Logos edit

Again, you did not create these images yourself: File:Indianalogomuseum.JPG, File:Children logo.JPG, and File:Dinologo.JPG. They are copyrighted images. You may still use them on Wikipedia, but you must attribute them to the original source. Thanks, Reywas92Talk 17:43, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

This image as well: File:1859 balloon voyage.JPG. It says you created the image yourself and is released into the publis domain, but it's copyrighted. If you continue this, I will have to report you. Thanks, Reywas92Talk 17:50, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

How do you change it to copyright? Sedna10387 (talk) 17:51, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I can do the ones you've already added. It just involves changing the description to template:Logo fur. But in the future, when you go to the upload page Wikipedia:Upload, instead of choosing Entirely my own work, click on The logo of an organization [1]. Good luck, Reywas92Talk 17:55, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you!you've helped me out a whole lot! Sedna10387 (talk) 17:56, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

No problem. Please ask if you need any more help. You're still learning the ropes of Wikipedia so you've made some mistakes, but your contributions have been very useful. Is File:1859balloon.JPG an image you actually took? I can turn it right side up so we don't have to use the copyrighted image. Reywas92Talk 18:03, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is! I went on the balloon on Tues and took pictures that day of it. That would be helpful! Sedna10387 (talk) 18:04, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done. Where around Indy do you live? I'm in Fishers and have been meaning to go up in the balloon. You may want to join our Wikiprojects, collaborations about the region, WP:INDIANA and WP:INDIANAPOLIS. If you'd like, you can also create a WP:USERPAGE to share information about yourself and list articles you're interested in. Reywas92Talk 18:13, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm from Pittsboro, Indiana. That's in Hendricks County. I would love to join. Sedna10387 (talk) 18:15, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Uploading images - some pointers edit

Hi Sedna10387, I have deleted a few of your uploads and more will be deleted for not meeting the site's image policies.. Before uploading any more I strongly suggest you acquaint yourself with these policies so that you have a more enjoyable time here. There are three options for image uploads at Wikipedia:

  • You took the image yourself (with your camera) - in this case you are largely free to upload the image under any of the free licence. Be aware though that taking an image of an artwork, magazine or other creative work may make your image a derivative work and mean that you cannot release it under a free image.
  • You found the image on a website or elsewhere that has a free licence (GFDL, creative commons etc.) - in this case as long as you attribute the source and select the same licence that they have used there is usually no issue
  • All other images are non-free and must meet the non-free content guidline and the 10 non-free content criteria. The most fundamental of these is that we do not host a non-free image if it is possible to obtain or create a free replacement. For living people and existing buildings/objects it is almost always possible to create such an image.

Please drop me a note if any of this is unclear. Happy editing - Peripitus (Talk) 07:15, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ok - I've deleted many and left a few images. Those that I've left are onse that seem to meet the non-free guidline or those that were taken with a "Canon PowerShot A540" which I assume is your camera - Peripitus (Talk) 07:46, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Editing suggestions edit

Hello, and thanks for your edits on the Conner Prairie article. I've noticed that you are making a lot of small edits, and had a few ideas that you might find helpful:

  • Before you save an edit, use the "Show preview" button to make sure the edit does what you intend. (See Help:Show preview)
  • Leave an edit summary describing/explaining each edit. This shows when you view an article history and when you look at changes on your watchlist. (See Help:Edit summary)
  • When applicable, use the "minor edit" checkbox to mark edits as minor. (See: Help:Minor edit)

If you try these, you might find that you can accomplish just as much in fewer edits, and you'll have an easier time reviewing your past changes. If you have any questions or need any help with editing Wikipedia, just drop me a line on my talk page. Cheers! cmadler (talk) 15:29, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Communicating with other contributors edit

While it's always a challenge when people want to delete your stuff, you need to step back, gain some perspective, and not take criticism personally, as you've done here, here and here. With respect to your articles and images, the fact that some of them may not have satisfied inclusion guidelines does not mean that you are not a valuable contributor. Some of Wikipedia's most prominent contributors have had articles and images deleted or nominated for deletion (even Jimmy Wales). That's the way it goes.

