Welcome

Hello, Sigma 7/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you will enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! You can sign your name on talk and voting pages using four tildes, (~~~~), which produces your username, the time, and the date. Re Transpired

Yes. I used the word because I thought it was implied by "arrived by European knowledge", which I took as "became known to Europeans". But, to tell the truth, I didn't understand the original sentence, so I was guessing at its meaning. Rintrah 05:19, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't follow you? What are you talking about speedying something from my userspace? SWATJester Ready Aim Fire! 16:15, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Nevermind I figured it out. Yeah the guy wrote the page has decided he wants to take over my user page for me or something, I told him to back off. Didn't realize that he accidentally put it into mainspace. SWATJester Ready Aim Fire! 16:18, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Ensemble Gombert

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Ensemble Gombert, which you proposed for deletion, because I feel that this article should not be deleted from Wikipedia. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still feel the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 16:01, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Careful on the Edit Conflicts

When you've been given notice of an edit conflict, you need to be careful to resolve it without undoing the work of a previous editor unless there is very good reason to undo it:

Climate Cooperation

About the Climate Cooperation page - I've put a hang on tag on and left a message on the talk page.

I can't quite see how it can be more objective - perhaps you could give me guidance.

Will Howard 17:35, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Not sure if this was or automatic but ...

Wooh - how come after I tagged the page "hang on" it was deleted within about 10 mins of creation without any discussion?

This just seems wrong and not a good way to treat well meaning people. At least discuss it!!

You must let me know the reasons.

Will Howard 17:44, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Just to let you know that you (and I) are now officially "childish" in wondering why an Article for "Deletion" began with "Keep"!! Gotta smile at the oddities sometimes :) 20:40, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello...

Can you tell me how to automatically add a "non notable bio" warning on talk pages after you revert them? As you did on this page User talk:Redhead346. I use "twinkle" and "popups" and I have a list of various warnings I can add to talk pages from swatches in my top right corner but adding a warning for non-notable bio isn't there. Can you tell me how you did it? Thanks.Wikidudeman (talk) 19:09, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Popups issue

I see you have run into the popups issue where it leaves the $ edit summary. Apparently it's a bug with some recent changes to popups. If you want to fix it, you can change back to the last version of popups - see User talk:Lupin#Getting "revision $1 dated $2 by $3". --Kubigula (talk) 03:05, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Oops, didn't make the connection that when a template is sprotected, it also needs a noinclude. (I guess all pages that use the template would be sprotected otherwise.) Thanks for catching that, and I've added noinclude to the other two templates that UPN Vandal was hitting which I sprotected. --Butseriouslyfolks 00:04, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Ontario?

Back on Feb. 14, you blocked me from editing Wikipedia because you said I had vandalised the page "Ontario". 2 responses:

First off, until I went to the Ontario page today, I don't believe I have ever even /been/ on that page, much less edited it.

Secondly, I have no idea what I could possibly have done that would qualify as vandalism on any page, Ontario or otherwise. I rarely even edit pages. I don't know if this is possible (I'm not the most computer-literate person), but I'm wondering if someone didn't hack into my computer and use my IP address.

Because Wikipedia defines vandalism as "any addition, removal, or change of content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia," I believe it is unfair to accuse me of vandalism. I didn't "add, remove, or change content" on the page in question, and even if I had, it wouldn't have compromised the integrity of Wikipedia, and even if it had compromised the integrity, I wouldn't have done that intentionally.

Because of this, I'm requesting that I be unblocked.

A final request: since I'm not very good with computers, I don't know how to search for the alleged vandalism on the older versions of the "Ontario" page; could you provide me with a link so I could see what was done? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.243.212.139 (talk) 15:12, 4 April 2007 (UTC).

If you've been blocked, you need to place the {{unblock}} tag on your talk page to contest it. In any case, I don't see any information in your block log indicating that you have been blocked in the first place (and even if there was, I cannot unblock other users since I am not an admin.) --Sigma 7 18:08, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

autobio templates

Hello. Because of an edit conflict with you a second ago, I was made aware of the template {{uw-autobiography}}. I was mostly using {{userfywarning}} and I think it's a much more appropriate template for new users who are often making the mistake in good faith and not because of a bloated ego. Feel free to use either but I think both templates can have value in different situations. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 03:54, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Asad Ahmad revert

Regarding your revert on Asad Ahmad. I've re-reverted it to the ugly version, and made an effort to clean up the formatting a bit. When working with biographies, it's really important that we don't let vandals insert hoaxes into the articles. When reverting to a revision that makes an accusation against a living person, you should try and do a quick web search to determine the veracity of the claim. It's better that we have badly formatted text on living biographies than the unfounded personal accusations that we've seen blow up into media storms so often in the past. It's not enough to just put a {{cn}} tag on it. Mark Chovain 01:50, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Sigma 7. I've been proofreading Persian literature, and I'm almost done. I'd add my signature to the usual LoCE box on the Talk page, but I don't see one. League of Copyeditors roll call

Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there.
The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors.

