Dublin meetup

I mentioned this to Mrs 333 last night and her response was "You had me at cheese and wine, when are we going?" Watch this space.... Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:48, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: Brilliant! Something to look forward to! Smirkybec (talk) 13:07, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
We have to have at least 1 in real life at a weekend when those of us outside the smoke can come up ☕ Antiqueight chatter 14:05, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh definitely, we deserve a bit of craic IRL! Smirkybec (talk) 14:28, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Special Barnstar
For your help in getting O'Connell Street to good article status, have a barnstar. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:51, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
@Ritchie333: Thank you so much! Here's to a few more! Smirkybec (talk) 11:08, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Hey, it was good to hear you chatting about what you (and we) have been up to recently - a very engaging presentation. Should have gone to bed earlier than 1:30am though .... welp. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:15, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

It was brilliant to chat with you, thank you so much for attending! I was certainly feeling the effects of staying up so late today as well - bit too frazzled for much editing, but tomorrow is a new day! Smirkybec (talk) 20:00, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
@Ritchie333: As a P.S. I just saw this tweet from a set of presentations today on the history of Dublin (sadly missed it myself!) but the further reading slide looks good! I have the Dickinson book in my to-read pile (it is quite the tome!). I'm planning on treating myself to some of the Rowley books over the next few months - they should help with the more suburban areas as well as 20th century architecture. I've seen MacManus present, her work is on Dublin suburbs as well, very interesting stuff!
As you mentioned railways etc, you might find this account on Irish Railway Architecture of interest as well!

Thanks

Thanks for joining our WikiWednesday yesterday and giving an interesting presentation! I didn't take note at the time -- what were the food articles you said needed better pictures? I could probably use an at-home photo project (although for similar reasons I also wouldn't be making black/white pudding). — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:19, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

@Rhododendrites: Thank you so much, it was such a pleasure and great fun to chat with the group, and has me hatching plans for how we could do similar things in Ireland. I might be in touch about Discord with you. The list article has improved a bit, but the main article on Irish cuisine along with many of the articles in the category for Irish food are quite sad, short little articles. The image for Boxty is quite unrepresentative (and would be veggie!) I'm quite surprised to see very few articles in the Irish-American cuisine category - I had never heard of Irish potato candy!! It sounds good :) Smirkybec (talk) 20:10, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
Happy to answer questions about Discord (although I'm relatively new to it myself).
I'd never heard of Irish potato candy, either. The description made me laugh out loud. Coconut, vanilla, and cinnamon... yup, sounds like potatoes and Ireland!
Currently eyeing that cheese category... — Rhododendrites talk \\ 20:34, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
@Rhododendrites: I keep threatening to try and do an Irish Wiki Loves Cheese, but I fear it would just me eating an unholy amount of cheese! Smirkybec (talk) 21:09, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
My recommendation, analogous to the sometimes unhealthy relationship WikiNYC has with pizza, is to just incorporate it as a normal part of every single event. :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 21:12, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
