re: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Build-A-Bear Workshop

There's a difference between articles that only cite press releases and not having anything to cite other than PR material. Its entirely possible that the original creator might have had a conflict of interest or simply didn't understand our reference policy, and when a contributor encounters an article with problems such as this, its better to attempt add references and remove the POV before taking it to articles for deletion.

That being said, if there were no sources available other than press releases, it would be a entirely different situation, I would probably side with you on deletion. -Senseless!... says you, says me 16:18, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I'd like to help out. I just need to gather sources first. I'm not sure how long this will take. Although he is notable in regards to tai chi chuan, general Chen Wangting is perhaps not a very important figure in the overall history of China (or even the Ming Dynasty for that matter), and will not be covered in a whole lot of texts or journal articles. Maltese (dog)

Since you're both an admin and a member of the Dogs WikiProject, I'm bugging you with this. When you get a chance, could you drop by the Maltese talk page and add some input? There is a months-long edit war going on over the heritage/history of the dog (with nationalistic overtones) that has completely ruined any attempt at moving this article forward. I'm at the point where I wonder "how much is too much" with respect to the history of the dog. GA Sweeps update

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am contacting you because you have contributed or expressed interest in the GA sweeps process. Last month, only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process with 163 articles reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

All exempt articles that have reached FA status have now been moved to a separate section at the end of the running total page. I went through all of the members' running totals and updated the results to reflect the move. As a result your reviewed article total may have decreased a bit. After removing duplicate articles and these FAs, the running total leaves us at ~1,400 out of 2,808 articles reviewed.

If you currently have any articles on hold or at GAR, please consider concluding those reviews and updating your results. I'm hoping that this new list and increased efforts can help us to increase the number of reviews. We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you know of anybody that can assist please direct them to the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, will get an award when they reach that mark. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. I saw that you semi-protected the article for vandalism. I'm not sure if you are aware of it but all the vandalism came from one of our infamous vandals, Bambifan101. As of right now all the accounts and IPs of the user have been blocked, so I don't think protection is necessary at this point. As such, would you consider unprotecting the article at this point? GA Sweeps June update

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 396 articles were swept in May! That more than doubles our most successful month of 163 swept articles in September 2007 (and the 2 articles swept in April)! I plan to be sending out updates at the beginning of each month detailing any changes, updates, or other news until Sweeps are completed. So if you get sick of me, keep reviewing articles so we can be done (and then maybe you'll just occasionally bump into me). We are currently over 60% done with Sweeps, with just over a 1,000 articles left to review. With over 40 members, that averages out to about 24 articles per person. If each member reviews an article a day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. I know that may be asking for a lot, but it would allow us to complete Sweeps and allow you to spend more time writing GAs, reviewing GANs, or focusing on other GARs (or whatever else it is you do to improve Wikipedia) as well as finish ahead of the two-year mark coming up in August. I recognize that this can be a difficult process at times and appreciate your tenacity in spending time in ensuring the quality of the older GAs. Feel free to recruit other editors who have reviewed GANs in the past and might be interested in the process. The more editors, the less the workload, and hopefully the faster this will be completed. If you have any questions about reviews or the process let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Mike Arrington

My frustration is tempered by your use of tosh. I still believe that the article is too light and upbeat and that a number of people have tried to contribute a balancing element (often by adding "is a troll") so I attempted it in a calmer manner. Perhaps the material is out of place (or rubbish) but I believe that it is verifiable that he engages in yellow journalism (or its online equivalent) and makes incendiary remarks and that this information can be added to the article without compromising neutrality (perhaps by better attributing and substantiating biased statements). Perhaps something along the lines of the Praise and Criticism section for William Randolph Hearst or George W. Bush's Public Image and Perception section would be more appropriate.

GA Sweeps July update

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 290 articles were swept in June! Last month was our second most successful month in reviewing articles (after May). We are currently over 70% done with Sweeps, with just under 800 articles left to review. With nearly 50 members, that averages out to about 15 articles per person. If each member reviews an article every other day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. This may sound difficult, but if everyone completes their reviews, Sweeps would be completed in less than two years when we first started (with only four members!). With the conclusion of Sweeps, each editor could spend more time writing GAs, reviewing at the backlogged GAN, or focusing on other GARs. Again, I want to thank you for using your time to ensure the quality of the older GAs. Feel free to recruit other editors who have reviewed GANs in the past and might be interested in the process. Help with a page?

