth Portrait would work? Those of us who tidy up such links and convert them to templates would like to know if there is some Help page or similar that's giving misleading advice when better methods exist. Thanks. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:36, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Thank you so much for your message and I'm sorry for all the extra work you have done to fix the IMDb hyperlinks I added. This might not be helpful at all, but I wasn't aware of any instructions associated with adding IMDb links. And I have been using visual editing instead of source editing so the IMDb template, unlike other items such as the award chart, wasn't readily apparent while I worked on those entries. The entries I created all existed in Taiwanese Mandarin, so I simply copied the format that was used and copied and pasted the hyperlink that came with it.
I tried to go back to edit the IMDb links on the other entries that I've created and saw that you've fixed all of them. Thank you so much for the edits and for sending me a message so that I can continue to learn in the process. UWJSISA414TWA&C (talk) 15:04, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very much for your prompt reply. It is very reasonable that you copied something you saw on another-language Wikipedia and didn't think it strange when it worked here as well. That certainly explains why we regularly get editors using that way of linking on the English articles, despite our trying hard to avoid that for the reasons mentioned in the link I supplied above. Each language has its own "rules" and many "rules" are just guidelines, in any case. Can you suggest somewhere you might have looked (on en: Wikipedia) for help to do IMDb links? If so, I'll see if we can add some better advice.... Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:58, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't regularly use VE myself (old dogs and new tricks), but I noticed that via Insert > Template in VE, you can find the "correct" (according to Mike and me) imdb templates. Hope this helps some. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:31, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

August 2023 edit

Hi UWJSISA414TWA&C! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. November 2023 edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from one or more pages to another page. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. For example: Content in this edit is translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk pages of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, please add attribution retrospectively for that also, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. S0091 (talk) 19:47, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