Regarding Coup d'État de Yanaon

Hi Friend, It was me who created that article. i was native of Yanaon. Even my father was a french national ofcourse not now. What i have wrote was the information i gathered from very old people of yanaon. Regarding death of Monsieur Samatam, the mystery was whether his death was preplaned (assasination) or not. But he was deinitely shot by Monsieur Maddimchetty initially. But it was declared that indian military police killed him. Its very interesting story even i am trying to investigate more about it. You can view my articles and give me reply. Thanks for editing it. In order to maintain neutrality i kept them as questions rather than writingin one-sided manner. Thompson Sound(s)

Though both are only stubs as yet, ultimately they are different topics; Thompson Sound, the settlement, is of "settler history" era and will have a particular social/locational history; Thompson Sound, the sound, is much larger and has an ethnograaphic history and ecological/geological/oceanographic context. It's the same logic as to why Campbell River, British Columbia (the city) is a different article from Campbell River (Vancouver Island) (the river), though that case is much more clear-cut and far less obscure. Ditto Rivers Inlet and Rivers Inlet, British Columbia (not yet made) (and Rivers Inlet people) and many other similar examples.Skookum1 (talk) 19:19, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

"copy paste"

I appreciate that you are quality-checking my articles. Could you explain to me what you mean by "copy paste?" It is true that I copy pasted this material from my class notes. Is that bad?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Agradman (talkcontribs) 14:54, 16 May 2009

The article appeared to have been copied from another source, since it appeared to have been a style of writing used within some textbook exercise sections. You are allowed copying your own material onto the wiki without issue, although there is likely to be erronous tagging in some writing styles. --Sigma 7 (talk) 19:01, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
I see. When you say "a style of writing used within some textbook exercise sections," I assume you mean the way I broke it up into "facts," "issue," "holding" etc. That's the conventional way that law students are taught to organize cases ... you can see it for example at Eisner v. Macomber (facts, issue, decision).
I am going to remove the "copy paste" tagline from the top of these articles. I hope you don't perceive it as an edit-war; if you feel they ought to remain, I won't argue over it. Agradman (talk) 19:11, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Repeat offender? (at IP address?)

I noticed at User_talk:74.223.130.162 that someone at this IP address has previously been warned (by you).

The "repeat offense" (IMHO) that occurred recently, was a change to the article Stopzilla itself (vs. the talk page). (but other than that, it was the same article -- which suggests to me, the "possibility" that there could be some kind of conflict of interest).

Should an additional warning be placed at User_talk:74.223.130.162 ? I have reinstated the material (a new section of the article about Stopzilla) that was deleted unceremoniously by an this [same?] "IP address" editor. However, I think I might need some help or advice from you (or from someone) if the (ummmm) "deletions without explanations" continue.

Thank you. --Mike Schwartz (talk) 16:45, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

THANK YOU. I see that a second warning [dated "19:05, 26 June 2009 (UTC)"] was placed at User_talk:74.223.130.162. Maybe it was done using a template or macro of some kind (one that I might not be familiar with), but the wording strikes me as being just right, and appropriate. Hence the "check mark" ["Resolved" icon] above. --Mike Schwartz (talk) 21:34, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: Masquerade - Single (album)

Hello Sigma 7, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. User talk pages

You reverted the blanking of User talk:ILikeFruitFlies, which was blanked by the user himself. Per Wikipedia policies, user's are allowed to blank their own talk pages. "The removal of a warning is taken as evidence that the warning has been read by the user." Therefore it is not quite appropriate to revert such edits. If evidences is required for an AIV investigation, the page history is still available to show the user's problems. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:40, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:09, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Sigma 7,

Back in November, you got either an AfD or PROD notification, which was part of the template testing project's experiments. If you could go here and leave us some feedback about what you think about the new versions of the templates we tested (there are links to the templates), that would be very useful. Hand-coding

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:03, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
