Underway! edit

I see your students are underway. Good luck! Feel free to let me know if any of them are running into trouble with the wiki community in one way or the other, here or via email. The two main places I see students run into trouble are 1) Editing well-established featured articles in a manner that is not suitable for these long-term stable articles and 2) Poor sourcing with improper formatting (tell them to use the citation templates, don't just insert refs manually like in a term paper). Also, be aware that Articles for creation is a backlogged pit where drafts go to die, better to work up a new article in a sandbox and then move it directly when the time comes that it's ready (I can help with that). Basically, if you need a "how NOT to edit" example, try this one: [1] (gotta watch out for those mean badgers in Anaconda!) ;-) Montanabw(talk) 23:51, 22 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks for the tips and your willingness to help. I plan to have them improving the Carroll College page (which was sparse and out of date), some academic topics that are currently poorly covered, and providing some extra information about elections in various parts of the world. We'll work on the citations. I'll let you know if I have questions. Street.alex (talk) 05:56, 24 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
    • It DOES need improvement, but the detail on every campus dorm, no (I tossed it) ... it's not the "Campus Life" home page! LOL! Also, be sure they footnote everything and are careful not to do a word-for-word copypaste (or even a too-close paraphrase); that's the stuff that usually trips up newbies. Against The Grain: A Deep History of the Earliest States moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Against The Grain: A Deep History of the Earliest States, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. New articles generally need at least two (but preferably more) references from reliable sources that are independent of the subject that discuss the subject with significant coverage (trivial mentions do not contribute to notability).(See Rule 42) Information that can't be referenced to reliable sources should be removed from the draft because verifiability is necessary for information added to Wikipedia.
I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of Draft: before the article title) where you can work on the article with minimal disruption from other users while you improve it.
When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready to be published, you can move it back to the article space yourself. However, I recommend that instead of moving it yourself that you follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template that I have added to the page. This submits the article to be reviewed by experienced editors that specialize in helping new editors write their first articles. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 04:57, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
