Watchlist suggestion

edit

Hi Tassedethe, may I suggest that you put Frank Buckland and Frank Buckland (politician) to your watchlist? Your edit to the dab page is not too dissimilar to what I did a couple of days ago, and that resulted in the Frank Buckland (politician) page being moved from its COMMONNAME to the person's full name. I very much suspect that the other editor's pride has been damaged, and that this isn't the end of the affair. Schwede66 00:22, 22 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Why you revert my edit at Subodh Marandeya articleHoni02 (talk) 03:54, 25 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Because those were not valid categories for an article on a person:
Category:Lists of Indian writers removed as this not a list
Category:Works by Indian writers removed as this not a work
Category:Works by Indian people as above
Category:Indian people by occupation removed a container category for Category:Indian writers,Category:Indian politicians etc.

Proposed deletion of Jeremy Lane (disambiguation)

edit

The article Jeremy Lane (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per WP:TWODABS, now that the American footballer has been made the primary topic. See Talk:Jeremy Lane\Requested move 07 May 2015.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. : Noyster (talk), 11:24, 1 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rhys Morgan (rugby player)

edit

Hi Tassedethe,

You recently moved Rhys Morgan (rugby union player) to Rhys Morgan (rugby player). In rugby articles (rugby union player) is used for rugby union players while (rugby league players) is used for rugby league players. (rugby player) is used for those who have represented both codes. Rhys Morgan has not represented both codes so should remain as Rhys Morgan (rugby union player). Thanks, FruitMonkey (talk) 23:03, 4 July 2015 (UTC).Reply

I think you're mistaken. There are numerous rugby union players with the disambiguator (rugby player) who have not played rugby league. e.g. Joseph Booth (rugby player), George Bowen (rugby player), William Bowen (rugby player), Keith Bradshaw (rugby player), etc. Standard disambiguators for rugby players are (rugby player), (rugby union) or (rugby league). (rugby union player) is not standard and that is why I moved it. Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 23:17, 4 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Glass eEnclosure

edit

Is one upper or lower case letter in an article title really enough to aid a reader? You changed "Glass Enclosure (song)" to "Glass Enclosure" and left "Glass enclosure" as a disambiguation page that has a link to "Glass Enclosure (song)". I don't see how this has helped, as people will probably search using only lower case letters, which no longer leads to the targeted song page appearing as an automatic option. Would it be more beneficial to readers to change it back? EddieHugh (talk) 09:09, 17 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

It's fine to have two pages that only differ by capitalization, see WP:DIFFCAPS. When I type 'glass enclosure' (lower case) in to the Wikipedia search box it offers both Glass Enclosure and glass enclosure so I don't see a usability issue. Tassedethe (talk) 23:25, 17 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Because the person looking for the song previously could see the song option and go to it immediately, whereas now the person will probably just hit enter and go to the disambig page, not knowing the subtleties of Wikipedia policy on the capitalization of page names. Deleted article restored

edit

On 22 July you tagged Benzinga (company) for deletion as a repost of the article deleted as a result of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Benzinga. I agreed with you , and deleted the article. The creator of the article has now posted to my talk page claiming that the new article was sufficiently different from the one discussed at the AfD discussion. From experience, I have found that there is such a wide variation among editors' views as to what is "sufficiently identical" for speedy deletion criterion G4 that unless it is really obvious that nobody could reasonably regard the criterion as applying, it is rarely worth arguing to defend a G4 deletion, so I have restored the article. I am not removing the speedy deletion tag, but if it gets removed then you may like to go to a second AfD. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 15:31, 18 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Juniors and seniors

edit

Hey, the couple of pages you just moved only didn't look like they needed to be disambiguated because we keep using about five different formats of demarcating "junior" and "senior". I don't particular care which one we use as long as it is consistent, but the consensus last time I brought it up was to go with "Joe Bloggs Jr.", and trying to move the articles you just did to that format doesn't work because there are different biographies already at those titles. I really appreciate the work you've been doing in making sense of all-over-the-place disambiguation, but would you be able to sort that particular little mess out since you're the one with the tools to do it? Hello Tassedethe, just an FYI, you look like you have some work scheduled on the John Flanagan/Jack Flanagan disambiguation pages (per User:Tassedethe/dabs/jack and User:Tassedethe/dabs/dablist). There was a third Jack-Flanagan-article created just the other day, and a bit of work was done trying to disentangle the correct title-naming-conventions for the three Jack Flanagan wikipedia-articles.

