Gibraltar

Hi Spangineer. I'm spending a lot of time and even money to explain what's going on (see Talk:Disputed status of Gibraltar. I expect a strong position on how Gibraltarian must play from now on. I do know that he won't provide any source but the usual crap of qualifying me as a troll, fascist and so on, but as long as I'm playing by the very wikipedia rules, I'm expecting some "protection" from the administrators. I've seen that your Request for Comments has gone nowhere, so that I'm just waiting your instructions on how to proceed (arbitration, for instance?). Disputed states of Gibraltar

Gibraltarian is requesting unprotection (again). What do you think? I'm not unprotecting it until you say so. If you don't feel like it's ready, we'll keep it protected. Don't sweat it man. I'm an admin remember? :-) Been there many times. I just went through a 2 month period where I had 2 arbcoms back to back. One finished...and then the moron that got me into the 2nd one came back from a 6 month suspension. So I understand ya. Well keep an eye on it. • Thanks, that is exactly what I need to know. I combined the two sections (after another look, I certainly agree that the two sections are essentially the same thing. I have no idea why the two sections were separate in the first place) and linked the terms in the table headings to sub-articles. Though you said that you are not an expert in astronomy, what you told me indicates that you are experienced with making articles as clear as possible. Request for Mariah Carey

I noticed that on Talk:Céline Dion, you collected quotes from reviews of Dion's work from ProQuest and left a list of them on the talk page. I was wondering if you could do the same for Mariah Carey? It would be extremely helpful to the article, as currently it relies a little too much on reviews from the website All Music Guide. Searching on ProQuest has been recommended to me before (see Wikipedia:Peer review/Robert Clark (actor)/archive1) for finding print references, but since I don't live in the United States, I don't have access to it. Electroslag welding

That's a great image you added to electroslag welding. I know they take awhile to draw up, but do you accept image requests for other welding methods?

Hi, thanks for the compliment. Yes, I accept requests and will try to do one for GTAW. By the way, I really don't know that much about welding and created the image as best I could from reading about it. So if you can imrove it, go for it (or send suggestions). GTAW

Hello Spangineer,

That article is pretty good! I made a couple minor changes and added a section on just why GTAW is so hard. The article does lack significantly in one place and I'm not quite sure where this would be worked in: the "cleaning action" required for good quality aluminum welds. I see some light details on this process but to me it is one of the most fascinating aspects of GTAW. There is mention that the gas ions only travel towards the negative electrode but no mention that the oxides are removed when the gas ions physically smack into them. A good GTAW machine will support waveform shaping on AC which lets the operator dial in the amount of time spent in the DCEN and DCEP phase, striking a balance between cleaning action and penetration. I'd work that all in there myself but I don't want to destroy the flow and great prose of the article. Let me know if you have any other questions. Triddle 00:56, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

The waveform shaping is in addition to the square-wave output of the machine. The shaping (called balance/dig on our Miller machines (lower left control) lets you actually set the time spent in each part of the AC cycle. A balanced wave spends equal time at the + and - sections; the unbalanced wave would spend more or less time in the + side, for instance. This is how you choose between greater cleaning action or greater penetration during welding. As for pulsed and dabber - absolutely add it in. I've never heard of dabber so now you've got my curiosity. One more comment: an instructor at my school used to TIG up nuclear power reactor parts (I'm going to guess it was the high pressure system parts, but don't quote me on that). Each weld was x-rayed for quality and the only thing that could possibly do it with out inclusions or other garbage was TIG. It sure impressed us as its a great example of why the process is required. Triddle 01:41, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

The article in question is in direct violation of Wizard of the Coast's copyright and, as I understand it, in direct violation of Wikipedia policy. First of all, your threats are both unconstructive and could be used in as proof of your inappropriate attitude towards the law. Cease your threats of imposing a "ban" at once. My edits are far from unconstructive, they are keeping Wikipedia in line with the law. Yes, the text is directly lifted from the WotC published book "Power of the Jedi" and so is in direct violation of US copyright law. University of Miami criticism section=

thanks for previously removing the vandalism from the UM page. The criticism section has been repeatedly deleted for maybe a dozen times now, and we have been having to just keep putting it back up. Finally, someone prtotected it- but with the vandalsim up (and the criticism down). If you could add your input on the discussion section it would be helpful. Thanks, jcdpi

Concerning welding power supplies:

Should we split out the transformer welding power supplies and the inverter supplies, so it will have three sections:

    Transformer power supplies
    Motor-generator supplies
    Inverter supplies

I should also be able to get some decent photos of the inside of a transformer supply showing the sliding-core arrangement that varies the inductive coupling between the primary and secondary, and a photo or three (shot through a microscope) that shows the surface etching in TIG welding.

(I haven't figured out how to put up photos; any suggestions?)

On the good side, I do have some decent photos (taken by holding my digicam up to a microscope eyepiece) of aluminium TIG welds, showing accentuated etch from the AC.

Spanish help

Hey Spang, if you have some time on your hands, I wonder if you could offer some help. Although my Spanish is (very) rusty, I'm attempting my first major translation; both the full Spanish version and my English one are now at User:Dmcdevit/Workshop. I wonder if you could look over it. The major problems I have are:

• "el patrimonio bibliográfico y hemerográfico" which I've awkwardly translated as "the bibliographic and periodical heritage"
• "productores fonográficos" or "phonogramas" and "videogramas", which I just can't figure out
• And this sentence which I can't make head nor tail of: "Fijar los derechos a cargo de los usuarios, cuando corresponda, por la utilización de sus servicios y bienes culturales, así como los derechos por documentos y publicaciones que emita."

Cola de Caballo image

Thanks for the feedback on my FPC. I withdrew the nomination because it obviously wasn't going to pass, but I thought I'd ask you about one of your comments. What are you referring to when you say "purple CA"? Someone else mentioned purple near the top of the picture as well, but I'm not seeing it. That might be because I don't know what "CA" means. Any suggestions on how to avoid it (whatever 'it' is) in future shots? Oh, and there's no reason to be sorry; I like the picture enough to be able to still like it even after finding out that no one else does =). • Sure, "purple CA" (Chromatic aberration) or "purple fringing" is caused when the optics in a camera disperse the light (like a prism) as they focus it and cause the separation of colors which is most apparent where there is a very bright area right next to a very dark area in the image. --Deglr6328 01:50, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits, I didn't really know how to approach the formatting. I have added a reference for the portion of the article you requested it for. If you desire more references, just say so. The sub disciplines can be referenced by refering to the leading textbooks in each of the areas and, if you desire, I can provide these references in a few hours time. I have been trying to remove the second lead picture which I feel clutters the article but have been met by resistance from another editor. If you have any opinion on this (for or against), your viewpoint would be most welcomed. Otherwise thanks again for your work and comments.
