Harrison discography

Hi Tomcat7. As mentioned on the talk/FLC comments page, I've added dates where I could for those album releases. You've been very generous with your time on my GA noms over the past year, so sure, I'll help out with that introductory text. Might need a few days before I can work on it, though, since my time on wikipedia is quite limited. Got some thoughts and ideas on the discography article that I didn't leave on the talk page ...

  • Not sure about that #23 chart placing for "Deep Blue" (a stray inclusion, from Bangla Desh's US chart peak maybe?)
  • I really don't think you should bother with links to Lennon and McCartney discography pages. (Link to Starr discography is a good idea, definitely, because George co-wrote and produced a lot of Ringo's biggest hits.)
  • I realise it would create more work for you, but how about including Dutch Mega Charts chart positions, and the same for Belgian, French and South African charts? Harrison had a few hits in those countries, and in the case of his 1974 releases, the inclusion of chart peaks in Holland would provide a useful picture of his continued international popularity, even if his success in the UK was coming to an end. I've recently added some Dutch, Belgian and SA chart positions to the "Dark Horse", "Ding Dong, Ding Dong" and Dark Horse articles, so hopefully you'll find useful links there. Happy to help where I can.

Also, if you've got time, I'd really appreciate it if you could do some more GARs for me ... PaulMacDermott recently gave "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)" a preliminary "pass", but has asked for a second review in case his text-to-speech program missed something. I've also nominated the "Dark Horse" song article (which I think Paul said he might take on, maybe not), "Ding Dong", and an all-new piece "Hari's on Tour (Express)". Any help you can give would be fantastic! Thanks, Tomcat7. Happy new year to you. JG66 (talk) 06:37, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi again Tomcat7. I'm really sorry I've not gone back to that Harrison discog FLC as I'd promised. (I've been busy with the George Harrison FAC – something I sort of wish I hadn't bothered with, quite honestly.) Do you still want me to work on the lead-in text? My thinking is you should completely do away with any discussion of Harrison's early days in skiffle groups; also forget about Harrison's introduction to sitar. All that's needed regarding the Beatles, I think, is a brief mention of Harrison's growth as a songwriter before discussion of Wonderwall Music. With all that earlier text cut out, this intro can then concentrate more on Harrison solo releases. That's my thoughts on this anyway(!). If you are still wanting to get this through FLC, do you want me to go ahead and make those changes? Regards, and apologies again for getting distracted – JG66 (talk) 22:36, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi Tomcat7. I'm very sorry I missed the window for this FLC – I went there just now with completely rewritten intro paragraphs ready to paste in for your approval, only to find the FAC had been shut down ... Unless you've got any objections, I'll go ahead and change the introductory text as I'd planned to anyway. My suggested introduction cuts down the Beatles-related text completely (there's certainly nothing about the Rebels or how he came upon the sitar); on the other hand, there's way more about Harrison's discography – which is the subject of the list obviously. I had planned to paste the text into an archive page first, so right now I don't have citations added in. Won't be difficult to dig them up, so give me a day or so and I'll rework that intro text. As mentioned above, I suggest you add chart positions for Holland, Belgium, France and South Africa. Honestly, with some more relevant introductory text and a more comprehensive list of international chart positions, I don't see how this discog can fail next time around. Apologies again, but I do wish you'd have communicated more – I've never been sure, for instance, whether it's okay by you if I completely reworked your text. JG66 (talk) 14:58, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
After seeing the banner you'd added, I've cut down the text and there are now 27 words more than you had back on 23 January. The important thing is the text is now relevant to a Harrison discography without dwelling on his work with the Beatles and how he came to play the sitar. But I don't get you, Tomcat7. I offer to help, you never respond directly to my messages, and when I do (finally) rewrite the text as promised, you add a maintenance banner rather than getting in touch with me about it. Do you want to work together or not? Do you want me to just leave it alone – is that what this is all about? JG66 (talk) 14:57, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I did not notice your reply since I always receive a bunch of notices. There were a bot edit and vandalism, so I totally missed your edit... --Tomcat (7) 17:41, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 January newsletter

Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years.   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader (  Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years.   12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:

Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.

This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:

  •   Ed! (submissions) was the first to score bonus points, with Portland-class cruiser, a good article.
  •   Hawkeye7 (submissions) has the highest overall bonus points, as well as the highest scoring article, thanks to his work on Enrico Fermi, now a good article. The biography of such a significant figure to the history of science warrants nearly five times the normal score.
  •   HueSatLum (submissions) claimed bonus points for René Vautier and Nicolas de Fer, articles that did not exist on the English Wikipedia at the start of the year; a first for the WikiCup. The articles were eligible for bonus points because of fact they were both covered on a number of other Wikipedias.

Also, a quick mention of   The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Akumajo Dracula Famicom Best

Hello Tomcat7 apology in advance if I'm sending you a wrong message. But probably in one of your edits you may have renamed Akumajo Dracula Famicom Best to Akumajo Dracula Best. However your edit is wrong or incorrect to say properly. All the sources state the name of the original print to be Akumajo Dracula Famicom Best. Akumajo Dracula Best should be either included as a separated album if you want to put it on the list. I have however mentioned about the reprint in the notes for the original album. Again apologies if you were not the one who had edited the album's name. This list is a featured list so needless to mention it is a very important one. I'm only trying to make sure the list does not get vandalized as happened with List of most expensive films. Thank you. KahnJohn27 (talk) 12:09, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Dostoyevsky PR

I'm afraid I can't really help you with that one. Literature is really not my forte, and I think a subject like Dostoyevsky needs someone who knows the material. The best I could manage would be a copy-edit (and I wouldn't be entirely comfortable doing that, knowing nothing of the subject), but I would imagine you are looking for more than that. Also, I'm a little short of time both on and off wiki at the moment and could not really guarantee that I could spend the required amount of time at the PR. You really need a literature person. Sorry! Sarastro1 (talk) 18:10, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Vgmdb and castlevania

I'm sorry but i don't know how you are saying vgmdb is not a reliable source? How can you decide for yourself that if a source is reliable or not. Until there's a proper consensus on it you cannot say which source is unreliable. If others too agree that Vgmdb is not a reliable source you have no right to call it unreliable let alone revert edits made with using the particular site as a source. If you don't agree with Vgmdb i'll list two more sites Castlevania realm and konami's site itself which backup the info on Vgmdb. Square Enix does not publish all the albums of Castlevania so obviously it won't have the info of those albums available. Also feaured status is just a tag. As shakespeare said what is in a name? Last one thing I'm not insulting or being biased but how did this list get a featured status anyway. Many months ago it was a complete mess. TransVannian (talk) 13:56, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

If the consensus will say it's not trustworthy then you can freely undo the list but until then let others decide if it's reliable or not when they reach a consenus. Until then please don't undo the edits. TransVannian (talk) 07:05, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Lvivske. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Rus' Khaganate without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry: I restored the removed content. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Not sure why you're reverting, but please discuss such moves other than just saying "revert" Львівське (говорити) 16:48, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Lenzites warnieri

Hello! Your submission of Lenzites warnieri at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! BlueMoonset (talk) 17:16, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

To follow up on the above, there are issues with the article itself—separate from the issue of finding an acceptable hook—that need to be addressed before the nomination can be approved. Please be sure to take a look at these as well. Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:43, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