Feel free to further improve what has been done so far, o'course, if you wish. Thanks for all the work you've been doing, your contrib-history is awesome, and thanks for the tea & bisbuits in your page-notice, delicious.  :-)     75.108.94.227 (talk) 22:04, 9 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

List of defunct airlines of United States

edit

I see that you redirected this article to List of defunct airlines of the United States, as that topic already exists. Your edit was undone a couple days later and the article is back. Do you think that there should be a merge? Or maybe a deletion discussion since both articles are effectively unsourced (there's one reference for each, but neither reference provides information for the whole list)? -Niceguyedc Go Huskies! 01:41, 20 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Michael Herman

edit

Hi, you added a disambiguator to the article Michael Herman (mathematician) in this edit. Why was it done? If two articles are on similar level of notability only the latter article should be added the disambiguator, not both, unless you can show conclusive evidence otherwise. Please consider reverting the move as you are a sysop (so can do it technically but I can't). Solomon7968 09:40, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

I notice that you have resumed editing but didn't replied to my query. May I ask why? Solomon7968 16:44, 27 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
That edit was 4 years ago and I don't see anything wrong with it so I will not be reverting myself. See also WP:2DABS:If there are only two topics to which a given title might refer, and one is the primary topic, then a disambiguation page is not needed. Clearly in this case there is no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC as the notability levels are similar. Tassedethe (talk) 16:49, 27 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Okay thanks for the link (I didn't read it before). I realize policy (or presumably consensus) is against me. I may or may not start a WP:RM but I would like to point out the long term significance clause applies. Between a sports figure and academic with more or less similar notability the academic gets far less coverage but clearly is more relevant in long term significance. You may want to keep it in mind in future moves. Solomon7968 17:00, 27 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Brian Burke

edit

What was your rationale for moving this to a disambiguation page? Brian Burke the Premier is one of the most significant Australian politicians of the 1980s (and of significance in the 2000s as well), while the footballers and the Wisconsin politician are completely minor. The ice hockey executive seems to be the only one with a claim to significant notability but still doesn't come close to the Australian Burke. That he has multiple books about him personally should have been a clear pointer that he was, in fact, the primary topic. The Drover's Wife (talk) 04:00, 5 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Over the last 90 days the Australian politician page has received 2480 page views. In the same period Brian Burke (ice hockey) has received 6763 views, i.e well over twice as many. The politician doesn't meet the requirements of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Tassedethe (talk) 04:11, 5 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Henry Koster (disambiguation)

edit

You put a PROD on Henry Koster (disambiguation), but doesn't point 2 of CSD G6 applies to it. I'm not 100% sure what the CSD rules are in relation to a current PROD, but shouldn't the page just go? -Niceguyedc Go Huskies! 08:27, 11 October 2015 (UTC) (edited 08:37, 11 October 2015 (UTC))Reply

I wish it did but as it stands it doesn't. In the text of WP:CSD G6 it says "...only links to one extant article..." and therefore it can't be used as there are two articles Henry Koster and Henry Koster (author). Tassedethe (talk) 15:10, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. The first part of the Twinkle explanation for "G6: Unnecessary disambiguation page" is This only applies for orphaned disambiguation pages which either: (1) disambiguate two or fewer existing Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); I think when the word "extant" is used, it is referring to links other than the base title of the disambiguation page. The situation calls for the hatnote that's on Henry Koster (that points to Henry Koster (author), not the disambiguation page), without need for a disambiguation page. -Niceguyedc Go Huskies! 17:44, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
If you look at the history of {{db-disambig}} you can see it also used to say "two or fewer" but was rewritten to match the text at WP:CSD G6. I assume the Twinkle text was not updated. As I said I wish I could speedy these types of pages but some editors seem to like them (and will pad them out with e.g. fictional characters). Tassedethe (talk) 17:59, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ok. That looks reasonable. -Niceguyedc Go Huskies! 18:08, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Some of the entries under Alumni>Sport in the above article were removed as 'unsourced'. I don't understand why those in particular. You would really have your work cut out for you if you went around visiting articles and removing similar items. I know of other organisations who include unsourced entries in similar lists. The alumni listed may not be famous enough to each have their own article but ARE important enough to fellow past students, and to the school, to warrant inclusion. ```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by Henry Sowerberry (talkcontribs) 04:55, 23 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