It is, though, a bit of a problem that you aren't talking with people who come to you about issues, but have instead done things like removing AfD tags or tags from images explaining that they will be deleted if not corrected. That's not the way things are done on Wikipedia. You need to discuss these things calmly with other contributors, without accusing them of negativity, but recognizing that they probably have the best interests of the project in mind. If somebody tags an image with a problem and you don't understand how it can be fixed, ask the person who tagged the image. If you know it can't be fixed, you may have to just accept that Wikipedia can't use it. Images and other media especially have to conform to the copyright laws of the United States. If they don't, we can get in legal trouble. Lots of websites out there don't care. Some of them are not in the United States. Some of them are, but figure nobody will notice or mind. Wikipedia does care.

As far as deletion debates are concerned, these are conversations. You can't remove other people's comments and you can't pretend to be two different people, commenting under your registered name and while logged out (like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Junken Building (Pittsboro Pizzeria); we know this is you. This comment makes that obvious). These kinds of things can get you blocked from Wikipedia altogether, which I'm sure nobody wants to happen. We'd much rather have you join in the community, talking when needed and adding content within policies and guidelines.

You want to avoid becoming a disruptive editor. Even if you make some good contributions, you can be a disruptive editor if you "Reject community input". You don't have to agree with everybody, but you do need to be prepared to discuss things with others and to recognize when what you are doing doesn't conform to community standards.

There's loads of ways to get help if you're confused by something or don't know how something is done. We have a general help desk. We have a help desk just for less-experienced users. You can ask a question on your own userpage and, if you put {{helpme}} (curly brackets and all) next to it, a volunteer will come to answer. You can ask somebody to agree to answer all your questions and help you out when you need it through the "adoption" program. We try to be friendly and make things as easy as we can because we know there's a lot to learn about contributing to the project. But you do have to work with us. :)

I'll be watching your page for a time. If you have any questions, please let me know. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:40, 9 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thanks for your note. The reason that the logos were removed is because they were not being used in a way that is allowed by Wikipedia's rules. If you look in the history, you can see the note left in the edit summary by User:Black Kite when he removed them: "fix a lot of non-free problems per WP:NFCC and WP:NFLISTS." Those links can help explain the problem, but, basically, if the images are not free (and logos aren't), you can't use them decoratively in a list article. If these businesses met the notability guideline at WP:ORG, their logos could be used in articles specifically about them, but most individual businesses are not going to meet that notability guideline, so I think this is one of those things that probably can't be fixed. I do have to note that it is very likely that the article Pittsboro, Indiana Businesses and Buildings is going to be deleted after the AfD closes (they usually run for 5 days). --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:40, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (File:Superbowl44.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Superbowl44.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Xenon54 / talk / 00:33, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Also, please note that non-free images cannot be used outside the article space (NFCC 9). This applies not only to the Super Bowl logo but also the Colts logo at the bottom of your userpage. Xenon54 / talk / 00:37, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Non-free images and your userpage edit

You can't use non-free images on your userpage. This is per WP:NFCC #9. I've once again removed the Colts logo from your userpage. Please stop adding it. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 14:14, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Articles for deletion nomination of Mayberry Cafe edit

I have nominated Mayberry Cafe, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mayberry Cafe. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Rklawton (talk) 01:22, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Frank and marys catfish.JPG edit

A tag has been placed on File:Frank and marys catfish.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Tim1357 talk 02:01, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Stubs edit

Please do not create stubs for school districts (Dare County Schools Hyde County Schools). This is inappropriate as they only contain links to school articles (if even that). What we do instead is place this information in its own section within the relevant county (or city) article. Districts themselves rarely rate their own articles - and only then as a result of some national-level controversy. Rklawton (talk) 02:33, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:32, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Connection Pointe Christian Church of Brownsburg edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Connection Pointe Christian Church of Brownsburg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
