Speedy deletion of "Rolls Royce Male Voice Choir" edit

A page you created, Rolls Royce Male Voice Choir, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a band or other musical group, but it does not indicate how they are important or significant, and thus why they should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for musical groups in particular.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Thank you. Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 00:58, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Rolls Royce Male Voice Choir edit

A tag has been placed on Rolls Royce Male Voice Choir requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. RR protect their company identity carefully. They have every right, they employ many people and have been a driving force in engineering innovation for many years. Their engines were, would you believe, highly instrumental in protecting the free world from tyranny and destruction during WW2. I still feel, however, that the RR choir... and you see how nervous I am here of using the full name with or without hyphon, deserve a mention on Wikipedia. The choir works hard to raise money for charity and, in doing so, promotes the excellence of ... that company. They are, for example, performing at Syon in late May 2010 at a "Syon in the war" type event. Giving their all, their skill, practice, talent, devotion and abilities for a meal and a free tour of the hall. I think it important that the choir... up to 30 commuted individuals and their extended families ... should be able to see the fruits of their labours here. I have had to change the MySpace entry to "RR Male Voice Choir" because of pressure. Any thoughts on this, guys and gals?

Each Wikipedia editor has his own user talk page (for you, it's this page), so you can write there. For example, my talk page is User talk:Svick. Other option (that may not be available for all users) is to e-mail them. To do that, go to the user's user page and click on “E-mail this user” in the left menu. Thanks for joining the project. Your photos look really good quality and some of them would be excellent if used in articles on here. Any local areas or church buildings or articles you know about could be tagged using {{WikiProject Nottinghamshire}} template.KlickingKarl (talk) 13:36, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

DRI photo edit

A great image, Russ! However, I have moved it further down and will now get on my hobby-horse and explain why.

I do encourage all editors to look at context' before they insert anything at all, be it a picture, a caption or information. Insertions that are good quality, (and even referenced) but are inappropriately paced, can be really destructive to an article as a whole because they introduce a red-herring, or even disrupt the flow of an idea to the extent of turning a meaningful paragraph into gibberish. The problem is that yer average watcher won't delete them and it is left to the person who actually reads the whole article from time to time to make sure that no-one has jammed the times of the Tuesday organ recital in between the swell and the great, or that the painter's vegetarianism hasn't suddenly made an appearance between Ss. Andrew and James at the Last Supper. It happens all the time!

I realise that many of the galleries that appear in wiki are of a kind that is "generally illustrative" rather than pointed and highly informative. However, that isn't the case in any article that I have a major hand in. All those pics were selected and captioned to indicate their relationship to the various historical styles through which modern art has moved, eg Expressionism, or the technical advances made in the medium itself eg. lamination and slab glass. While the context was indeed modern, the picture did not sit well after the computerised Gerard Richter window at Cologne Cathedral.

However, immediately below that section was an empty spot in a gallery about the continuation and adaptation of ancient methods in the modern age. Your window was just perfect in that gallery. What I need to know now is the name of the studio that produced it. You may find it written in a corner of the window. Otherwise, there will undoubtedly be a record of the commission in the DRI's archives.

Amandajm (talk) 04:02, 10 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that Amanda. I will revisit the window and seek out that information. I did not see any writing on the window, and it has been re-framed for removal from its original site, but I am sure I can find the studio and designers somehow. Regards, Russ

Llanfachreth edit

Hi Rpriv2000, may i call you Russ? I have just added a note to the talk pages of Llanfachreth and Dolgellau, indicating that material from the latter was copied to the former when it was created. I note that you began the article on Llanfachreth and it was in your edits that it was copied. In itself, i hasten to add, copying between article on Wikipedia is not necessarily a problem, except that attribution must be given; i have now done that. I'm really just dropping you a note for two purposes: Did you copy from any other source i ought to give attribution to, and are there any other articles that you have copied to? I've had a brief look at your contributions, and it looks to me as though you mostly add your photos, rather than text; that's great, i wish i had the knack. If you have any questions, please ask, or if there are other articles i should check and tag let me know. Cheers, LindsayHello 13:53, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello Lindsay. No other articles involved as far as I know. Most info from my copy of the Mary Corbett Harris book. Regards, Russ Hamer 19:27, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

Problem with your custom signature edit

You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. 19:04, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
