Some links of interest: Wikipedia:WikiProject Classroom coordination, Wikipedia:School and university projects. When shall we create a subpage for the course? We could ask all the students to sign themselves in on it so that we know the names of their accounts. Your purpose here edit

Hello Sbabones, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your class project has come to the attention of a few editors here, and some of them are concerned that it may not be compatible with the purposes of Wikipedia. Could you clarify exactly what the project is, so that concerns can be put to rest? Sarcasticidealist (talk) 17:17, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Christopher Chase-Dunn edit

You seem to be afraid that this article is in danger of being deleted in short order. Actually, despite the appearance of three warning messages on the first draft, it's quite likely to be safe, so I wouldn't worry. Being as how you are an academic, I'm sure your quite aware of the need of proper references to reliable sources, with footnoting and all that. Wikipedia requires much the same thing so that its articles can be trusted. It's quite the struggle — I spend much time on what we call new-page patrol, where all manner of dreck and even absolute gibberish comes seeping through and must be dealt with. The occasional article that is good right off the bat comes through, with more falling short of that at first but still worthy candidates for inclusion. Your article about Chase-Dunn falls in the last category. All that is needed are the references — you're best to supply those, since you're much more familiar with the subject — and others can take care of the other details such as formatting, style and those other little things peculiar to Wikipedia.

In short, don't worry. A cursory Google search turns up numerous ghits on Chase-Dunn, so notability is not in question. And there's no time constraints to speak of. Most of all, if you have questions or need help, just ask. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 08:21, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello Sbabones! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 937 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Fake article edit

As you can see, we have had some fun with your user page. The sending to MfD was an angry reaction on my part because I thought it was you that had reverted the page. But as it stands it is undoubtedly a WP:FAKEARTICLE - absolutely no mention of Wikipedia!. Writing about oneself in the third person is horribly stilted. As a matter of urgency will you please re-word in the first person and tell us what you are doing on Wikipedia instead of just giving us a CV. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 00:32, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Immediately after writing the above I noticed that you had had the page in an acceptable state in the past so I have reverted to that. Surely Josve05a (talk · contribs) will not try to object to the state at this moment since it is a copy of this edit by you. By all means update this page to tell us that you have gone down under and what you are currently getting your students to do. But please retain the first person style. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 00:46, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Nothing forbids a user from talking in third person. It is however a despicable thing to edit another users userpage, imo. I urge you to take a step back and take a breather and let the page be, since it has been like that since 2012. You can ask him to change it, but you should not change it for him. One does not need to mention Wikipedia in their userpage, it is there to present oneself to the community however they please (kinda). (tJosve05a (c) 01:00, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Let me reiterate, I suggest you leave this be, or follow the normal Wikipedia:Dispute resolution procedures, since this is bordering on harrasment imo.
  1. Leaving salty (sub-par) responses to message your your user talk page about a deletion of another users draft page.
  2. Removing content from userpage and leaving note on userpage (almost userpage vandalism)
  3. Nominating it for deletion.
  4. Reverting userpage that has had the same content since 2012 to an old version.
Continue down this path, and we'll all see where we end up. (tJosve05a (c) 01:11, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

This is getting ridiculous. I hope that Salvatore has now got a clear idea of what I find acceptable on a user page. I will stand back for a week and hope that Salvatore will create a page acceptable to me. If not, I shall seek other opinions. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 01:32, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please do seek a third opinion. You state that we should wait for him to change to meet your satisfaction...well good thing that you aren't "In charge", otherwise that would have been extortion and harrasment. (tJosve05a (c) 01:37, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
(@RHaworth: Just know I can also find a 3o by "my cabal" to support my side. Best thing would be to just leave it be and let it evolve naturally...) (tJosve05a (c) 01:42, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
@RHaworth and Josve05a: This is unacceptable behavior from the both of you. Edit warring over a user page that contains a small autobiographical blurb has got to be one of the lamest things I've ever seen on the project. RHaworth, if you believe the user page should be deleted or significantly altered, nominate it for discussion at WP:MFD. This is certainly not such a blatant violation of any guideline to justify repeated removals. WP:UPYES specifically allows "limited autobiographical content". Josve05a, a threat to recruit involved editors to sway a discussion is contrary to WP:CANVASS, and your side of the edit-warring is no better. None of this is worth driving off a professor who's incorporating Wikipedia into the classroom, and you're both contributing to that possibility. If this disruption continues from either side, I will have to block one or both of you. ~ Rob13Talk 02:23, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
To clarify the "threat to recruit involved editors to sway a discussion", I was merly respondering the same tone that I would also ask for another opinion, since in my eyes it read as though he would canvass for his point. I was just replying "if you do so, and I'll do the same, so it won't matter." (tJosve05a (c) 03:02, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

What the hell is going on here? Leave that user's userpage alone. Also, you realize this person alread has an article (Salvatore Babones)? I guess he just never bothered to link it on his user page, but he is a notable academic. Here you are helping to create another academic, who tried to contribute to Wikipedia, and now it is a good chance he will tell stories how he was rudely treated by some anonymous volunteers. PS. Salvatore, let me apologize on behalf of the community for this weird incident, please realize most of us do appreciate your contributions, and this is all just a technical misunderstanding about issues which are not at all your fault. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:34, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

÷== Response == Thank you everyone for your interest, comments, and support. I hope we can now let this issue drop. I can't imagine that anyone could object to my new user page. If it is inappropriate to link to my (external) website, please let me know and I'll delete the link (myself). Thanks all -- Salvatore

I can't imagine anyone here objecting to that, but let me echo Piotr: The other version was fine, too, and none of this mess was your fault. Thanks for sticking with us despite these occasional bumps in the road. WhatamIdoing (talk) 04:33, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I think your userspage was fine, and the new one is fine too. I'd encourage you to also link to Salvatore Babones :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:53, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Piotr, that's very kind of you to suggest, but it would seem somewhat presumptuous! S.

Proposed deletion of File:Photo of Salvatore Babones-4.jpg edit

The file File:Photo of Salvatore Babones-4.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 22 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
