License tagging for Image:3699493403.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:3699493403.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Rebecca Benally edit

Hey, nice work on creating a good-looking article in a short time with Rebecca Benally. I'm a bit of an inclusionist so I don't want to AfD it on a notability basis, but I'm guessing someone else will unless you put some cites/refs in there to assert her notability. A solid external link or two would really shore it up, particularly in relation to the Exxon-Mobil thing or the or the Navajo Board of Education thing. CredoFromStart talk 18:55, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I can drop you some tips. For major clarification on this stuff, check out the Image Use Policy page, but here's a couple things I notice from the images you've uploaded so far
  • If you took these pictures yourself, you're pretty much in the clear. Just make sure when you upload them you say that you took them, and then on the Licensing field, make sure you select one of the Own Work Free licenses on the drop down (the preferred one is GFDL self-made)
  • Some of them look like they might be yearbook or website pictures; these are a lot trickier. If the pictures were taken by a government agency, they're in the public domain (select the Work of a U.S. government agency license). If you got them off Flickr or something similar and they're licensed under CC (completely free or completely free w/attribution) then you're okay as well. If they're covered by a private entity you'll need that entity to release them as GFDL or something similar.
  • The least-preferred option is to license them under fair use. Based on the pictures you've got, I think fair use is probably not going to work in your case, mostly because we generally don't accept fair use "simply to show what a person looks like". Check out non-free content for more info. A couple things to remember, tho: Fair user can't be used on pages in userspace (so they can only go in articles, not on your userpage), and orphaned fair use (images that aren't used anywhere) are usually deleted.
Good luck with this! Images are one of the more controversial and hard to understand things about WP, but they certainly add a lot to the encyclopedia.
One minor other tip - when you leave messages on talk pages (either your own, someone else's, or the talk page for an article), sign it with four tildes ( ~~~~ ). Then people can find you quickly and we know who's doing the work (and how long it's been)! Welcome, and good luck! CredoFromStart talk 14:16, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Commercial use of Image:Rbenally.jpg edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Rbenally.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Rbenally.jpg is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Rbenally.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 20:41, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Rbenally.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Rbenally.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:03, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Duplicate Image:Davis and Joe Shirley.jpg edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Davis and Joe Shirley.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. License tagging for Image:Davis.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Davis.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rebecca Benally edit

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Rebecca Benally, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Proposed deletion of Literacy Is Empowering Project edit

The article Literacy Is Empowering Project has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable book drive. After reading the two external links and searching for more info online, I cannot find enough evidence that this meets our general notability guideline.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