How do I get an editor's help with a page? I'm having problems with the Silver Brumby page http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Silver_Brumby&oldid=301434455 I've done research (hours of it) to support my side (horse colors), while the other person is just using an old book (which has the incorrect information.) So we're reverting back and forth, and I'd like the correct information to be on the page. I've posted to the discussion page twice about why I changed what I did, with links, and stating the correct information. So how do I get help now? Thanks, Narm. Reinstating Links on J. Krishnamurti Page

This is an arbitrary deletion by someone who has no knowledge of the subject at hand. On the principle outlined, no WP pages would have external links as they would all be merely classed as 'web directories'. This means countless thousands of WP articles would have to have links deleted, which is obviously illogical. These 5 links deleted are a tiny but salient representation drawn from around 1.2 million results for J. Krishnamurti on Google. 5 out of 1.2m is not a web directory. Official links, such as Schools, have also been deleted, which is manifestly wrong as they represent the very core of this man's life and work, which would be apparent to anyone who had actually read the article concerned. Electromagnetic Torture

Hi! You recently deleted Electromagnetic Torture as patent nonsense. Could you expand a little on why it qualifies as G1? I originally removed the G1 tag, because I didn't feel that the article was incomprehensible text or gibberish. Basically what it said was "Here's the subject. It's hard to find information about the subject, because there are no resources available. Until now! Here is my blog, which discusses the subject." (Based on memory, obviously I can't see deleted content.) I then tagged it as G11, which may be questionable, because of the existence of the first sentence, which tells "what" the subject is, but I felt that the sole purpose of the article was to promote someone's blog, and I think content like that should be deleted under G11. I'm still trying to learn the nuances of CSD, so could you help me out and explain why the article qualified as G1? Thanks, Jafeluv (talk) 11:45, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Distributed Wikipedia page: API outline(s)

[1] steven, thought you might be interested to know: i did rough outlines of the two APIs that are part of the DW proposal. the GUI-front-end-API-outline is utterly trivial, simple and rather monotonous drudge-work to implement; the back-end inter-node distributed one is a hairy mash of protocols i've encountered, and needs some _serious_ thrashing. i started writing and couldn't stop - but it can hardly be called "an outline". whoops. TWiki

The change in direction for TWiki that resulted in a fork by its key contributors remains a notable event in the history of the TWiki project. I believe it is appropriate for this pivotal event to be mentioned briefly in the lead paragraph for the article. Isaac Lin (talk) 04:33, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

The change in governance alone is not particularly notable, except for the fact that it resulted in a change in the development community which is a challenge that TWiki has had to face (the cited CNET article talks about this challenge). The notability of Foswiki is a side issue; note even if it has not been deemed to have independent notability, it can remain notable within the context of the TWiki project. The Pioneercourthouse troll has been at it for 3 years now. Reducing the protection to a few weeks? You might as well remove protection right now, as he'll be on it the second the protection is lifted anyway. Spain... on the road Again

With respect to Spain... on the road Again, I did not say that stubs are exempt from the sourcing guidelines. What I said was that currently there is nothing in the article that is not in the actual episode credits themselves. I.E. there is nothing yet in the article that needs a specific source. Chickens as pets

The information you disagree with was taken from the Chicken article and others; why was it allowed there but not here? Domestic turkey

Thanks for explaining why you changed the word "butchered" back to "harvested." I guess you're more knowledgeable of turkey farmer lingo than I am. However, I think we should use the word butchered (or killed or slaughtered) because that's what they're doing. I checked Dictionary.com for the definition of "harvest" and the meaning you give is not there. So I think it's jargon used in the turkey industry, and I would like the article to be written in standard English. We could include the fact that the term "harvest" is used by turkey farmers. Would you agree to rewording it to say "Hens are killed (or "harvested" as turkey farmers say)..."? --DBlomgren (talk) 02:42, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Chickens as pets

I noticed you removed the section I added on chickens as pets, for information related to feeding. This contained important information for people keeping chickens as pets. Quite obviously chickens need food and water and to omit a complete section on this simply because you believed it to be a 'how to guide' is heavy handed and inconsiderate. If it was felt that the section needed a revision then this could have been easily edited. Question

I sort of volunteered to help improve an article on merino wool. I'd like to make some factual claims about its properties, and feel that I should cite references for these. Most of my knowledge on the subject comes from word of mouth from the hiking, cycling, and kayaking communities, some online reviews, and sources like that, which probably won't make good references. Is it acceptable to cite a manufacturer or retailer, for example, this article ( http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles/wool+clothing.html ) is much more detailed than I would expect, and backs up my anecdotal experience as well as that of the community. Must I seek out more academic sources to quote - ones I'm not currently familiar with? Can I assume it's better to add content to an article that needs it, even if I can't find references for some of the material, and hope somebody else will come along and add them?

Images in pixels

Don't be silly, of course images can be sized in pixels, if it were forbidden there would be no point in having the facility. Also the "lede" picture is usually larger than normal thumbnail, from WP:MOS:

• Examples where adjusting the size may be appropriate include, but are not limited to, the following: ..... Lead images, which should usually be no wider than "upright=1.7" ("300px")
